Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Unbelievable and naive.

There was hardly any other way to describe the situation that Ruby, Weiss, and Yang find themselves in.

Unbelievable because of the insane level of skill that Sasuke possessed, being far superior to anything someone his age should ever be able to achieve, and the kind of life he must have lived to get this far.

How else do you describe someone capable of surviving the attack from a horde of Grimm, running that fast through the canopy of trees while carrying other people, and now fighting two alphas on his own?

Even "genius" didn't seem enough to describe Sasuke, or maybe that word was being wrongly used all this time with unworthy people.

As for "naive," that was for believing they could do anything to help someone who was so far ahead of them.

In fact, Yang was right about her assessment of him back when they fought, and even full-fledged Hunters would have problems keeping up with him, and that was ridiculous!

Uchiha Sasuke was so strong that his presence in this academy must be nothing more than a formality.

After all, some laws forbid minors from becoming Hunters, no matter how talented they may be.

Good, because no one wants to start sending child soldiers out there to fight and die against the Grimm.

So, in the end, they were left behind dealing with the lesser Grimm, so they don't get in the way of the real fight. Comprehensible, since even the three of them would hardly be enough to take down one of those two alphas.

With all of this in mind, it begs the question:

"Where the hell was a guy like him hiding all this time?!" Yang wasn't even talking to anyone in particular; this was more like complaining about not meeting him early. "Especially with how fuking hot he is?!"

The name Uchiha Sasuke should be far more well-known than Pyrrha Nikos, and that was a fact!

As for his face, it wasn't that unknown.

Now that the shock of such a revelation had worn off, Yang remembered seeing him on the internet!

The other day, there was an incident in one of Ruby's favorite Hunter Shops, a place where they make good weapons and clothes. There, they were promoting the shop with photos of one of their customers, and that was Sasuke!

Yang would never forget someone that hot!

So it wasn't for nothing that such a commotion happened in Vale when Sasuke didn't show up, to the point of becoming a police case.

With this much, you could understand why he was hiding his face, and the princess was right: Sasuke was in for hell during his stay in Beacon, and only a girlfriend could help with that, even if just a little.

But who was going to fill that role? The mere thought both scared and excited Yang.

"Your crude choice of words aside, I have to agree." Weiss lowered her Myrtenaster after putting down another Grimm, her blue eyes focused on Sasuke's fight. "How is he?"

Maybe it wasn't for nothing that his hometown was called Konohagakure no Sato, the Village Hidden in the Leaves. That, and now Weiss could understand the reason why Yang mocked her the day before, when she said that Pyrrha was the greatest genius of their generation.

In fact, there's a chance that Sasuke was even stronger than her sister, and Winter was both a Lieutenant and a Specialist of the Atlas army!

"There's always someone stronger."

It seems there was truth to this old saying, and the prospect of a relationship with a boy this amazing brought a smile to her face.

Now, Weiss was praying for Sasuke to be on her team so that they could study and train together!

"Who cares?!" Ruby was smiling so much that her face hurt! "Did you see how he blinded that Death Stalker?!"

Sasuke jumped high in the air and, while upside down, he threw a bunch of Kunai randomly, almost like he was missing the target, but only until they collided in the air and redirected at impossible angles to hit every eye of that thing with deadly precision!

With those wires from before, he was just like a true Ninja!

Honestly, that had to be the coolest thing in the world! So, despite Ruby being unable to show her beloved Crescent Rose in action to Sasuke, she was still happy to see his weapons!

Now, she could hardly wait to take a good look at that sword!

"Yes, and the mere fact that he can do something like that without the dynamic vision of his Sharingan is what raises the question," Weiss explained to this overly excited girl who didn't seem to hold a grudge for her confession from earlier. "And besides, don't you wanna know more about him?"

Because she did, and Weiss wanted to know everything about this boy who moved her heart and made her do the unthinkable.

"O-of course I do!" Ruby had questions about Sasuke from the moment she met him that night in Vale! "I just think there's a better time to wonder about that!"

And this wasn't it, especially when Sasuke was risking his life fighting two alphas! Well, more like one now, since the Death Stalker was blind and just attacking random trees.

Even so, they have to help him and provide support from a distance by defeating the lesser Grimm!

Unfortunately, anything more than this, and they would just get in his way...

I have to get stronger.

That was a line of thought that only gained strength since her fight with that pervert, Roman something, and Ruby had just the perfect teacher in mind.

Maybe, that way, they would get closer, too!

"I suppose you are right," Weiss did not argue, even if her heart was still restless about this whole thing. "Those doubts can wait until after the initiation is over."

They would have plenty of time to talk then.

For now, they had to focus on the task at hand and make sure nothing got in the way of Sasuke's fight.

As for Yang, she didn't make any comment as she normally would. The situation was just that crazy, and there was too much at stake to be making jokes.

One thing she was sure of, though: This was just the beginning of what Sasuke was capable of!

-----

Not very far from there, Sasuke was doing his best while fighting these annoying things... and trying to keep his cool so he didn't make the mistake of leveling this entire forest.

I already knew this, but without Chakra, even the greatest Shinobi becomes just a shadow of his former self. Otherwise, his sword would have pierced the armor of this overgrown scorpion, and all that would have been needed to kill the Nevermore was a mere Kunai imbued with lightning, so this joke of a fight would be over in the blink of an eye. Even so, the girls are unable to keep up with me...

That was disappointing and worrying on so many levels.

Back when he fought Yang, it seems like he could have defeated her without using a single drop of Chakra, but he didn't give the possibility any thought. At the time, his mind was completely focused on testing her and understanding the mechanics behind the power that the people of this world use.

Now, such a realization makes Sasuke question whether anyone on this planet can truly help him in the fight against Kaguya, or if he was just dragging people to an early grave.

If it were before, he wouldn't care about any of this. Now, however, the mere thought of putting the lives of the innocent at risk bothered him deeply.

But not trying to prepare them could be even worse. Sasuke looked back to where Weiss, Ruby, and Yang were fighting to help him, even if just a little. At least, in the worst-case scenario, this world would have one last line of defence.

Because, make no mistake: if Kaguya didn't know about the population of this world, she would find out sooner or later. And when she does, Remnant would suffer the same fate as the Elemental Nations.

So if they are willing to learn, I am willing to teach, Sasuke concluded, deciding to put these thoughts aside for the time being and focus on the task at hand. For now, let's put an end to this.

While the girls are dealing with the lesser Grimm, he needs to take down these two annoying things.

The Death Stalker was blind, and since Sasuke was fighting with his emotions in check, this thing couldn't even sense him, but it could sense the girls. Every time this thing threatens to go after them, Sasuke lets out just enough killing intent to keep it around.

As for the Nevermore, this Grimm was the really annoying one that even managed to put a goal in Sasuke's mind: learning to fly.

Obito, Madara, Kaguya, and even Naruto knew how to fly, so it was only natural that he should be able to do it, too.

Of course, Sasuke can fly, but not without his Susano'o, and that was a problem and a limitation that he had to overcome. After all, not only was his Susano'o the size of a mountain and an easy target, but it took a massive amount of Chakra to manifest.

So you could say that his current flying method was..."inefficient," very similar to how the Curse Mark used to be.

Now, to take this thing down. Sasuke focused on the Nevermore and its ability to rain down feathers endlessly from a distance. Just like it was with Deidara, this thing will not come within my range.

As always, that was the annoying part of fighting ranged opponents, especially when you couldn't reach them.

In that case. Sasuke looked around to see what he could use and had a rather unusual idea, almost to Naruto levels, but one that should work. I just have to go and meet this thing up there.

And that's exactly what he intends to do after using his wires to connect the top of a tree to the tail of that raging Death Stalker.

With the strength of this overgrown scorpion, a little killing intent as bait, and in no time, Sasuke had a makeshift catapult ready to go.

Yeah, he would be the first to admit it: this one was far from being his best idea yet.

So much so that Yang, the most reckless girl he had ever met, was acting up and yelling for him not to do it.

That annoyed Sasuke a little.

If they really liked him, shouldn't they have some faith in what he does?

Or perhaps it was exactly because they liked him that made them this overprotective.

Be that as it may, Sasuke ignored their pleas and snapped the wire to be sent flying towards the Nevermore without a single care in the world.

While he could appreciate the concert, it's not like he was going to die or anything.

All in all, it worked like a charm, and what followed was like a situation similar to when he fought the Eight-Tails. The Nevermore sensed the danger and rained more feathers in his direction, forcing Sasuke to maneuver in the air to avoid this attack, and he did so without his Sharingan or any effort.

After all, this opponent was infinitely inferior when compared to a perfected Jinchuuriki.

A second later, Sasuke was cutting through the neck of this thing, but not deep enough to decapitate it in one go, but it was okay. Using the wire that he just attached to one of the wings of the Nevermore, Sasuke pulled himself back down, spinning like crazy to gain strength with every rotation and finish the job with a clean cut.

Just like that, an alpha lost its head and fell from the sky as its giant body started to dissipate.

"One more to go." Sasuke kept his eye on the Death Stalker that was moving to go after the girls and smiled as he let his killing intent surge again, but much more intensely than before because of the distance. "Where do you think you are going? It's your turn now!"

As expected, the Grimm could not resist this feast, not when so much negative was falling straight into its pincers!

The Death Stalker even got up, as tall as it could, trying to reach for Sasuke, but without being able to see, it couldn't do more than wait for his arrival while preparing to attack with its tail.

But before that, let's do something about that protection of yours. Sasuke made a hand seal and detonated his last paper bomb, carefully placed in one of the Kunai that was blinding this thing to engulf the whole area in a small explosion. "Try and stop my sword now!"

Just like that and without hesitation, he dived headfirst into the unknown to put an end to this!

------

"That bastard is out of his mind!" Yang had red eyes and fire in her hair as she punched a Ursa so hard that it was sent flying! "I know I'm kind of crazy, but not that crazy!"

After all, she never launched herself out of a tree like that, even if it was kind of cool in a cartoonish way, or blindly jumped into a freaking explosion with a Death Stalker inside!

It doesn't matter how strong you are; that was suicidal behavior!

"Wh-why would he do that?!" Ruby lost her smile and all of her excitement, fear creeping into her heart as she got distracted and almost bitten by one of the many Beowolf that surrounded her. "Falling headfirst from that height into the ground!"

There's a reason for landing strategy being a thing, after all!

Even with Aura, there was no way he would be fine! And if Sasuke was somehow okay, the Death Stalker was in there, too!

They need to finish getting rid of the Grimm and check on him right now!

And that's exactly what Weiss did, as she wasted no time talking. Using her Semblance, Weiss pierced through everything in her path as she ran towards that cloud of smoke and channeled Wind Dust into her Myrtenaster to clear the area, all in one go.

When she did, her heart breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness," Weiss said, a smile forming on her face as she touched her lips and admired the scene before her. "It seems there was no need to worry about you."

And her reaction wasn't for nothing as Sasuke stood victorious over the Death Stalker's body and was surrounded by the feathers from the fallen Nevermore.

Given the way he looked, this whole situation resulted in an image worthy of a portrait, and the blond menace agreed with her as the first thing she did after joining Weiss was taking pictures of Sasuke with her scroll.

"Don't worry," Yang said as she looked over this treasure that she had just obtained. "I'll send it to you later."

To Ruby, too, just to see her little sister's reaction~.

They may be rivals now, but there was no reason to be a little bitch about it.

"I...thank you?" Weiss didn't know what else to say, but she appreciated the goodwill before losing her smile, crossing her arms, and turning to face Sasuke. "Now, what do you have to say for yourself?"

As a potential girlfriend, she felt like it was her duty to scold this boy after doing something so dangerous and reckless.

Wow, the guts on this girl. Yang was starting to like Weiss's boldness, even if she was kind of intimidating. It seems like there's another Goodwitch in the making here.

Hard to say if that was a good thing or not, but it was still something amusing to see.

Not this again. Sasuke's eye twitched just thinking about being scolded a second time and by a girl his age. Even so...she reminds me of my mom.

Especially with that gentle smile born out of relief for his well-being that could switch into something dangerous in less than a heartbeat out of love.

Or maybe I'm overthinking, and it's just a woman thing. Sasuke was the one to have an amused smile as he retrieved his sword and placed it back in its sheath. "I do say that I was never in danger, so there's no need for tears."

That confused Weiss and Yang, as none of them were crying, but there was one more girl in the area who wore her heart on her sleeve.

"B-but what you did was dangerous," Ruby sniffled as she tried to keep it together and not show this weak side of her again. "Even if you were really cool just now."

Which was rich coming from her, since she would have done the same given the chance. But, somehow, the mere idea of Sasuke getting hurt cut deep into her little heart.

All in all, it just went to show how much Ruby liked him, and such a realization made her want to hide in her red hood.

Sasuke opened his mouth, but couldn't say anything.

It will never cease to amaze him just how much these girls care for a stranger like him, and the fact that all of this started before they saw his face or learned about his strength.

Well, it seems like I found what I was looking for. Sasuke moved and almost instantly appeared before Ruby to stroke her hair. "Once again, I'll tell you to dry your tears and raise your head, Ruby Rose, for this is not the posture of a woman who wants to be strong."

And that was exactly what he intended to make this girl be, and not just her.

Yang and Weiss, too, and when Sasuke was done with their training, there would be nothing in this world that could be considered a threat to them, and that was a promise.
