Lilith's hand touched Valeric's face, and so, she felt that she had established a direct connection with his soul.
She wondered what she could do now with her new powers, but she just threw those thoughts aside and concentrated on her task.
She was here for destruction, not creation or enlightenment.
Crack!
Her heavenly essence crept into his soul, and she felt something shatter.
Even she, as the Calamity of Souls, couldn't help but shiver at the thought of someone having such close contact with her most precious possession—her soul, her very own self.
It was violating in a completely horrifying way.
She felt the presence of what was left of his soul disperse, and heavenly essence was spread through the area.
Valeric was as dead as anyone could be.
His sword fell on the ground, and his white blouse was soaked in his blood. His eyes were closed, and his expression was surprisingly peaceful.
Lilith looked at his kneeling corpse silently for a few moments.
She thought about mutilating his dead body, so as not to leave anything recognizable to be buried or taken to a funeral—something that she regularly did with her enemies—but she decided against it.
True, he had been a crazy lunatic who tried to sacrifice her to become a Calamity, but she had to admit that she felt respect for him.
He had been powerful, much more than she initially estimated.
And also, she enjoyed the fight...
So, he would keep his body intact, for now. That's the least bit of dignity she could give him.
... Well, if some beast came to feast on him, it wasn't her problem. She's not going to bury the reptile, he should be honored that she even thought of him.
She nodded to herself, agreeing with whatever bullshit that she had in mind.
[Oh, oh my... My little sister turned into a deranged maniac in my absence, how sad... Well, you were always kinda like this, to be honest.]
At that voice in her mind, Lilith's long ear twitched, and a dissatisfied expression appeared in her face. Though her heart was beating faster...
[Hmph! Who you call a deranged maniac, you debaucherous demon?!]
The voice merely laughed:
[Lily, is there a sane person who would gamble on creating a spell in the middle of a fight? And a Category 1 Spell, nevertheless.]
Lilith's eye twitched, and she swallowed an annoyed groan down her throat.
[Yeah, whatever the fuck you say.]
The voice snickered:
[Lily, you can just speak aloud, no one is here. You look like you're having an argument with yourself... Which isn't really a great indicator of mental stability. It pains me to see my sister like this...]
She stomped her feet on the ground.
"Oh, is that so? Then what kind of brother doesn't want to face his sister after so long?! Hmph!"
"... Who said that I didn't want to?"
Lilith froze, and the tantrum that she didn't put much effort into came to a stop. The spear that she held in her hand fell on the ground.
She turned around.
Although she was expecting what she saw, she was still shocked, eyes wide with disbelief.
There, standing, was a young man who looked in his early twenties.
He was tall, taller than most men you can see every day.
He wore a long, white robe with multiple layers. It reached his feet, and it had wide sleeves.
His red lips parted in a stupid grin to reveal white teeth that almost blinded her.
His long straight white hair was tied in a ponytail and fell back, some of the strands were messily covering his face.
He had fair skin, and a single mole under his demonic sharp red eyes gave him a distinctive charm.
The man spread his arms wide.
"What? You're not going to hug me?"
He teased with a voice that would've made people kill just to hear it again.
Lilith just stood there, completely shocked to see him there. She almost seemed to be passing on his invitation...
Whoosh!
But then, she threw herself on him, her face buried in his chest and her arms hugging him firmly.
The man, like Lilith a moment ago, was taken aback. His hands were still spread, not yet recuperating from her gesture.
He obviously didn't expect her to actually follow up on his teasing.
However, he smiled warmly, then hugged her back.
"I missed you too, Lily..."
They remained like that for multiple minutes, the soft breeze of the receding storm playing with their hair.
Sometime later, Lilith coughed and broke off the hug. She looked down at the ground, finding it interesting for whatever reason.
She rubbed one of her long ears while the other twitched. She fidgeted with her feet, as if trying to dig out a hole.
"Um, ah... It's, ah... Good to see you again, Noah. Saves me a lot of trouble..."
She hoped that her bloodied face could hide the embarrassed blush on her.
Noah's stupid grin returned.
He thought about bullying her more, but he decided to go easy on her since it had been a long time since they were separated.
"Well, no fuck Lady Obvious! Didn't you just basically try to kill yourself by fighting a Rank 2 without any spells?! Oh, how lost are you without me! Not even a thank you?!"
He changed the topic, his tone both scolding and teasing.
She looked up at him, her blush fading quickly as annoyance replaced it.
"You're the last one to talk about my actions, stupid demon! I won, that's what matters! Also, let me thank you by shoving this spear up yo–"
Noah cut her off.
"Nah, whatever. I don't care what you do. Just don't be so enthusiastic about it when you want to turn into a kebab next time."
Lilith's eye twitched.
"You fucking... What's a kebab even supposed to be?! Ugh, whatever!"
She groaned, realizing that he had been messing with her a little bit too late. When had she been so dense?
"On a serious note, how are you still alive?"
