Chapter 2 - Chapter I: Unlikely Heroes

Borthos Mountains, Northern Providence. Gusts of wind turned the mountain's snowy terrain into a wasteland. The crowd cheered, hollering for their champion to emerge victorious. Barbara charged towards her opponent, an alpha male polar bear. Tackling the bear to the ground, Barbara found the upper hand. As each blow landed, the crowd erupted louder and louder. Finally, she raised her hands up for the final blow.

"Finish it Barb!" One man shouted.

"No mercy!" Another chimed in.

Just as she swung, a sudden, blinding light consumed her and she disappeared from the battlefield.

Women shrieked and men shouted as they stormed the bear, searching for Barbara.

Arcanhelm Academy, Eastern Providence. In the ruins of the old school for those talented in the arcane arts. Wilhelm Rosen, a former student, found himself digging through his alma mater.

"Nothing." He sighed, reaching for another book.

"Hey, you hear that?" A gruff voice came from the hall.

"Yeah, I'll check it out." A raspy voice replied.

Wilhelm could feel a lump in his throat. He was trespassing on forbidden grounds. If these guards were to catch him now, his mission would be over. With no other option, he formed a small flame in each hand.

"What are you doing here?" The gruff guard demanded to know as he entered the room.

As Wilhelm went to incinerate them, he was engulfed in a sudden, blinding light and he disappeared.

"That bastard was using magic!' The gruff guard announced to his companion.

Velthar City, Southern Providence. Takan Bar, a small southern establishment for every kind of group. Patrons drank, bartenders served, and Talon Greaves ran a card table in the shadiest corner. Men gathered around the table to test their luck.

Talon was down twenty gold on the night, losing every hand. Due to his unreal losing streak, ten of the men in the bar went all in against him. The men totalled one-hundred gold in a hand against him. He dealt out the cards to the group, two queens. The men cheered, feeling the two hundred gold coming their way. Talon then flipped his hand, a king and an ace, the winning hand.

As he laughed and reached for his winnings. One of the men, an orc grabbed onto his arm.

"Not so fast, little man." He ordered.

The rest of the men scowled as they surrounded him. Talon used his free hand to throw a smoke bomb down. As the bar became filled with smoke, a bright white light consumed Talon and he disappeared.

The men practically flipped the bar upside down to find him, to no success.

Valerian capital, Valeria City, Central Providence. In a dark and grimy alleyway, Aden Horrow pinned his victim into a wall. The man was dressed in regal garbs, he was more than likely a noble.

Aden kneed the man in his fat gut, "Where is he!"

"Who?" The noble cried.

Aden slammed him into a filthy pile of garbage, right where he belonged. Grabbing a hold of his color he shouted, "The Warden! Where is the Warden!"

Aden raised his fist as the man cried out, "The Warden, he's in th-". But right before his fist could connect, a bright white consumed Aden, and he vanished.

The noble sighed in relief and collapsed in pain.

West Branch, Western Providence. Stevie looked in awe as the smoke cleared and the four adventurers appeared in front of him and his grandfather.
