Jiang Nannan walked calmly onto the stage, her face expressionless. The moment she appeared, the crowd burst into thunderous cheers — her performance on the first day had left a deep impression on everyone.
Cloudfall Academy's first contestant was a slightly chubby boy. The moment he saw Jiang Nannan was his opponent, his face twisted with fear and dread.
"The rules for the individual elimination battle are simple: when one side loses, they must immediately leave the platform. The victor can choose to continue or switch out. Each team sends seven members. The match ends when all seven members of one side are eliminated. Understood?" the referee explained.
"Understood!" Jiang Nannan's voice was clear and crisp.
"U-understood!" Her opponent stammered nervously.
The referee continued, "Alright, both of you step back. Wait for my signal to begin. The use of fixed-installation soul tools or other high-damage soul tools relying on materials is prohibited."
"Senior… I'm Ma Yingjun, please go easy on me!" As Jiang Nannan retreated, she heard her opponent's voice.
"Hmm." Jiang Nannan felt like laughing but kept her cold demeanor. She simply nodded slightly and returned to the edge of the stage.
"Thank you, Senior!" Ma Yingjun beamed happily and followed her to the ring.
"Begin!" the referee shouted.
At the referee's command, Ma Yingjun reacted quickly. His arms raised, revealing three thumb-thick metal tubes on each arm. Two more thick metal barrels emerged from his shoulders. Folded wings on his back spread out, and six more tubes appeared on each leg. A soul tool shield shaped like a heart mirror covered his chest. Fully armed, his confidence increased noticeably.
But Jiang Nannan reacted just as swiftly. Her Lunar Jade Rabbit Martial Soul instantly appeared behind her, followed by five glowing soul rings. Her first soul skill activated at once — her delicate body turned into a silver flash and, in the blink of an eye, reached Ma Yingjun.
He had just barely finished gearing up and was completely unprepared for her speed. Before he could raise his hands to defend, she struck.
Her second soul skill, Silver Moon Sky Flash, was instantly unleashed. She grabbed Ma Yingjun by the shoulders. With a flex of her long legs, she carried him into the air, spun him with fierce momentum, and slammed him violently into the ground.
With a loud bang, everyone in the stands instinctively covered their eyes. Such a beautiful girl using such a brutal technique — it felt surreal.
Ma Yingjun's soul tools scattered as he hit the ground. Though his face was swollen and bruised, Jiang Nannan had held back enough to prevent any serious injury. Still, whatever desire to fight he had was gone.
"I-I surrender!" Ma Yingjun mumbled, eyes filled with fear as he looked up at her.
"Individual elimination match, first round — Shrek Academy wins," the referee declared. Even he looked at Jiang Nannan with newfound caution. If her performance on the first day had caught everyone's attention, then this battle had imprinted her brutal soul skill deep into their memories.
"Agility-type!" said Ma Rulong solemnly in the Dou Spirit Empire's rest area. "That's not good news for soul engineers like us."
"She's fast. It only took her five seconds to cross a stage over a hundred meters wide!" added Meng Hongchen. "If we face her, it'll be very tricky!"
Ma Yingjun staggered off the stage and returned to Cloudfall Academy. Their team captain looked livid. He had expected Shrek Academy to be strong, but not this overwhelming. A Soul King agility-type — how were they supposed to counter that?
"Shangyue, you're up!" he finally said, sending out a female student.
Shangyue was tall and slender, with long legs that made her visually striking when she faced Jiang Nannan.
Unlike Ma Yingjun, Shangyue was a melee-type soul engineer. Twin blades hung behind her back. As the fight began, she took the initiative and dashed forward, grabbing the blades. In a flash, she split them apart and brandished two four-foot sabers glowing with intense white light, each slashing with three-foot arcs aimed at Jiang Nannan.
Her Martial Soul released: three yellow rings and one purple — not extraordinary. Her figure grew taller with its activation, her eyes turned crystalline yellow, lips slightly protruding, revealing faint canine fangs. Clearly, it was a dog-type martial soul.
Facing Shangyue's frontal assault, Jiang Nannan smiled and leapt forward. Her speed far outmatched Shangyue's. She evaded the first attack with a backflip and used the opening to strike with her second soul skill again.
Once caught by Silver Moon Sky Flash, unless someone had vastly superior strength, escape was impossible. In panic, Shangyue was carried into the air and met the same fate as Ma Yingjun — slammed to the ground.
Shangyue lost all ability to fight. Jiang Nannan won her second match.
Cloudfall Academy's morale collapsed completely. Their captain had no choice but to enter the battlefield himself.
He stood in front of Jiang Nannan, his expression serious but respectful.
"Cloudfall Advanced Soul Engineering Academy, Situ Yu!"
"Shrek Academy, Jiang Nannan!" She was briefly startled, but immediately responded.
"You're very strong. But Cloudfall still has its dignity. Rather than suffering a humiliating defeat, I'd rather choose to lose with some pride. If you defeat me, we will concede the match."
"Fine." Jiang Nannan was slightly disappointed. She had hoped to achieve a full seven-win sweep today. It seemed that wouldn't happen.
"Step back!" the referee called gravely, sensing the significance of this bout. Once both contestants retreated, he shouted, "Begin!"
Situ Yu's body trembled, and in a blink, he transformed into a full turret. Soul tool armor covered him entirely — far more skilled and powerful than Ma Yingjun's gear.
Seeing this, Jiang Nannan frowned. Her second soul skill wouldn't work on someone sealed inside armor. She had to dismantle his external soul tools first to reach him.
Four soul rings floated behind Situ Yu as he launched a barrage of white energy blasts — each one the size of an egg — forming a wave of projectiles flying toward Jiang Nannan.
She activated her fourth soul skill. Her body flickered with silver light and vanished from view, reappearing right in front of Situ Yu.
Her left leg raised in a shooting stance. A purple glow gathered at her shin. With a powerful kick, a purple orb rocketed through the air, transforming midflight into a giant python with gaping jaws.
Situ Yu responded by unleashing even more projectiles, but they couldn't slow the serpent. The python crashed through them all and slammed into him.
The blast swallowed Situ Yu completely. A moment later, he reappeared — battered, his soul tools in tatters, incapable of continuing the fight.
The fourth soul skill — Spirit Demon Serpent God's Shot, from her Purple Fiend Enchanting Spirit Left Leg Bone!
Situ Yu grimaced but accepted defeat.
"I've lost. Cloudfall Academy concedes."
"Shrek Academy wins!" the referee announced, his voice booming across the entire arena.
The audience exploded into the loudest cheers yet.
"Valkyrie! Valkyrie! Valkyrie!"
With three stunning victories today, Jiang Nannan had truly earned the title of Valkyrie.
"That Jiang Nannan is a formidable enemy," Ma Rulong muttered from the Sun Moon Empire rest area, his tone heavy. "Using turret tactics against an agility-type soul master — absolutely foolish."
