Zhu Ziyang never expected that he would be so lucky—and yet so unlucky—as to encounter Star Radiance Unicorns.
It was lucky because the Star Radiance Unicorns were highly suitable soul beasts to provide a ring for the Stillness Fate Ending Scythe. These unicorns were kings among their kind. Like all unicorns, they possessed the attributes of light and holiness. Star Radiance Unicorns were extremely rare, with fewer than ten said to exist in the entire Star Dou Forest. Yet now, Zhu Ziyang had run into two of them.
It was unlucky because he had encountered them alone. Star Radiance Unicorns, bearing supreme bloodlines, were top-tier soul beasts with incredibly powerful combat capabilities. Normally, a Star Radiance Unicorn with over thirty thousand years of cultivation could fight the Ghost Moon Forest Python King to a standstill. Zhu Ziyang, a mere quasi-Soul Ancestor, stood no chance.
Swallowing nervously, he stared at the two unicorns across several dozen meters, praying that the books were right—that the Star Radiance Unicorns truly were gentle beasts that hated war. If not, he'd have to ask Electrolux to burn through more of his strength to help him escape.
"Ziyang, reveal your ultimate light," Electrolux suddenly said.
"Huh?" Zhu Ziyang was stunned. He didn't understand.
"Even though this world is different, unicorns everywhere adore creatures of light. That should hold true here as well," Electrolux explained. "Your ultimate light is a divine miracle in the eyes of any unicorn, something sacred and untouchable. Let these two feel your light aura. They won't harm you. Who knows—they might even help you find your companions."
"What? No way. They're soul beasts and I'm a soul master!" Zhu Ziyang replied in disbelief.
"Heh! A unicorn's faith in light far surpasses any hatred it might bear toward soul masters," Electrolux said with a sneer.
"Then... I'll give it a try," Zhu Ziyang said uncertainly. Holding onto a glimmer of hope, he released a wisp of his light aura.
A holy, radiant presence unfurled from his body, sacred and untouchable, like a divine revelation piercing the dark forest.
The two Star Radiance Unicorns slowly approached him. Zhu Ziyang was tense to the extreme—until he saw the larger unicorn's eyes, which were filled with pious reverence. Only then did he relax slightly.
They walked right up to him. The larger unicorn's head stopped less than an inch from his face. He could feel its warm breath. Then, under his stunned gaze, both unicorns slowly knelt before him, lowering their proud heads. Their crystalline horns gleamed, presented completely undefended before Zhu Ziyang. Like tame steeds, they humbly bowed in submission before him.
"This..." Zhu Ziyang stood frozen, unsure what to do.
"Reach out and touch its horn," Electrolux said at just the right moment.
"Oh, right!" Zhu Ziyang followed the instruction mechanically. This was a first for him—even the books hadn't mentioned anything like this.
The moment his hand touched the large unicorn's horn, it radiated a soft light. Then, a gentle female voice echoed in his mind.
"O Supreme and Noble Child of Light, the king of the Star Dou Forest's unicorn clan offers you our submission."
Zhu Ziyang's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Teacher, did you know this would happen?" he asked Electrolux in his mind.
"Heh~ I only had a guess," Electrolux chuckled. "As I thought, unicorns really are the same. Back in my younger days, I also earned a unicorn's loyalty. For us Children of Light—wielders of ultimate light—unicorns are absolutely faithful partners."
"I see!" Zhu Ziyang was awestruck. "Then what should I do next?"
"Simply accept it," Electrolux said calmly.
"Understood." Zhu Ziyang looked at the large Star Radiance Unicorn and said, "I accept your loyalty. You may rise."
"Thank you for your acknowledgment!" the unicorn said joyfully as it stood up, then affectionately rubbed its head against Zhu Ziyang. The smaller unicorn followed suit, mimicking its elder as it nuzzled him.
To be treated so humbly by a soul beast with ten-thousand-year cultivation, Zhu Ziyang felt almost like he was floating. He asked, "How did you find me?"
"It was your light origin that guided me," the larger unicorn replied.
"...?" Zhu Ziyang was surprised. That wasn't something mentioned in the books—but then again, written records on the Star Radiance Unicorns barely reached a hundred words, so it made sense.
The large unicorn ignored his confusion and asked respectfully, "Honored Child of Light, have you come in search of a soul ring?"
That question left Zhu Ziyang momentarily speechless. He wanted to lie, but he couldn't bring himself to deceive such devout beings. So he remained silent.
"You need not worry, Honored One. For lesser soul beasts, it is an honor to become your soul ring," the unicorn said gently, seemingly comforting him.
That completely disarmed Zhu Ziyang. This unicorn wasn't just loyal—it was empathetic. Such faithful followers were truly rare. With a smile, he replied, "I am indeed looking for a soul ring. My light martial soul has reached its bottleneck. I need one to advance."
As he spoke, he summoned the Stillness Fate Ending Scythe. A powerful wave of light burst forth, causing both unicorns to grow visibly excited.
"This is my martial soul—the Stillness Fate Ending Scythe!"
"I can sense your power, Honored One," the unicorn said with excitement. "But it seems you have yet to complete your breakthrough. Might I make a humble request?"
Zhu Ziyang blinked, then smiled wryly. "What do you wish for? If it's within my ability, I won't refuse."
He was already preparing himself to make some major sacrifice. But what the unicorn said next nearly made him collapse from shock.
"I wish to become your soul ring!"
The unicorn's eyes shone with desire and hope as it gazed at him with imploring sincerity.
Zhu Ziyang was stunned, unable to believe what he'd just heard.
"You... what? Say that again?"
"Honored Child of Light, I, king of the Star Radiance Unicorns in the Star Dou Forest, request to become your soul ring!" the unicorn declared solemnly.
Zhu Ziyang finally recovered from the shock. This was too absurd—another soul beast was offering itself as his soul ring! This was the second unbelievable event he had experienced after a hundred-thousand-year soul beast had once willingly sacrificed itself for him.
"Ziyang, don't refuse her!" Electrolux warned. "Star Radiance Unicorns are proud. If their loyalty is rejected, they can fall and become nightmare beasts!"
"Star Radiance Unicorn, I want to say yes—but your cultivation far exceeds what I can bear," Zhu Ziyang said with a bitter smile. Though he heard Electrolux's warning, he still chose to be honest.
"Honored One, you need not worry!" the unicorn's eyes lit up. "I will fully cooperate! Our kind has incredibly high compatibility with you. We can completely bypass the soul ring age limit!"
"This..." Zhu Ziyang didn't know what else to say. He could only respond, "If that's the case, then I accept. By the way, what is your cultivation level?"
"Thank you for your blessing!" the unicorn said joyfully. "I am fifty thousand years in cultivation."
"Fifty thousand years!" Zhu Ziyang was nearly numb.
Right now, he could only safely absorb a fourth ring of no more than fifteen thousand years. And this unicorn had fifty thousand years of cultivation! Could he really endure it?
"Ziyang, don't worry," Electrolux reassured him. "While absorbing this ring, I'll help refine your first three rings' life force. With their feedback and enhancement, you'll be able to handle the unicorn's ring."
"Alright!" Encouraged, Zhu Ziyang turned to the unicorn and asked, "When shall we begin?"
"I await your command," the unicorn replied.
"You'll listen to me?" Zhu Ziyang suddenly had an idea. "Then can you come with me to find my companions first?"
"At your command!" the Star Radiance Unicorn said, bowing.
