Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Freshman Assessment! (Part 10)

In the eyes of the crowd, Beibei walked out from among the people and entered the arena. The smile on his face didn't change, and his composed, neither humble nor arrogant attitude made Yan Shaozhe's eyes light up. He couldn't help but say, "Not bad, young man."

Hearing Yan Shaozhe's praise, Beibei politely bowed, then reached out to draw their lot.

"Class Five Freshmen, Beibei's team, Number Two."

Upon hearing this, the trio from Class One led by Chu Hua visibly let out a sigh of relief, but their joy was short-lived. They quickly became worried—although they hadn't drawn the lot to face one of the only two undefeated teams, Beibei's team, there was still a chance they could encounter the strongest freshman team—Zhu Ziyang's. Both Chu Hua's trio and the team from Class Three who were about to draw lots began silently praying, hoping the two undefeated teams would clash with each other.

Interestingly, only two teams among the top four had remained undefeated during the ranking matches.

The team leader from Class Three stepped up to draw. Everyone's eyes were fixed on him because his luck would determine the matchups for the semifinals.

Du Weilun accepted the slip, glanced at it, and his expression grew slightly odd. Then he announced, "Class Three Freshmen, Zhao Lei's team, Number One!"

As soon as he spoke, both Beibei's and Zhu Ziyang's teams simultaneously turned to look at each other. Their eyes were filled with blazing fighting spirit and nothing else. The teachers present also showed surprised and excited expressions. Everyone knew that Zhu Ziyang's team and Beibei's team were the strongest contenders for the championship of this freshman assessment. No one expected them to meet in the semifinals—this was going to be a thrilling showdown.

This wasn't a semifinal. It was clearly the final!

The other two teams felt incredibly fortunate. No matter what, not having to face Zhu Ziyang or Beibei meant they had a good chance of making it to the final. If the fight between those two top teams was intense enough and left the winners exhausted, they might even have a shot at winning the championship themselves.

The lot drawing concluded, and the matches were about to begin.

Neither Zhu Ziyang's team nor Beibei's team exchanged words with each other. There would be time for that after the match—for now, they were only opponents.

The teachers quickly entered the testing area, crowding around Arena Two. Compared to a battle between six Soul Grandmasters, a clash involving a Soul Elder was bound to be far more exciting.

"Du Weilun, who do you think has the higher chance of winning?" Yan Shaozhe had also arrived near Arena Two and asked the instructor beside him.

"Though Zhu Ziyang's soul power has reached level 36, Beibei's team is no slouch. Beibei's martial soul is the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, and Xu Sanshi's is the Black Tortoise Shield, both of which are renowned powerful martial souls. Based on Zhu Ziyang's unknown mutated martial soul alone, it's hard to say who has the edge," Du Weilun replied.

"The girl in Beibei's team also possesses an unusual martial soul—the Golden Crystal Mystic Deer, which has a domain ability that slows enemies. In comparison, Zhu Ziyang's teammates Jiang Nannan and Tang Ya, with their mutated Soft Bone Rabbit and Blue Silver Grass martial souls, are slightly less impressive."

"I see…" Yan Shaozhe's expression grew more eager as he said,

"That makes this battle all the more interesting. Very good."

His gaze settled on Zhu Ziyang as he thought,

'Let's see what you're really capable of. Don't disappoint me.'

Yan Shaozhe's face remained calm and unreadable.

"Freshman Assessment Semifinal, Arena Two. Both teams, announce your names!" a middle-aged teacher called out from the center of the arena.

Upon hearing this, both teams stepped forward from their positions.

"Class Five Freshmen, Beibei!"

"Class Five Freshmen, Xu Sanshi!"

"Class Five Freshmen, Xue Weiwei!"

The three stood on the northern side of the arena.

"Class Four Freshmen, Zhu Ziyang!"

"Class Four Freshmen, Jiang Nannan!"

"Class Four Freshmen, Tang Ya!"

Zhu Ziyang's team stood on the southern side.

With the names declared, the battle was ready to erupt.

After the judge announced the start of the match, Beibei's team didn't rush into action. Instead, Beibei took the initiative to speak.

"Ziyang, I've been waiting for this moment for three months. Finally, I have a chance to compete with you!" Beibei said, his handsome face filled with excitement and intense fighting spirit.

As an unquestioned genius, Beibei had always been the top among his peers since childhood. It wasn't until he met Zhu Ziyang that he realized there were people in the world even more talented than him. Rather than feeling discouraged, he was full of motivation and eager to test himself in a real battle.

"I'd be glad to!" Zhu Ziyang's team didn't rush either. After hearing Beibei's words, Zhu Ziyang replied,

"You and Xu Sanshi are the only two freshmen who've sparked my desire to fight. So, I won't be holding back!"

"As it should be!" Zhu Ziyang's response made Beibei and Xu Sanshi's eyes light up. Both of them were proud and competitive. They had no intention of receiving any mercy in such an important match.

Their brief exchange concluded, and the battle officially began.

Beibei's body erupted in blue light, and bluish-purple lightning, like little snakes, coiled around his body. His right arm swelled into a massive, ferocious dragon claw. Behind him, two yellow soul rings hovered.

Not far behind him, Xu Sanshi's body also glowed dark. A black-green tortoise shell shield appeared in his hand. Like Beibei, he had two yellow rings behind him. Against the backdrop of his martial soul, his bronze-colored skin actually looked a bit fair.

The one who drew the most attention from Zhu Ziyang's team was Xue Weiwei. This girl had never used her martial soul in previous matches and was regarded by many as just a pretty face. But this time, she finally revealed it. Her body emitted a sparkling yellow radiance. A pair of crystalline yellow antlers emerged from her forehead, and her figure elongated slightly, making her appear more mature. Two yellow soul rings floated beside the antlers on either side of her head.

"So that's the Golden Crystal Mystic Deer?" Zhu Ziyang murmured. He then instructed, "Nannan, Ya, you two prioritize taking down Xue Weiwei!"

"Got it!" the two girls replied in unison.

They released their martial souls. Jiang Nannan and Tang Ya's appearances were unchanged from before. But what really caught all the teachers' attention was that, for the first time, Zhu Ziyang revealed his soul rings—demonstrating his respect for the two level 28 Soul Grandmasters he was facing.

It was still the Stillness Fate Ending Scythe—but this time, its aura was completely unrestrained. Brilliant and holy light blended with icy, annihilating death. His soul ring configuration of one yellow and two purple dazzled everyone and challenged all their senses.

"This…" Yan Shaozhe abruptly stood up from his seat on the viewing platform. For the first time, his previously unreadable expression revealed shock, excitement, and elation. His burning gaze locked onto Zhu Ziyang. He turned to Du Weilun and said, "Du Weilun, keep an eye on things here. I'm heading back to Sea God's Pavilion!"

Ultimate Light! That was definitely Ultimate Light!

To stir the Light Phoenix martial soul into resonating, this aura had to be Ultimate Light!

'I have to inform my teacher immediately!' Yan Shaozhe thought, turning and hurrying off without another word.

An Ultimate Light attribute super martial soul—how could he not be thrilled? As Shrek Academy's Headmaster, Yan Shaozhe knew better than anyone what an Ultimate martial soul meant—especially one of the light element! Light was one of the superior elemental attributes. Ultimate Light was undoubtedly stronger. If Zhu Ziyang matured and became a Title Douluo…

Yan Shaozhe's body was trembling with excitement.

Why were the soul beasts of the Star Dou Forest currently so dominant? Wasn't it because of the existence of the Beast God—Di Tian, the Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King, who wielded the Ultimate Darkness attribute? Even his own teacher, Mu En, had admitted that in terms of individual power, he was inferior to Di Tian.

Mu En was a level 99 Ultimate Douluo, possessing a Holy Light Dragon martial soul with near-Ultimate Light properties—yet still not a match for Di Tian. That alone showed how terrifying Ultimate attributes were!

Yan Shaozhe was so overwhelmed by the shock of discovering Ultimate Light that he completely missed Zhu Ziyang's top-tier soul ring configuration and the scythe's most terrifying trait—the coexistence of Light and Death!
