All students of Class Four followed Xia Yu to the open space in front of the teaching building.
It was a rectangular clearing roughly a hundred meters long and fifty meters wide. The ground was paved with sturdy geocore rock, capable of withstanding the impact of a Soul Emperor's power. Its flat surface made it an ideal battleground.
Everyone formed a circle to designate the combat area.
Standing at the front, Xia Yu said, "Group One, begin!"
"Nannan, you got this!" Tang Ya cheered enthusiastically.
Jiang Nannan responded with a smile, then turned to look at Zhu Ziyang. When she saw him giving her an encouraging thumbs-up, she walked confidently into the field.
Naturally, this scene was noticed by several girls who had taken an interest in Zhu Ziyang. Li Yue was clearly among them. Displeased, she took this opportunity to teach Jiang Nannan a lesson. Her expression was sour as she stepped into the ring.
"State your names," said Xia Yu, who temporarily acted as referee.
"Jiang Nannan, level 25 agility-type Soul Grandmaster."
"Li Yue, level 24 control-type Soul Grandmaster."
Both girls spoke simultaneously. Jiang Nannan's soul power surprised many of the students outside the ring. But when they thought about her close relationship with Zhu Ziyang, it suddenly made sense.
"Level 25? Besides the class monitor, is there anyone else stronger than Jiang Nannan?"
"Not sure."
"No wonder she's so close with the class monitor."
"Tch, I heard they grew up together. Of course they're close."
The crowd murmured with curiosity and speculation.
"Begin!" Xia Yu announced.
Both Jiang Nannan and Li Yue released their martial souls at the same time.
Above Jiang Nannan's head appeared a pair of pale moon-colored rabbit ears, and a soft white crescent moon mark glowed on her forehead. Her figure became even more slender and agile, with her already elegant legs standing out all the more. Two yellow soul rings gleamed behind her.
Li Yue's martial soul was a dark rope with white iron rings at both ends. It slithered in her hands like a snake, its flexibility and motion fluid and practiced. Behind her were also two yellow soul rings.
"Darkcloud Rope martial soul... not bad for a control-type," Zhu Ziyang muttered under his breath. But his heart was calm—Jiang Nannan had this under control.
"Why do you look so calm? Aren't you worried for Nannan?" Tang Ya suddenly appeared beside him, whispering.
"I trust her strength," Zhu Ziyang replied with a smile.
In the ring, both girls made their moves as their soul rings lit up. When activated, Jiang Nannan's body shimmered with a ghostly glow and became slightly translucent—her first soul skill, Moonshadow Body. Her speed instantly doubled, and she lunged forward like a swift leopard.
Meanwhile, Li Yue's change focused entirely on her rope. The Darkcloud Rope, originally one meter long, expanded to ten meters and struck toward Jiang Nannan like a venomous snake, fast and unpredictable.
Naturally, Jiang Nannan wouldn't stand still and get trapped. She moved swiftly, closing the distance under the effect of her soul skill. But Li Yue seemed to have anticipated this. The rope suddenly twisted mid-air and cut across Jiang Nannan's path. Caught off guard, Jiang Nannan collided head-on with the rope and was immediately bound.
Li Yue smiled in satisfaction, but her smile quickly faded. What she saw stunned her: Jiang Nannan twisted her body like a serpent and slipped free from the rope's coils.
As soon as she broke free, Jiang Nannan's speed exploded. In a blink, she was already in front of Li Yue. The latter panicked and tried to activate her second soul skill, but before the soul ring could fully light up, Jiang Nannan had already grabbed her by the waist.
"The match is over," Zhu Ziyang whispered.
"Huh?" Tang Ya blinked in confusion.
Then, in the blink of an eye, Jiang Nannan leapt high into the air with Li Yue in tow. Her second soul ring shone brilliantly as she rose nearly ten meters. With a graceful 360-degree spin, she hurled the dazed Li Yue down in a perfect arc.
To the stunned audience, it was like watching a full moon casting down radiant light.
"Teacher, save her!" Zhu Ziyang called out.
But Xia Yu had already moved. Before Zhu Ziyang finished his sentence, the teacher's shadow had flashed through the field. When he reappeared, he was holding Li Yue safely in his arms.
"Group One, Jiang Nannan wins," Xia Yu announced as he gently laid Li Yue down.
Everyone stared at Jiang Nannan in stunned silence as she gracefully landed on the ground. Her martial soul and soul rings vanished, and she returned to her usual gentle and soft demeanor, flashing Zhu Ziyang a sweet smile. He gave her a thumbs-up in return.
"Nannan... she..." Tang Ya swallowed hard. She had never imagined that such a gentle-looking girl could use such a brutal technique. If Xia Yu hadn't caught Li Yue in time, that throw could have easily broken her bones. Even so, Li Yue now lay groaning to the side, looking ready to vomit her breakfast. Tang Ya shuddered.
'Please... don't let me end up fighting her,' she thought.
And she wasn't the only one. Many students were now afraid of this seemingly gentle girl. The contrast was just too shocking.
Zhu Ziyang chuckled but said nothing.
Jiang Nannan's second soul skill was called Sky Moon Slam. When activated, it instantly doubled her strength and infused her hands with binding moonlight energy. She could then lift an opponent into the air and slam them down violently.
The skill came from the soul ring of a 900-year-old Flying Moon Hawk. It was modeled after the bird's hunting behavior and perfectly matched Jiang Nannan's martial soul. While it couldn't compare to the legendary Eightfold Explosive Suplex, it still raised her combat level by an entire tier. Unless her opponent was a strength-type soul master or a giant beast, anyone caught in close range had to be careful—the final slam of Sky Moon Slam unleashed five times Jiang Nannan's base strength.
"Group Two, begin," Xia Yu said, not lingering on Jiang Nannan and Li Yue. Although her strength surprised him, the priority now was continuing the match.
The second pair entered the field, introduced themselves, and the battle began.
"Lin Ziwei, level 24 power-attack-type Soul Grandmaster!"
"Luo Tianyou, level 24 power-attack-type Soul Grandmaster!"
Along with Li Yue, these two made up the only three students in Class Four who had reached level 24. Lin Ziwei's martial soul was the Tiger Soul Blade, a heavy and ancient broadsword. Luo Tianyou's martial soul was the Rock Armor Bear, a high-grade beast soul known for its combination of strength and defense.
The two were evenly matched.
Lin Ziwei's Tiger Soul Blade was a massive weapon that demanded immense strength. Its edge was razor sharp and known for its armor-piercing capabilities. Luo Tianyou, meanwhile, relied on his thick hide and brute power. From the start, the match was a direct clash of strength.
Steel met claw, sparks flying. The two teens were evenly matched, neither giving an inch.
As the fight heated up, both began using their soul skills. In the end, it was the more agile Lin Ziwei who gained a slight advantage. Using superior technique and a boost from his soul skill, he narrowly defeated Luo Tianyou.
Zhu Ziyang observed carefully. Lin Ziwei's second soul skill was an enhancement-type ability that significantly boosted his strength and made his Tiger Soul Blade even sharper, allowing it to cut through the Rock Armor Bear's defenses and clinch the win.
