After dinner, Zhu Ziyang and Jiang Nannan returned to the new student teaching building.
They headed over to the announcement board outside and quickly located the list of new student class assignments. Each class had one hundred students. So far, four classes were already full. Since Zhu Ziyang and Jiang Nannan had just registered today, they ended up with two of the last three remaining slots and were assigned to Class Four.
Now, Class Five already had ninety-two students, and with three days left in the enrollment period, Zhu Ziyang estimated there would likely be six to eight classes this year.
"Beibei, Beibei, I'm in Class Four!" A cheerful and lively girl's voice rang out nearby, clearly quite delighted.
Zhu Ziyang and Jiang Nannan were drawn to the energetic voice and looked over to see a pretty girl with a heart-shaped face, phoenix eyes, and a single ponytail. Her aura radiated joy and vitality.
"I saw that. Sigh, what a pity—I ended up in Class Five. Missed it by one slot!" Next to the girl stood a tall and graceful young man with short dark blue hair, refined features, and a gentle smile. He looked at the girl dotingly, his tone tinged with regret.
"It's fine. Class Four and Class Five aren't far apart," the girl consoled him with a smile.
Zhu Ziyang and Jiang Nannan didn't pay them much attention and left the teaching building.
"It's still early. Want to go for a walk in the city?" Zhu Ziyang suggested.
"I think I'll pass. I want to go back and cultivate," Jiang Nannan replied after a moment's thought, a bit downcast. "You're already at level thirty-five. If I don't work harder, I really won't be able to keep up."
"Alright then," Zhu Ziyang said, understanding her concern. He gently stroked her hair to comfort her. "Don't stress too much. I'm here for you."
"Mm!" Jiang Nannan responded softly, her smile blooming like spring.
Zhu Ziyang walked her back to the dorm, then headed off to Shrek City by himself.
For students at Shrek Academy, the north gate was the typical choice for entering the city—it was the shortest route from the academy's east section.
Looking at the layout, Zhu Ziyang couldn't help but grumble about the architectural planning of Shrek City. It made no sense to him that the academy and city, despite being connected, had no western exit on the academy wall, which would have drastically shortened the walk. Instead, the wall was a blank stretch of solid stone.
It took him nearly twenty minutes to enter Shrek City through the north gate.
He wandered the city aimlessly, letting his gaze roam across the bustling shops. The night market was lively and just as impressive as the one in Heaven Dou City.
But after a while, Zhu Ziyang found himself growing bored. Wandering without a purpose felt pointless, and his wallet wasn't exactly brimming. Despite having nearly 100,000 gold soul coins from his parents, it still wasn't enough to buy the kind of resources truly beneficial for a soul master's cultivation in Shrek City.
As for "lucky finds" or treasure-hunting in stores—he scoffed at the idea. He wasn't naive enough to believe that the merchants were fools.
Feeling uninspired, Zhu Ziyang returned to the academy.
Back in the dormitory, his room was still empty. It slowly dawned on him—he probably didn't have a roommate. Class Four was already full, and yet no one else had shown up. That likely meant no one else was coming.
He couldn't help but feel pleased about that.
With a grin, he settled down and began his evening cultivation.
——
The next morning at six o'clock, Zhu Ziyang woke up as usual.
Glancing at the still-empty bed across from his, he confirmed that he wouldn't be getting a roommate.
After quickly washing up, he left the dormitory and walked to the front entrance.
The early morning air was crisp and fresh. The elderly man was still reclining peacefully in his chair by the door, his expression serene, his breathing steady.
Zhu Ziyang gave the elder a polite wave, then leaned against the opposite wall, pulling out a book and waiting quietly.
Of course, he was waiting for Jiang Nannan. Even though both of them had made significant progress in strength, they had kept up their habit of morning runs. To maximize the training effect, they also ran with weighted gear.
About five minutes later, a blue-haired youth emerged from the dormitory corridor and walked toward the entrance. He greeted the old man respectfully—making him the only other student besides Zhu Ziyang to do so—then moved to stand nearby, eyes fixed on the stairway.
Clearly, he was also waiting for someone.
Zhu Ziyang found the blue-haired boy vaguely familiar. His eyes narrowed in thought, and after a second, he remembered. Wasn't this the boy who had been at the bulletin board last night with that lively girl?
The youth had a roguish smile and relaxed posture, hands tucked behind his head. When he noticed Zhu Ziyang, he stepped closer.
"Hey, I'm Yu Beibei from Class Five. Haven't we met before?" he asked with a friendly grin.
Yu Beibei?
Zhu Ziyang's eyes flickered, though his expression remained calm. "Hello, I'm Zhu Ziyang from Class Four."
"Oh!" Yu Beibei exclaimed, realization dawning. "Right, we saw each other at the board last night."
Zhu Ziyang nodded with a faint smile, eyes glinting with subtle thought.
Yu Beibei—definitely a character from Peerless Tang Sect. In the fragmented memories of his previous life, Zhu Ziyang recalled seeing this name at least three times.
'Things are getting more and more interesting,' he thought.
"You waiting for that girl you were with last night?" Yu Beibei asked casually.
"Aren't you doing the same?" Zhu Ziyang replied.
"Hehe, you got me. Yeah, I'm waiting for my childhood friend. Looks like she and your classmate are roommates. Small world, huh?"
"It really is," Zhu Ziyang agreed.
The two boys chatted casually, forming the early threads of a budding friendship.
A few minutes later, Jiang Nannan came downstairs—with none other than the girl from last night, the one who had been with Yu Beibei. She had her long black hair tied in a ponytail and carried herself with lively grace.
"Ziyang-ge!" Jiang Nannan waved happily when she saw him.
The girl beside her also waved and called out, "Beibei!"
Clearly, both boys had been waiting for their respective companions—and now they were here. What no one expected was that the two girls had already become acquainted.
The two young ladies approached them.
"Brother, this is my roommate, and our classmate. Her name is Tang Ya," Jiang Nannan introduced with a smile.
"Hello, I'm Tang Ya. I'm also the sect master of Tang Sect!" Tang Ya studied Zhu Ziyang curiously, her expression both sweet and proud.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Zhu Ziyang." He responded with a smile, though a flash of something complex passed through his eyes.
Tang Ya? Yet another character from the books.
Tang Sect? A name that once shook the entire continent.
Once the most powerful sect capable of shifting the balance of power, it had now declined to the point that an eleven- or twelve-year-old girl could be its master?
Zhu Ziyang couldn't help but think, 'Serves them right.'
"Nannan, this is Beibei, my senior disciple from the Tang Sect!" Tang Ya pulled Yu Beibei over and introduced him to Jiang Nannan.
"Hello, I'm Jiang Nannan," she said with a friendly smile.
"Hi, I'm Yu Beibei from Class Five," he replied.
"Shall we go eat?" Tang Ya asked.
"Not yet. I'm going for a morning run with my brother first. We'll eat afterward," Jiang Nannan replied.
"Ugh, running on an empty stomach sounds awful," Tang Ya groaned. "Then Beibei and I will head to breakfast first."
"Alright," Jiang Nannan smiled and nodded.
The two girls had made their decision and were already walking off—without ever asking the boys' opinions.
