Chapter 1 - Chapter one: The Crash

Rain hammered against the windshield, each drop blurring the world into streaks of gray and gold from the streetlights. The wipers fought to keep up, squealing with every desperate sweep.

"Almost home," Mom said, her voice a little too tight. Her hands gripped the wheel like the storm might snatch it away from her.

I stared out the window, my breath fogging the glass. My phone buzzed in my lap — a message from Ari, my best friend since forever. Party's starting! Don't ditch me, Lil. A smile tugged at my lips. Ari always hated being the first one to arrive anywhere.

I typed back quickly, "Almost there. Save me a cupcake."

I didn't know it would be the last message I'd ever send her.

The truck came out of nowhere — headlights exploding through the rain, the roar of tires losing grip. Mom's gasp. My scream. A sound like metal being ripped in half. Then everything went black.

When I woke, it wasn't in a hospital.

It was in a bedroom I didn't recognize. The walls were a soft cream color, covered in old Polaroids of people I'd never seen before. Rain still tapped at the windows, but the sound was gentler here, like it belonged.

I pushed myself up, my body oddly light, as if the weight of my own skin had disappeared. And then I saw her.

A girl — my age, maybe seventeen — sitting cross-legged on the bed across from me. She had a tangle of dark curls, skin the shade of warm honey, and eyes that felt like they were looking straight into my chest.

"You made it," she said, smiling in relief.

My mouth went dry. "Where… am I?"

Her smile faltered, replaced by something almost… sad.

"You're in my world now," she said softly. "My name's Mira. And… I think we share the same soul"Alright — I'll write Chapter One of Two Chances, One Soul in a style that matches standard teen romance novels: immersive descriptions, emotional hooks, and a strong opening scene to grab the reader.
