"But… how should I handle this?" Merus felt a headache coming on.
"Merus, think of this as part of your training. It's a trial on your path to becoming a true Angel," Whis said with his usual smile. "So you'll need to find a way to resolve this yourself."
Merus slapped his forehead helplessly, caught between laughter and frustration.
"That's how it is. If there's a problem, contact me again." Whis washed his hands of the matter completely. Troublesome things like this were better left to Merus.
"Whis-nii, there's one more thing…" Merus quickly added. "It's about Frieza."
"Frieza?" Whis paused in mild surprise.
"To be precise, it's about Frieza's son, Ize," Merus sighed.
"My, my, Frieza's son Ize. Wasn't he frozen on his homeworld? Don't tell me he's been released early?" Whis asked casually.
"Yes. After being unfrozen, he seemed intent on attacking Galactic Patrol Headquarters. Unfortunately for him, he ran into Jaco on his way back from Earth—and Jaco's ship happened to be carrying Ken and Broly." Merus explained the cause and outcome in detail. "The Broly at Ken's side was so strong he literally tore Ize in half. Ize is dead now, and sooner or later, news of this will reach Frieza's ears."
Whis fell silent for a few moments.
"Broly, at Ken's side?" he muttered, lightly tapping the crystal ball atop his staff. With a gentle swipe of his finger, the image shifted, and then he spread his thumb and forefinger apart.
Instantly, a projection appeared beside the crystal sphere—Broly.
Whis studied the image carefully, then nodded with a thoughtful expression. "Ah, I see. So this Broly must be the Legendary Super Saiyan Frieza has always feared."
"Legendary Super Saiyan?" Merus blinked in surprise.
"No wonder he was able to defeat Ize," Whis said in realization.
"The problem is, if I send Ken to Universe 10 during this period and Frieza attacks Galactic Patrol Headquarters… I fear there won't be anyone strong enough here to stop him," Merus said seriously. "Should I have Broly remain behind?"
"Merus, the Galactic Patrol has always maintained good relations with the Supreme Kais. Perhaps you could contact the Kai and request his assistance," Whis suggested. "After all, over ten million years ago, the former Grand Supreme Kai was already cooperating with the Patrol."
"That's true. Back then, the Grand Supreme Kai sealed Moro and entrusted him to us for imprisonment," Merus's eyes lit up. "I know what to do. I'll try to reach the Supreme Kai right away."
"You could even bring Mr. Ken along, let him meet the Supreme Kai. It might be a valuable experience for him," Whis advised.
"I understand." Merus nodded.
Their conversation ended.
With a wave, Merus dismissed his staff and flicked his hand at the door, dispersing the Angelic barrier covering it. He stepped out and quickly made his way to the control room.
"Any news about Frieza?" Merus asked the staff members.
"Ah, Patrolman Merus!" one greeted politely before glancing at the monitors. "We're currently tracking Frieza's ship. It seems he's unaware of his son's death."
"If he were to learn of it, how long would it take his ship to reach us?" Merus asked.
"The Frieza Force is far from Patrol space. To mount a full invasion, it would take at least a month," the staffer replied after working the console.
"And if he came at full speed on his fastest ship?"
"Twenty days at the very least."
"Good. Thank you," Merus said with relief.
Although he could have checked all of this instantly with his Angelic staff, he refrained. He was here for training—if he relied on divine tools for everything, the trial would lose its purpose.
So, roughly a month before any large-scale threat. That gave him time to meet the Supreme Kai and arrange things. If Frieza truly attacked, it would be a nightmare for the Patrol.
Merus strode toward the mess hall.
Inside, he immediately spotted Ken and Broly devouring food as if starved.
"Have you two not eaten for days?" Jaco was nearly in tears. "You're not eating meals—you're eating my salary! Do you know how hard it is for me to earn money? With Ken added in, the two of you have already consumed enough for forty men."
"Today's just enough for thirty percent full," Ken said with a smile.
"I'm… fifty percent," Broly added, patting his stomach.
Jaco nearly broke down crying. "I feed you and you're still not full… I'm the real tragedy here."
"Ken." Merus waved with a friendly smile.
"Merus, did you find a solution?" Ken stood politely, anticipation in his eyes.
"Sorry, not exactly," Merus admitted with a shake of his head.
"So there's no way?" Ken asked, disappointed.
"Just because I can't doesn't mean no one can," Merus grinned. "Ken, get yourself ready. In the next couple of days, I'll take you somewhere. Perhaps someone there can help. If not, we'll think of another plan."
Merus had it figured out. Ken's journey couldn't be too smooth. Struggles would make him treasure the progress of his training more. First, take him to the Supreme Kai. Naturally, the Kai wouldn't be able to resolve Ken's Angelic energy problem. Then he could tell Ken, "See? Even a true god can't help. You'll have to rely on yourself."
That way, Ken would train even harder. Then, Merus could find a way to steer him toward Universe 10.
Once Ken and Broly were asleep, Merus could subtly redirect their ship with Angelic power, cause a "malfunction," and arrange for an emergency landing in the God of Destruction's realm. That would lead Ken straight to Kusu, and Merus's mission would be complete.
"Where are we going?" Ken asked, full of expectation. Could it be to meet Whis?
