Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Whis — The Grand Priest’s Headache

"So… Ken went to see you?" Whis was momentarily taken aback.

"Yes… but that's not the main point," Merus replied with an exasperated smile.

Whis: "???"

How is that not the main point?

"Merus, what exactly happened?" Whis asked in confusion.

"Ken has managed to cultivate Divine ki," Merus said, enunciating each word clearly.

Whis's expression froze, and he was silent for a long moment—ten full seconds, in fact.

"Aiya, aiya… this really is a major event," Whis said in astonishment. "There's never been a precedent for a human cultivating Divine ki."

"Are you sure you didn't teach Ken some other method?" Merus asked again.

"Even if I did, Merus, do you think a human could cultivate Divine ki?" Whis didn't answer directly but posed a rhetorical question instead.

Merus went quiet.

True. Even with serious, dedicated instruction, a human shouldn't be able to cultivate Divine ki.

At most, they could develop the power of Ultra Instinct.

But true Divine ki—the kind only angels use? That was supposed to be impossible.

"How is this happening?" Merus found himself completely at a loss.

"What does his Divine ki look like?" Whis asked.

"According to Ken himself, it lacks purity," Merus explained honestly. "I saw it too. It's murky—nowhere near as refined as mine. But one thing's for sure: what he produced was absolutely Divine ki. No doubt about it."

"Amazing… truly amazing," Whis murmured, deeply moved.

"Then… should we report this to the Grand Priest?" Merus asked.

"I'll handle it," Whis replied after thinking for a moment, nodding in agreement.

"And also, Brother Whis… Mr. Ken asked me about improving the purity of Divine ki, but I have no idea how to help him," Merus admitted, a bit troubled.

"I'll ask the Grand Priest first," Whis said, then immediately ended the call.

Universe 7 – Planet Beerus.

After finishing the call with Merus, Whis stood silently, holding his staff.

"Whoosh!"

At that moment, a fish riding in a bowl floated over from the distance.

"Whis, what's going on?" the fish asked in human speech.

"Ah, the Oracle Fish," Whis turned his head to look.

"You rarely space out like this," the Oracle Fish commented.

"There's something odd going on… I may need the Grand Priest's input," Whis said thoughtfully. Then he asked, "By the way, do you have any new prophecies lately?"

"I do! And it's a big one—I was just about to tell you," the Oracle Fish nodded.

"What is it?" Whis asked.

"I foresee that very soon, a truly great angel will be born," the Oracle Fish replied.

"How great?" Whis pressed.

"No idea," the fish shook its head.

Whis: "..."

A brief silence followed.

"According to my prophecy—actually, never mind," the Oracle Fish shook its head furiously halfway through its sentence.

Whis rubbed his forehead, speechless.

"Aiya, aiya… don't stop halfway," Whis coaxed.

"Alright, but you must promise not to tell anyone… this stays between us," the Oracle Fish warned with a serious expression.

"Haha, deal," Whis nodded cheerfully.

"According to my prophecy, the newly born angel may even surpass the Grand Priest…" the Oracle Fish whispered cautiously.

"Aiya, aiya, now that is serious," Whis said, sounding impressed. "The Grand Priest might be in trouble."

"Don't you dare tell him!" the Oracle Fish pleaded urgently.

"I won't, I won't," Whis said… and instantly used his staff to contact the Grand Priest.

"You… who are you calling?" the Oracle Fish asked nervously.

"Whis, do you need something?" the Grand Priest's voice immediately came through.

Oracle Fish: "..."

At that moment, the Oracle Fish felt like it was going to die.

You said you wouldn't tell him.

You ratted me out right in front of my face?!

I'm going to get squashed by the Grand Priest for sure…

"Grand Priest, yes, there's something rather important—and quite unusual," Whis said, not holding anything back. He proceeded to explain everything about Ken cultivating Divine ki in full detail.

The Grand Priest listened in silence, clearly deep in thought.

"Grand Priest, how is this possible?" Whis asked, puzzled.

"This… is indeed strange," the Grand Priest murmured after a long pause. "But the universe is vast, and all sorts of strange humans can emerge. It's not impossible for one to develop Divine ki."

"Aiya, aiya… and according to a certain fish, a truly great angel will soon be born—and may even surpass you," Whis added.

Oracle Fish: "..."

A certain fish??

You might as well say it was me.

What's the difference?!

"I look forward to that day," the Grand Priest said with a confident smile. "It's been a long time since I've had a worthy rival."

"Then… what do you plan to do about Ken?" Whis asked. "Just so you know, he's currently with Merus."

"Let him continue training. Help him become a true angel," the Grand Priest replied after thinking a moment. "And also, go ahead and teach him the true Ultra Instinct."

"Understood, Grand Priest," Whis agreed.

"By the way… among all the angels, who's the best teacher?" the Grand Priest asked.

"If we're talking pure teaching ability, that would be Sister Kusu," Whis answered.

"For now, don't tell Ken that he has the potential to become a real angel—we don't want him getting arrogant," the Grand Priest said with a gentle smile.

"I understand, Grand Priest," Whis nodded. "Should we send him to Universe 10, to Sister Kusu?"

"Find a way to guide him there naturally. Don't forcefully send him," the Grand Priest advised.

Whis's head throbbed.

That's going to be tough…

Wouldn't it be easier to just send him?

Why go through all this trouble?

"The harder something is to obtain, the more one will cherish it once they do," the Grand Priest said, looking at Whis through the crystal orb on his staff. "If you send him directly to Kusu, he may not appreciate it. He might even waste the opportunity. Besides… he's still a mortal with a limited lifespan—at most 100 years. That's nothing to us angels. Can he truly become one of us in that short time?"

Whis suddenly understood.

"Then… should we let him pursue Sister Kusu himself?" Whis pondered aloud. "But he's still a bit young…"

The Grand Priest: "..."
