"That's right, tell me," Vegeta nodded.
"Please state your wish in the Namekian language," Porunga replied.
Vegeta felt stabbed in the heart all over again.
"Vegeta, didn't I already explain clearly how to become a Super Saiyan?" Ken sighed. "You're really going to waste a wish on this?"
"Hmph! I want to hear it from the dragon himself. Who knows if what you said is even true!" Vegeta snapped back, not buying it.
"You sure? This'll be your only wish," Ken reminded him.
"Hmph! Isn't there still one more wish left?" Vegeta grunted.
"Vegeta, you need to understand something: as a person, never be too greedy. One wish is enough!" Ken said with a wise tone, patting Vegeta's shoulder.
Vegeta: "..."
Grand Elder: "..."
The Namekians present all rolled their eyes nonstop.
Don't be greedy?
Did that seriously come out of your mouth?
Just moments ago, you were trying to summon a genie lamp to get more wishes.
Yep, typical human: strict with others, lenient with themselves.
"Hmph, fine. As long as I get to know how to become a Super Saiyan, I don't need any other wish!" Vegeta finally came around.
As long as he could become a Super Saiyan and stand at the top of the universe…
Why would he need anything else?
He was still young.
It's not like he needed immortality.
Once he became number one in the universe, and his worldview expanded, then he could think about other wishes.
"Alright then, I'll give it to you," Ken nodded. He repeated Vegeta's wish in his less-than-perfect Namekian: "Dragon, please explain in detail about the Super Saiyan. That is our wish."
"Super Saiyans can be categorized into two types: the legendary Super Saiyan, and the ordinary Super Saiyan," Porunga's voice echoed from the sky. "The legendary Super Saiyan is a mighty warrior that appears only once every thousand years, a figure of Saiyan myth. To become one, one must possess the bloodline of the legendary Super Saiyan. Ordinary Saiyans who lack this bloodline cannot become a legendary Super Saiyan."
"Hmph… so you're saying neither I nor Ken have this legendary bloodline?" Vegeta grumbled.
"That is correct," Porunga confirmed.
Vegeta cast a deep glance at Ken and finally felt a bit better inside.
It would've been devastating if the guy next to him turned out to be the legendary Super Saiyan.
But now… who actually was the legendary Super Saiyan?
Could it be… that Kakarot Ken mentioned?
No way. That guy's power level was only 2.
A low-class warrior with a power level of 2… how could he be the legendary Super Saiyan?
…Wait.
Something suddenly clicked in Vegeta's memory.
He vaguely recalled hearing that among those born in his generation, besides this Ken guy, there had been one other extremely gifted warrior.
Someone his father had exiled…
What was his name again?
Could that person be the legendary Super Saiyan?
"Whether it's the legendary kind or the ordinary kind, Super Saiyan is a transformation," Porunga continued. "While you both cannot become legendary Super Saiyans, you can still achieve the transformation into a regular Super Saiyan through training and effort. The transformation boosts one's power by fifty times!"
"What?! Fifty times?!" Nail's face paled instantly.
That brat's Great Ape transformation was already broken as hell.
Now he was hearing that Super Saiyan could multiply power by fifty?
Vegeta: "..."
Vegeta turned to look at Ken.
Ken had already said before that Super Saiyan might be a transformation…
And turns out, he was right again.
"To become a regular Super Saiyan, the first prerequisite is a calm heart," Porunga explained. "A calm heart stimulates the production of S-cells in your body. Once your power level reaches a certain threshold and the S-cells reach saturation, a strong emotional trigger can then allow you to transform into a Super Saiyan."
With that, Porunga concluded: "Your second wish has been granted. Please state your third wish."
"Dragon, we don't have any more wishes. Thank you!" Ken smiled. "In life, you shouldn't be too greedy… though I was thinking about asking for a hundred more wishes earlier."
Porunga: "..."
"Very well then… Farewell," Porunga said, and in the next moment, his giant dragon form faded away.
Whoosh!
The seven Dragon Balls soared into the sky.
Then, having reached a certain height, they suddenly fell back down at high speed.
Clack, clack, clack!
All seven landed beside Ken, now turned into stone.
The sky returned to normal.
Ken had heard that Namek's Dragon Balls, after granting wishes, didn't scatter across the planet. They just gathered together.
Earth's Dragon Balls used to stay together too—until the Earth's Kami split them up out of fear of human greed.
The Grand Elder looked at Ken with a mixture of surprise and admiration.
This kid might have a sharp tongue, but he was honestly quite admirable.
He gave up the last wish without hesitation.
That was something few people could do.
Porunga had said one needed a calm heart to become a Super Saiyan… and in the Grand Elder's view, Ken clearly already possessed one.
As for their Saiyan prince… he still had a bit of a temper and needed some polishing.
"You seriously don't want the third wish?" Vegeta was stunned. He turned to Ken in disbelief.
Ken looked totally unfazed.
His greatest wish was to gain the ability to survive in space.
Once that weakness was patched up, everything else in life became way easier.
As for immortality or eternal youth? Ken figured… the Namekian dragon probably couldn't grant those anyway.
Besides, once he trained to become a true Angel, his lifespan would be eternal.
That kind of stuff wouldn't be a problem.
"Grand Elder, Elder Moori, everyone—thank you for everything, but it's time for us to go," Ken smiled and waved goodbye to the Namekians.
"Of course. Come visit us again!" Moori said warmly, shaking Ken's hand.
"Definitely," Ken nodded. Then he asked, "How long until the Dragon Balls reset?"
Moori suddenly didn't feel like answering.
What, was one leftover wish not enough for you?
"Ahem… since one wish was unused, it'll take about 80 days for the Dragon Balls to recharge," the Grand Elder said, silently wiping sweat from his forehead.
"I'll be back," Ken said with a wave.
Grand Elder: "..."
With that, Ken and Vegeta boarded their spaceship and prepared for departure.
The ship lifted off.
Whoosh!
It broke through the atmosphere, trailing a bright streak of light as it disappeared into the vast expanse of space.
The Grand Elder watched the sky in silence, deep in thought.
