Kross stood with Axel, their voices low as they talked
"Double the guard near the eastern border," Kross said. "Have you found the King's spy?."
Axel gave a short nod. "Not yet. The last trail we got turned out to be a misinformation but..."
He stopped mid-sentence. Someone was approaching. The steps were light but still too heavy for shifters with superb hearing who were also trained warriors.
Sena came into view. Her eyes settled on Kross.
Axel glanced at them, noticing the shift in the air, the unspoken urgency in Sena's eyes. Without a word, he stepped back and walked off, leaving the two of them alone.
Kross didn't speak. He waited.
Sena drew in a slow breath, as if steadying herself. She opened her mouth, paused, then looked directly into his eyes. Whatever it was she had to say, it wasn't something light or ordinary.
