Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

"He doesn't hate you anymore I think."

I sighed.

"He doesn't, I was the first person he called after bringing you here."

"I don't think I have ever seen him that distraught as much as he was today... He was ready to kill himself if that meant to bring you back all healthy."

I looked at Luca, not being able to believe his words.

"That's because he doesn't know I'm his sister, once he does, I don't think he will treat me like that anymore, if might blame me, or can possibly hand me over to police for impersonating his sister."

"Don't say that!"

"But that's the truth! Isn't it? Nothing can change the actual facts happening in this life anymore."

"Stop overthinking Laurel, everything is going to be fine."

He tried coaxing me.

"Did you see the pictures?" He nodded, and my face fell.

"You saw what was in them right? Someone was following us, and or maybe it was Franklin."

I said my suspicions out to him.

"Franklin?" He got confused at the name.

"You mean that, guy who protects the female lead from the villainess?"

He processed each word before speaking.

"Hmm I am talking about that Franklin! When I had came here, in this world, the family who had saved me was none other than Franklin's, that was how I had found out that I had been reincarnated in a novel."

"When I followed him out of the building, his hood had came off and I was successful in looking at his face, I am 100% sure that it was Franklin."

"Who Franklin?"

The door opened revealing, Kalix.

At first both me and Luca were scared, afraid that he might've heard our each and every word, but thankfully he had only heard his name.

"Do you remember I had told you about the family who had saved me? One of their sons were named Franklin."

As I explained, I could see the colours draining from his face.

"So...what about him?" He felt quite cautious while asking that question.

"Kalix... that day, when we went to that farmhouse, the man Laurel saw, she thinks it was him."

His eyes widened, and his shoulders slumped in fear.

"Are you... sure?" His voice was filled with another kind of fear and when I nodded he didn't wait for a second before leaving the room.

"Kalix!"

I screamed his name, hoping he would come back, I don't know what he is going to do, will he dig him down, what would he do? But...wait...does.. Franklin know I'm Sarah?

Why...why didn't I think of it before, then...could it be...that he... has a hand behind...my transmigration in this world?

He...he is the one who added other characters, scenes in the novel.

I... need to search him.

But what if, what if Kalix finds him and he tells Kalix, about me being a clone laurel.

I would die.

No, it can't be.

The monitors that were attached to my body began beeping loudly, I gasped, my nails dug in the white bedsheet.

Tears burning my eyes and within a blink of an eye, I was in arms, of Luca, his arms wrapped tight around me, holding me close to himself.

"Breathe Laurel, come on, just like you always do, shh, calm down, deep breathes!"

He was whispering in my ears while my head was against his chest, my heart began beating normally, the beeping of the machine lowering from their hastened pace.

I took a final deep breath, and separated myself from him.

"Better?"

"Hmm" I nodded.

"Good!... Don't you think Laurel, these... Panic attacks you...get them quite often?"

Lucas's words were somewhat personal, but I bit my lips, because this was true.

"Hmm I do." I accepted it, there was no need to run away from the truth.

"Even before?" He asked once again.

"Hmm" I nodded.

This time he didn't say or questioned anything just wrapped his arms around me tightening his hold over me, bringing me as close to him as he could.

"You take some rest, I'll go call the doctor the sudden fluctuation in blood pressure might be harmful, and I'll also try calling Kalix, god knows where he went."

Luca sighed and went out of the room, leaving me alone.

I was sitting alone in the whole room, white surrounding me from everywhere.

Wherever I looked only white was visible.

After sometime, Luca was also back with the doctor, she was quite furious, about my panic attack but still explained me about my health softly.

It was a clear warning, that it's not good if this keeps happening.

But what could I have said, this was normal for me, even before and even now.

I was a doctor yet I didn't even know that I was having panic attacks all these years.

Luca had stayed with me the whole time, taking care of my everything, whether it was feeding me food, combing my hair, or holding my hand when the doctor changed my forehead bandage.

According to Luca, Kalix was not answering his calls, so he thought he should let him be, he might come back after sometime.

Luca was there with me, however Kalix had returned from wherever he had went to, late at night when I was trying to sleep, and Luca was there on the couch, working on his laptop.

The door slowly opened, revealing Kalix is dishevelled state with some paper bags in his hands, Luca quickly got up, walking upto him.

He had changed his clothes, but he still looked like as if he had gotten in a big fight, the burst skin on the side of lip, made it clear.

"What happened to you Kalix!"

I was worried looking at his condition ad tried to get up from the bed but the wires and IV attached to my body restricted me from doing so.

"I'm fine, stay put!"

He ordered, walking past Luca and kept the bags on the table.

"Don't worry too much, I talked with a doctor, she said that you shouldn't be stressed at all."

He said while taking out a plastic box, a takeaway box.

"I brought some food for you both!"

He was oddly quiet, nor there was a smile on his face, nor did he looked normal from any angle.

"Kalix! You don't...look fine!"

Kalix scoffed.

"I'm fine Laurie, I'm totally fine, it's nothing so please don't worry too much, stress is not good for you!"

He caressed my head and opened the box, and began feeding me by his hands.

"Even though we look almost the same, I sometimes kind of forget, that your features are almost 95% similar to mom."

He was admiring me, his eyes were red, I didn't know what had happened in between these hours.

While he was feeding me, I had seen the bruise on his knuckles.

I had no idea, not even in the slightest what had happened, but he had fought, I knew this much.

I had realised that even if I keep insisting he wouldn't tell me a thing.

After I had finished my food, Kalix tucked me in the bed, and walked to the couch, where Luca was already sitting.

"Luca...you can go... I'll stay with Laurel."

He said to Luca, and instead of saying anything directly, Luca remained calm.

"Kalix, it's fine, I can stay here...you should go and take rest."

I was laying down on the bed, almost asleep but could hear them whispering to each other.

"I can hear you both, just stop talking, both of you stay with me, one can rest and the other can be awake and then vice versa! Now please shut it!"

My eyes were burning alot, maybe it was because of the medicines I was being given.

However, I had fallen asleep with both of them in the room.

I was discharged after two days, in these two days, Cecily had visited, with Cassian and Ayla, she used to stay for hours.

Keeping my whole attention on Ayla, maybe Kalix had told her what the doctor said about me, either way I was having a good time with them.

But I had noticed one thing, Cassian's hand had a similar bruise on his knuckles, the one I had noticed on Kalix's hand.

And the three of them, were acting really weird, none of them had talked to eachother, it was either me or Luca talking, or if Cecily would talk while showing me Ayla.

Luca had also informed Xavier about me, so he had came to visit me, and this time, thankfully he had not said a word about me looking for a wife for him.

Maybe it was out formality, since I was admitted or maybe it was because of the constant glare Luca had been giving him, whenever he would start laughing, trying to say something.

It was Luca.

I know him.
