Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Intense Battle, Part (2)

This scene truly shocked the two of them!

They had known that Redfield was stronger than them, but not by how much. Now, they finally understood just how vast the difference really was.

Every attack they threw out had already been seen through by their opponent. Nothing they did could affect him in the slightest.

A deep sense of helplessness rose in their hearts, as if they were kindergarten kids foolishly picking a fight with a grown man.

And once that fear seeped in, defeat wasn't far behind.

Sure enough, their offense soon became pale and sluggish.

Redfield, too, sensed their change in attitude. The little spark of battle intent he had just felt quickly faded away.

The light in his eyes dimmed again, returning to that familiar indifference.

"If that's the best you've got, then it's time to end this."

With a flick of his wrist, he twirled his blade, Raigetsu, into a brilliant sword flourish.

Sword shadows shimmered in the air, cold and real enough to chill the soul. It felt like even brushing against them would mean instant death.

His previously half-closed eyes suddenly snapped open.

A violent surge of killing intent erupted from him, engulfing both Kaku and Kumadori, sending chills straight to their souls.

Large beads of sweat slid down their foreheads. What they felt now was no longer danger or fear, it was the breath of death itself!

Being locked under this aura was suffocating.

Unconsciously, both men took several steps back, they didn't want to die.

But in that moment of life and death, their survival instinct flared again, like a final burst of fire before the candle went out.

"Kumadori! Either way we're dead. Dare to gamble everything with me? If we don't die, we better peel this old bastard's skin off!"

"Why wouldn't I dare! I, Kumadori, have faced all kinds of battles. Today, let's decide life or death!"

Redfield's blade darkened, his body became wreathed in a black cyclone.

Armament Haki!

Their eyes narrowed sharply. They knew this was their final chance, if they didn't strike now, they'd never get another.

"Shave!"

Whoosh!

Two sharp sonic booms echoed through the air!

Kumadori and Kaku split off left and right, launching a coordinated pincer attack on Redfield.

Kaku struck first: "Tempest Kick: Storm!"

His legs blurred, unleashing dozens of slashes in a storm-like flurry, sweeping toward Redfield like a torrential downpour.

Redfield dodged and blocked at a relaxed pace, dismantling the entire attack with ease.

But at that very moment, he was caught in a crucial transition between techniques. His old momentum gone, new power not yet gathered.

That single fleeting instant was enough.

"Life Return: Hair Bind!" Kumadori shouted.

His writhing hair surged wildly, wrapping around Redfield's body!

This time, unlike before, the timing was perfect. His hair bound Redfield tightly, pinning him in place.

Meanwhile, Kaku had already shifted into his Giraffe Zoan hybrid form, and unleashed an all-out, no-holds-barred attack!

"Demon Bamboo Grove, AHHHH!!"

He roared, putting every ounce of strength into his long, powerful neck as he smashed it down with ferocity.

This strike was on a completely different level from before.

Last time, Kumadori hadn't fully restrained Redfield, and Kaku had held back to avoid friendly fire. But this time was different.

Kumadori had pushed himself to the limit and completely bound Redfield, and Kaku had cast aside all hesitation, smashing down with full power, ignoring whether he'd hurt his ally in the process.

It was a last-ditch effort.

Kumadori felt no resentment toward Kaku's reckless strike. He knew, if they didn't go all in, they had zero chance of defeating Redfield.

"Iron Body: Steel!"

He immediately activated Iron Body to protect himself from the random strikes falling on him.

But even with that, the sheer strength of a Zoan user's physical power was overwhelming.

Within moments, Kumadori was seeing stars, half his life gone.

At the same time, Kaku's barrage came to an end.

He had poured everything he had into that one attack. His legs trembled, no longer able to hold him up.

Bang!

He reverted to his human form and collapsed on the ground.

The entire room was filled with thick dust, like a sandstorm had swept through. Visibility was zero.

A long time passed before the dust slowly settled, and the air began to clear.

Kaku sat up and looked into the distance. On the ground not far away, a massive crater filled with spiderweb-like cracks had formed.

He followed the fractures with his eyes, peering into the pit.

Amidst the fading dust, two vague figures came into view.

One standing, one lying down.

"Did… did we get him?" Kaku muttered with a frown. Something felt off, almost too smooth.

Sure enough, in the next second, the figure in the dust moved!

A flash of cold steel caught the light.

That thin figure held a katana in his hand. Who else could it be but Redfield?

Kaku's pupils contracted. "Impossible! How…?!"

As Redfield approached, Kaku could finally see clearly.

Redfield's expression was calm. His entire body was wrapped in pitch-black Haki, and he held Raigetsu like a silent god of death, calmly walking forward.

"How… how is he completely unharmed? That's impossible!" Kaku shouted in disbelief, his voice cracking.

He stared at the unconscious Kumadori beside him, on the brink of mental collapse.

How could anyone be this powerful?

He had clearly landed a direct hit, he felt it!

And yet, Redfield now advanced with not a scratch on him.

The despair was overwhelming.

Even so, fear of death made Kaku instinctively fight back one last time.

"Iron Body: No Blind Spot!"

His body folded and twisted into a cube-like block, his strongest defensive form.

It looked ridiculous, like a human Rubik's cube.

He hoped this last-ditch defense might spare his life.

But it was futile.

Redfield's strike was infused with Armament Haki, how could mere Iron Body techniques possibly block it?

Even solid metal wouldn't stand a chance!

Redfield stepped in close. No flair, no flourish, just a simple downward slash.

To Kaku, however, that slash was terrifying beyond words.

It was as if even the space around him had frozen. Time stood still. The light in his eyes vanished, leaving only an endless black void.

"So… this is the end?" Kaku felt no fear anymore. No panic. No despair.

As the blade approached, what surfaced instead… was a strange peace.

He even smiled faintly.

Redfield's figure passed by.

Raigetsu's blade dripped with clean water, as if it had just been rinsed. The metallic scent of blood washed away, leaving the sword gleaming once more.

As he sheathed his sword, Redfield calmly left the room. Time and age seemed to have no hold on him.

Even in his twilight years, his back remained tall, his strength, unquestioned.

And so,

In the Battle of Enies Lobby, CP9's top two agents, Kaku and Kumadori, were utterly defeated.
