Chapter 35 - Street of Luxury

My mouth dropped wide open as I stood on the largest and most expensive street that existed in the entire country. My eyes shone at the exquisite stores, luxury shops, and food courts, which were swarmed by not just any people, but loaded ones. People like me only heard stories about the existence of such streets, and standing on one such street was nearly a miracle to me. It was like all the luxury from the universe came down to make a street its home.

"What is this place? What are we doing here?" I asked Mr. Wolfe without taking my eyes off the stores.

When I was preparing myself to talk to him about my wish of meeting Matthew, he dragged me out of the villa and introduced me to the heaven of luxury.

We traveled two hours in his private plane and again an hour in the car to arrive. When I thought sitting in a private plane would remain the biggest wonder in my life, the street of luxury overthrew it.

"You said you wanted to shop." His voice was very normal with no hint of excitement at seeing such a place. Of course, he was the great Wolfe. Private planes and luxury streets were a normal thing to him.

"I never saw such a place." I looked around, studying the people. "No one here looks like normal. They truly look filthy rich."

"They are."

I looked at him with my questioning eyes. Before I got a glimpse of him smiling, his face was covered with the mask of seriousness again.

He said, enlightening me with new things, "People like us very rarely go to where everyone usually goes. We have our separate world. One such world is 'streets of luxury'."

My eyes widened as I heard him. Rich really did have their own world.

He continued, "Even though everything comes at us, sometimes we'd also like to go out or spend some time doing silly things for others." His gaze fell on me, and he crossed his arms as he said, "like shopping."

I remembered I mentioned wanting to go out for shopping and buy heels and other such things. However, he already left the heels and a handbag the other day, which I didn't even use, as every time I looked at them, I only remembered Matthew and how he yelled at me for not keeping up my promise.

"But Mr. Wolfe…"

All of a sudden, his rough fingers intertwined with mine, sending a jolt to my body while a faint blush hit my cheeks, stopping me from saying another word.

He took me to one of the stores and said, "Buy everything that makes you smile."

Strangely, not the luxury that surrounded me, but the words of the person standing in front of me made me smile. I looked around, and my gaze fell on a diamond necklace with a medium-sized ruby at the center of it.

My lips parted in surprise when I realized I was truly trailing my fingers on such an expensive necklace. It felt like my unworthy fingers would leave dirt on the red beauty when I touched it.

His breath brushed the side of my cheek as he stood behind me and said, "You love it?"

I had always known he was a dangerous person, but I never thought he even had the devil's charm to lure me into his world willingly and make me forget the place I belonged to.

Taking a deep breath, I remembered my life before him and how it would be after him. Whatever we both had was purely a business relationship, and I knew better than to accept any expensive gifts from him.

I turned around to look at him and asked, "Mr. Wolfe! Why did you bring me here?"

He narrowed his eyebrows and looked at me confused for a second before he answered, "You said you wanted to go for shopping…"

I cut him off. "I said I wanted to buy heels and a handbag, which you already left on my bed. I don't see any reason for us being here."

He stood frozen for a moment before his eyes started to turn dark. I could see his jaw clenching while he took a step back from me to keep some distance.

"Mr. Wolfe! It was foolish of me to think about spending your money. In our contract, it is not mentioned that I have any kind of privilege to spend your money for unnecessary things."

I shut my eyes for a moment, recalling everything that had happened from the day I met him and how he treated me. More than that, how my relationship with Matthew was falling apart because of him infuriated me.

"If those heels, bag, and now these luxurious items are your gifts for me, then I am sorry. I can't accept them. If you are doing this because you want the woman who's serving you to not look cheap in her basic clothes and shoes, then I'll have no choice but to accept, just like how I accepted all other items at the villa."

There was a hint of fury and hurt in his eyes, which in an instant faded. He simply nodded his head, saying, "You are right. I loathe cheap things around me. I want everything around me to be luxurious, including the person who satisfies me in the nights. I don't want any single glimpse of that worker who worked at nightclubs."

It hurt me more than I anticipated. I swallowed down my emotions as I spoke, "In that case, Mr. Wolfe, I am already wearing the designer clothes, branded items, and diamond necklaces that you bought me earlier. I already have enough of them, so I think we can leave."

"Right." He again stood closer to me and said in a low tone, "But babygirl, we won't leave just because you said so. Remember, everything goes according to me. I am tired of seeing you in those clothes, so we are here to buy some more."

His authoritative tone returned. "We will only leave when I say we are fucking leaving. Until then, keep quiet and follow me."

He then made me try weird dresses, which they called newly launched designer dresses. Even though there was no need, he picked whatever his fingers touched and bought it only to show me who the superior was.

It was already midnight when we reached our city. The entire drive was so silent, as neither of us spoke. All the time, I only thought about the way to bring up Matthew's topic without violating any clauses.

Finally, I mustered up the courage and said, even though my entire body shivered, "I want to visit Matthew tomorrow."

And the car was halted abruptly.
