As soon as I heard that Saph is conscious and asking to see me I quickly tried to get off from the hospital bed, but Tobias gently put his hands on my shoulder to push me back down. "Wow there! Slow down. There is no need to hurry. You are not fully healed yet and you will only make your injuries worse if you suddenly move like that" he explains. I lay back on the bed with a sigh. He is right I will only reopen my wounds, and furthermore Saph will get angry at me if I get injured just so that I can see her.
Once I calmed down, I got out of bed but slowly this time, making sure not to aggravate any of my healing injuries. Tobias had his has out stretch to assist me, but Dr. Anthony beat him to it. The doctor helps me to get up from the hospital bed safely by putting his hands under my arm and gently supporting me as I stood up. Only when he was sure that I can stand stably on my own did he let go of me.
"Can you walk now?" the doctor asks me, and I just nodded. "Good I will take you to Miss Evans's room" he informs me while holding the door open for me. I took a slow step forward making sure I don't stumble. Once I was strong enough to walk properly, I walk out of the room with Tobias following behind me. We walked through a hallway that was crowded with patients, nurse, and visitors bustling around then we turn right into another hallway but this time we stopped at the third door on our right.
"This is Miss Evans's room" Doctor Anthony says gesturing to room number 205. I turn behind me to look at Tobias about to ask him if I could talk to Saph alone first, but he beat me to it. "Go ahead I will talk to her after you are done" he says with sincere smile. I thanked him then turn around putting my hands on the door handle then push it down thus opening the door.
I look inside the room first making sure Saph is awake before entering the room and closing the door on my way in. "You're okay! Thank God" Saph says with relief in her tone just as the door closed with a click. I look towards her. There she is lying on the hospital bed with wires that connects from her body to the machine, and I could hear the heart monitor beeping echoing around the room.
I look at her incredulously. "You're the one stuck on the hospital bed covered in wires and you're worrying about me" I say jokingly but I am relieve that she is out of danger and will make a full recovery. She manages to grin at me. "Of course, I worry about you. You can hardly take care of yourself" she says jokingly with a small chuckle.
I made a dramatic gasp. "I so know how to take care of myself for your information" I retorted back to her then we ended up laughing until Saph gasps in pain. I am by her side in an instant about to press the button to call for help, but Saph stops me. "Don't make me laugh so hard my ribs hurt" she moans and chuckle at the same time. I relax and chuckle also.
This is the Saph I always remember since high school constantly trying to make me laugh whenever I am going through sadness and making me smile even though I was really heart broken when my parents were fighting about something in front of me. I look at her seriously now and questioned her. "Are you sure you're okay and you don't need me to call a doctor for you?"
She sighs. "I'm fine right now aside from all this wires that is connect to me so you don't need to worry about me so much, besides I will be able to get out of here in less than two weeks" she says in her soothing voice trying to convince me that she is fine. I am still not convinced but I let it go because I can see the look on her face that says we will not discuss this further, so I decided to change the topic.
"I wonder what your boss will think about your absence" wondering if she still even has the job. Her face turns to one of horror as she must have just realized it herself. "Oh My God! What am I going to do! Our disappearance didn't enter the news, right? Oh, I am so screwed. He is so going to kill me. I am so fired from my job when I get back" she panicked looking around for something. "Wow! Calm down" I told her holding her shoulder so that she lies back on the bed and made sure she is comfortable.
"Deep breaths" I told her, and she closed her eyes and then took a deep breath through her nose and let it out through her mouth. Then she opens her eyes. Now she looks calmer than before, so I continued. "It's okay I'm sure he'll understand when I ask the hospital to call the office and tell them why you were absent and that it was not intentional on your part. Okay?" I tried to reassure her.
She didn't look convinced and tried to argue with me so I cut her off and just said "you need your rest right now to recover properly so leave handling the issue with your job to me and I will take care of it. Don't worry I don't think you will lose your job".
She still didn't look convinced, but she let it go seeing as I can be just as stubborn as she is and there is no point arguing with me. "Well, that's one less thing to worry about" Saph says tiredly her eyes drooping a little bit. Immediately I ask her "do you need anything?" She just smiles at me weakly and looked like she was about to say something, but she passes out before she could say anything.
I am on a full panic mode when I saw that she passed out, but I remembered to press the button beside the bed to call for the nurse. After I press the button beside her bed, I waited for what felt like a long time but was less than three minutes before a doctor came in. It was not Dr. Anthony that came in but some other doctor that is older than Dr. Anthony.
The doctor comes in after opening the door and looks at me with a friendly smile. But when he sees my panic expression and he ask me "What happened? What can I help you with?" I told the doctor about how Saph suddenly passed out when we were in the middle of a conversation.
He calmly walks to where Saph is laying and did some test on Saph like checking her pulse, heartbeat and other normal checkup. After he is done, he looks up at me and said "there is nothing to worry about, she is fine just tired. Her brain needs to rest so it shut itself down. She will wake in about a day". After he explained that nothing is wrong with Saph I let out a sigh of relief. "She needs her rest now, so I recommend not to disturb her until she wakes up on her own" the doctor explains further with a calming smile.
I just nodded and said, "thank you doctor". He smiles at me again then walks in the direction of the door but pause before he went out. He turns around and says, "if there is any problems don't hesitate to press the button to call for help". I didn't know what to say so I nodded again with what I hope was a friendly smile. With that he walks out of the room closing the door quietly behind him. I am alone with Saph once more. I am wondering what to do when I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in" I say to whoever was knocking on the door. The door slowly opens to reveal Tobias sticking his head from behind the door and asking me whether he is disturbing anything. "You're not disturbing anything. I was just wondering what to do so you came at the right time" I answered him while gesturing with my hands for him to come inside the room.
He enters the room quietly and closing the door as slowly as he can. "I just wanted to make sure everything was okay. I was worried something happened when the doctor was called" he explains in a worried tone while looking down at Saph who is unconscious on the bed with mixed emotion on his face.
I could not really tell what he is feeling about seeing his ex-girlfriend again after all these years and unconscious at the hospital at that. The only thing I can tell is that he is genuinely worried about her. "She's just fine. Her body was tired, so it shut itself off to rest. Nothing to worry about as she will regain consciousness in about a day" I reassured him.
His shoulders lose some of the tension and he relaxes a bit. "That's good news. Well, since I can't speak with Miss Evans today then I must go back to report about this case to the station now. See you again sometime" he says waving a goodbye at me. "Bye! See you again too" I say to him, and I made a promise with myself to get Saph and Tobias to meet each other and have a talk. Maybe he can help with Saph's stress that she is going through right now.
I watch until he closes the door before looking down at Saph on the bed and told her "You are so going to have a talk with him soon." Even though I know she can't hear me. I then started to feel tired as well, after everything that has happened just after I woke up from my coma, so I bid Saph goodbye and walk out of the room closing the door quietly behind me.
I walk down the hallway until I spotted Doctor Anthony at the registration desk talking to a nurse. I walk over to him and was about to call him, but he must have seen me coming because he turns in my direction and ask "Ah! Miss Collins, what can I do for you?". "May I know where my room is? I forgot to check my room number just now." I say sheepishly.
He grins and says in a joking manner. "I understand. You could not pay attention to your surrounding when I took you to Miss Evans's room because you were too worried about your friend. Right?". I just nodded my head shyly at him. As I'm embarrassed for not paying attention to my surrounding when I'm worried about something. This is my bad habit that I need to correct.
"Sorry" I apologies but he just laughs and says, "it's okay, I just finish my rounds for the day.". "Thank you" I said to him gratefully, he just smiles and says, "it is nothing". With that he walk first with me following closely behind him. We made small talk on our way to my room about random stuffs that happened while I was unconscious before I knew it, we were standing in front of room 405.
"This is your room. I will take my leave now but if you need anything just press the button beside your bed and a nurse will come to assists you as soon as possible" he explains. I nodded and thanked him again, but he jokingly brushes it off. Once he was out of sight, I open the door and entered the room. I close the door behind me and then walk to the bed and laid down to rest too tired to do anything else but sleep.
