Chapter 8 - Visiting Ava

7

KAI

I walked with Noah towards Ava's house. It was a cold day. It smelt of rain and dirt, as it was raining 2 hours ago before I came here. The birds were chirping, and the sun was also out, but it wasn't so warm, so I had also worn my jacket with black-coloured clothes and tight black shoes.

I wanted to meet Ava. I had been missing her even if it was just 1 week since I last saw her. But still I missed her. I miss her smile. I missed her talks. I missed everything about her. She was the only one I missed and loved so much. She was the only constant in my fucked-up life.

I walked when suddenly I felt like someone was watching me through the window. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, so I let it go, but I again felt like someone was watching me. I am a CEO. That's why I had sharp senses and was always aware of my surroundings. I felt eyes on my back, so I looked up, and oh no. Oh no.

It was Evelyn.

She was standing behind the window peering through the curtains of her home. Her home was 2 streets apart from Ava's home. I was not in my car, as I wanted to walk for some time, and my car was with my driver, who had taken it back to my home.

"Who is she, sir?" Noah asked.

I stared at the window and then at Noah and shook my head, "No one special."

I again glanced at the window and made eye contact with Evelyn while she ran, blushing, and hid under the blanket. I didn't know why, but I smiled. It was cute seeing her like this, all flustered, like she had been caught doing something she wasn't supposed to do. I shook my thoughts away. It was wrong; I shouldn't think like this.

She was a distraction. A beautiful, sweet distraction.

But distraction, nonetheless.

I just stared at the window. I didn't know why, but I just started thinking about having another glance at her.

"Sir, we should move." Noah said, trying to hold a smile.

I nodded and was out of my trance and blushed. A rare sight for me, but I blushed and then quickly went towards Ava's house. I reached Ava's house and knocked on her door.

"Who's there?" Ava asked.

"Me, princess." I said, and after some time she opened the door, and I went inside and hugged her and kissed her head in a brotherly way.

"I missed you so fucking much, princess."

"I missed you too, brother."

I walked in and then went and sat on the couch. While Noah went in and went to the guest room where he will stay, I trusted him. I trust him more than anyone else, and that's why he used to come to Ava's home with me. Her house was big. It wasn't an apartment but rather a house with two floors. I had made it for her, but she had decorated all of the house.

My house was a 1-hour drive from here. She wanted to live alone where no one knows that she is my sister. Not because she doesn't like me as a brother but because she doesn't want attention on her.

In contrast to my house, she had decorated her house with full attention, and that's why it was very beautiful. There was a whole library on the first floor also, where there were many books. Mystery, romance, horror, thriller, and even dark romance books, which she hid at the farthest corner, but I had known every single book present there. There were also many self-help books on the table.

In the dining room, there was a huge table with chairs around it where she had many parties with her friends. If there was a large party at her house, she would call a maid the next day, but mostly she took care of the home herself.

In the living room, there was a large TV with a couch which was very big, like for a whole family, even if she lived alone. And there was also a PS5 attached, on which she liked playing games.

Her room was also very beautiful and was on the 2nd floor above and was all in the pink colour and had teddy bears in it.

It was opposite my house, where there was everything black and only black.

I also had a room in her house, like she had one in my house, so if we want to spend the night at each other's house, we can.

We sat on the couch and started talking about different things. I had seen her distracted many times, and I knew her too well and knew when she felt what.

"Princess, you can tell me anything, alright?"

She nodded and then said, "There is nothing I am hiding, brother."

"Are you sure, princess?" She nodded, so I had no option but to let it go.

We talked for some time, and then she went to make dinner. I had many times told her that I will appoint a servant for her, but she never wants a servant or even a guard. She says it destroys her privacy. So I had no option but to let it go.

"Princess. I am saying it again. I can hire a servant for you. I don't like you working and tiring yourself so much." I said, moving towards the kitchen.

"And I have told you a million times that I don't want a servant."

"Why?"

"Because I want my own privacy." I saw her rolling her eyes because she had told me this thousands of times.

"It's not about privacy. It's about not overworking yourself."

"Brother. Please. Privacy is more important to me than convenience."

I shook my head, finally losing the argument, and then said, "You are so stubborn."

"Like you."

I smiled. She was so sarcastic, and no matter what she said, I liked her sarcasm. It made me smile on my own.

After some time she came from the kitchen carrying a plate of salad for me and chicken for herself. She put it on the dining table, and then we both sat there. She sat putting her legs on the chair beneath herself comfortably, while I, in contrast to her, was sitting professionally with my feet on the floor and a handkerchief on my lap.

I held the knife and fork and started eating the salad.

"Eww, brother. You should try the chicken at least. You will not become fat. And maybe you will even like the chicken."

I looked at her and smiled and said, "Hmm, I maybe like the chicken, but still I like more what I like, and I like salads. And besides, dieting is important."

She rolled her eyes but then started eating her chicken.

"Anything else, princess?" I said after some time. I was the one person she trusted the most. So if she ever wanted to talk about anything, she would tell me first.

"Hmm... You know my friend Evelyn. She is so nice, but like, she misses her parents. You know her mom is always ill and dad is always working. They love her, but still they are always busy. She was 16 when she last talked with them. She hasn't even called them since then, as they are always busy." She said sadly.

I became sad thinking about it. My parents… well, I don't want to think about them. But I know parents are very important, but if they are lovely parents, not abusive, like...no, don't go there.

"Oh, but she can go there na."

"No, she has to study and then there are transport fees and all that. Her parents live far away in a village, and she lives in a city. If she goes there, she will have to pay a transport fee, and she doesn't have so much money yet."

"Oh." I nodded and was sad for her but can't do anything.

"And Evelyn… she is so sweet, cute and innocent. She also sometimes smiles fake."

"Like you…and me?" 'I said', looking up at her sadly with a sad smile.

She was shocked and looked at me for a moment and then finally nodded.

"Hmm. Just like us. That's why she is my friend. We know that we both have many secrets, and we both know that we don't want to tell them. That's why we don't pressurise each other. She is the best friend I can ever wish for."

I nodded and was lost again in my thoughts, thinking about her damn face. The way she had looked at me, the way she blushed, the way she had hidden under the blanket. All the damn things about her. I remember it.

No, I can't think like that. I can't afford a distraction.

"Brother, I will go to the kitchen to clean these dishes, and you can just read some books or whatever you want to do."

I nodded, and she took the dishes to the kitchen while I went to the library, which was built in the home. I went in and started looking at all the books. There were many novels also and some dirty romance novels or dark books like "Lights Out" by Navessa Allen. I had not read it, but I had heard about it, but this was about me and Ava. We never judged each other's choices. And that's why we were so comfortable with each other. I knew she read these dirty dark romance books, but I don't mind, and I don't talk about it. I just act like I don't see them here.

I picked up a mystery book and went and sat and started reading all the things but didn't like it and again put it back. I had no hobbies, and I didn't like doing anything. I always think that I am just made to do the business, and I don't do anything else except it. No distractions, nothing.

She came back after 1 hour, and she talked mainly, and I just listened. We didn't know when, but the day had finished and it was night. I lay in my bed, turning sides, but I had many things in mind.

I was thinking about the secret Ava might be hiding, about my parents, about the numbers and many things.

And yes, about her too. Evelyn.

No matter how much I stop myself. I can't help but think about her. The way she had smiled. The way she had blushed and hid under the blanket. All the damn things.

And these were the last thoughts before I drifted back to sleep.
