Chapter 37 - a threat

Two months passed. Time ticked by quickly, counting down to Naufal's wedding day with Sinta. A joyful atmosphere enveloped the family, but the shadow of a threat still loomed over Naufal. That night, a phone call shattered his peace.

"Hello... Inspector Naufal. How are you? I see you're busy preparing for your wedding with that beautiful two-star general's daughter," a woman's voice on the other end sounded cold and enigmatic. A voice Naufal recognized very well, even though he tried hard to forget it.

Naufal frowned. He knew that voice. Maya. The target his team at the Narcotics Unit was hunting, a cunning and dangerous drug lord. "What do you want, Maya?" he asked, his tone firm, trying to hide his surprise.

"How do you recognize my voice so well, Commander? Does my voice make you miss me?" Maya chuckled softly, a piercing laugh. Naufal felt goosebumps rise on his skin.

"I may not have a clear lead on how you managed to contact me, but I assure you, I will find you soon!" Naufal retorted loudly, defiantly. This game had to end immediately. He wouldn't let Maya get away so easily.

"Better follow my advice and request a transfer. Don't stay in the Narcotics Unit. Don't deal with me anymore. Otherwise, your wife will become a victim. It would be a shame if a new replacement had to end tragically. Think it over carefully. Submit your transfer request after your wedding party," Maya's warning was sharp, her threat real, hinting at the danger lurking for Sinta. Then, the line went dead.

Naufal leaned his head back on the sofa, his mind in turmoil. Maya, a cunning and dangerous drug dealer, was threatening him. Her threat wasn't just an empty one. He had to be careful, very careful. This wasn't just about him, but also about Sinta and her family.

Footsteps sounded from the door. Revan and Kevin, Naufal's two maternal uncles, entered. They had deliberately returned to their hometown to attend Naufal's wedding. Their presence slightly eased the tension.

"What's wrong?" Revan asked, seeing Naufal's gloomy face. Kevin nodded, also paying attention to his nephew.

Naufal looked at his two uncles. They had just come from the children's play center with Akhzam, their beloved nephew.

Akhzam ran to Naufal and immediately sat on his lap. "Brother, Papa Kevin and Papi Revan bought me toys, lots of them," Akhzam reported, proudly showing off his toys. Akhzam's innocence seemed to be a balm in the midst of the storm raging within Naufal.

Naufal smiled, trying to banish the shadows of the threat. He hugged Akhzam tightly. "Thank you, Uncle Revan, Uncle Kevin," he said, his voice calmer.

"It's no problem, kid," Revan replied, ruffling Akhzam's hair. "The important thing is that you're happy. Your wedding is only two days away."

"But..." Naufal hesitated to tell them about Maya's threat. He was afraid of worrying his uncles, but he couldn't hide it any longer.

Kevin observed Naufal's still tense face. "Are you hiding something, son?" he asked gently.

Naufal sighed deeply. He told them everything, from the mysterious phone call to Maya's threat, including Maya's identity as his team's target in the Narcotics Unit. He could no longer hide his anxiety.

Revan and Kevin listened seriously. They exchanged glances, their faces showing concern. "We have to be careful," Revan said. "This threat cannot be taken lightly."

"I will increase security," Naufal said. "I won't let anything happen to Sinta and her family."

"That's good," Kevin said. "But don't push yourself too hard. Getting enough rest is also important."

Naufal nodded. He had to stay calm and focused. He had to ensure the safety of his family. His wedding with Sinta was only two days away, and he wanted to celebrate it happily, without the shadows of a threat.

However, behind his smile, worry still lingered. He didn't know when and how Maya would act.

That night, Naufal had trouble sleeping. Maya's image haunted him. He thought about how to uncover Maya's network and stop her plans. He had to protect his family. He had to be strong. For Sinta and his family, he had to win this fight. And this time, the stakes were much higher than just his career.

"I will find you, Maya," Naufal muttered to himself, staring at the ceiling of his room.

A short message from an unknown number. The message contained only one sentence: "Don't forget your promise, Commander. I will always be watching you." Naufal clenched his fist. This game was getting more intense. He knew, this wasn't just a threat, but a declaration of war.

He contacted Inspector Dimas's cell phone number.

"Hello, Dan..." Dimas's voice was on the other end.

"Where are you, Bang?" Naufal asked, his voice sounding tense.

"Still at the office, Dan. Interrogating Indra's group."

"Wait there, I'm coming to the office now."

"Loh, Dan... Aren't you on leave? Your wedding party is in two days," Dimas sounded hesitant, not feeling good if Naufal had to come to the office.

"It's okay. I'm OTW."

"Okay, Dan..." Dimas said, his voice sounding a little worried.

Naufal hurriedly put on his jacket, grabbed his motorcycle keys before leaving the room.

"Where are you going?" asked Ikhwan, his grandfather, who was sitting with Kevin, Revan and Adelia, Naufal's mother.

"To the office for a while, Kek," Naufal replied, his voice sounding a little rushed.

"You're on leave, son?" Adelia asked, her voice sounding worried. "It's already late."

"Just a little business, Ma..." Naufal replied, trying to convince his mother.

"It's not good to travel, your wedding party is in two days, what are you riding?" Adelia asked, her face showing worry.

"Motorcycle," Naufal replied.

"Don't ride a motorcycle, take a car," Kevin suggested.

"To get to the office quickly, Om," Naufal explained. "That's why I'm using a motorcycle."

"Naufal, don't look for trouble! Taking a car isn't any better!" Ikhwan snapped, his voice firm, showing his concern.

"Let me take you," Revan offered, his voice calm but full of authority. "Come on..."

Revan stood up, approaching Naufal. He knew that his nephew was facing something serious. He had to ensure Naufal's safety. Naufal's wedding was only two days away, but Maya's threat still loomed. He had to make sure that the wedding went smoothly, without any disturbances.

"Come on," Revan said, his tone calm but firm. He opened the car door and gestured for Naufal to get in.

Naufal got into Revan's car. The atmosphere in the car felt tense. Naufal was still thinking about Maya's threat, while Revan seemed focused on driving, occasionally glancing at Naufal from the rearview mirror.

After a few moments of silence, Naufal broke the silence. "Om, I'm worried. Maya's threat isn't just an empty one."

Revan nodded, his eyes still focused on the road. "I know, Nak. Maya, whatever her real name is and what she looks like, must be no ordinary person. She is cunning and dangerous. That's for sure. But don't worry, she won't do anything to disrupt your wedding party. She just wants to mess with your mind."

"Yeah..."

"I've been in this unit before, I understand the ins and outs of dealing with targets who often threaten families. But rest assured. They won't win."
