When the bell goes for class my students start filing in. I can hear shouting so I step out into the hallway and follow the racket.
Walking down the hallway there's students in a crowd, blocking my way. I push through to see talia and Ria at each other's throats.
Talia is screaming in Ria's face 'you bitch you're so lucky I don't knock your teeth out'. I step forward and shout 'Break it up, break it up' the commotion stops. My eyes find Abby's limp body on the floor, I run over to her and notice the blood pooling from her head.
It's like I'm in a slow motion movie, my hearts pounding, my hands are shaking, tears flow from my eyes. I feel hands on my shoulders moving me. The paramedics come rushing through and start applying gauze to Abby's head wound. They one wraps her head while the other attaches monitors to Abby's limp body.
When I hear the heart monitor my body falls to the floor. My Abby's alive.
'Hey she's going to be okay, let the paramedics do their job' Mr Halt says. He walks me to his office and makes us both a coffee.
Once I've calmed down Mr Halt starts talking
'I've expelled Ria' he says tiredly 'she's been arrested for ABH, GBH and common assault, the security footage has been taken by the police'
'What about tommy? He was there, egging Ria on'
'His been expelled'
'And Talia?'
'Still here, she's been given a warning, she stood up to Ria for Abby but her threatening behaviour is not acceptable' he sighs heavily
'How long has it been?' He asks
'What are you on about' i ask in confusion
'You and Abby, you were in shock, you clearly love her' I chuckle
'Honestly a few weeks since I started, it wasn't supposed to happen but I love her, seeing her like that, man it was hard, I don't know what I'd do if I lost her' he chuckles
'I know it's not supposed to happen but I'm not one to talk, I slept with Ria for Christ sake' he leans back in his chair quietly, then he blurts something I never thought I'd hear
'So whens the wedding? Will I be the best man?'
I think for a moment before replying
'I've got to propose first' he chuckles at this
'Go, buy a ring on the way to the hospital' I get up swiftly and walk out.
I walk out the office and to my office, I grab my keys and head out.
As soon as I step into the hallway talia comes running over to me calling,
'Sir sir' I turn to her
'What is it talia?' I ask sternly
'Is Abby alright? I've been so worried' she cries
'I'm actually about to go see Abby, come, I think i will need your help with something' I walk towards reception, Talia right on my heels.
When we arrive at reception I speak with Maddy
'Can you sign Talia out, she's going to see Abby at the hospital' Maddy smiles up at me
'Sure, I hope Abby feels better soon' she says.
'Come along Talia I don't have all day' I say curtly walking out the office to my car. I get in the drivers seat buckle up and start the car, Talia jumps in once I've reversed out the parking space.
'Put your belt on' I order as I drive out of the gates.
We drive along to the town where I pull up.
'Come on' I say as I get out the car. Talia does the same. I lock the doors then walk along the high street, Talia chases after me once she's caught up, we're already outside the jewellery store, she asks
'Sir, what are we doing' I gesture to the store, Talia looks more confused when I enter.
'Talia choose an engagement ring, something you think Abby would like' she looks at me in confusion. Then realisation morphs on her face.
Talia looks at the rings for about 20 minutes before choosing one and calling me over.
'Sir what about this one' she says pointing. I walk over and as soon as I see it I know it's perfect. The ring is elegant, a single gold band with diamonds in the middle forming a heart. I call the shop keeper over to buy it.
'That's £3.420' Talia's jaw drops as I pass over my card. I look at her and smile while grabbing the box with the ring in.
We walk out of the shop and quickly get back in the car. I pull the ring box out and place it into my pocket so I can get to it easily. I start the car and drive to the hospital.
As soon as we get to hospital we get out. I lock the doors and we walk over to reception.
'Hello, how may I help you today' the receptionist says smiling softly at me.
'Abby rye, where is she' she types on the computer for a few minutes then looks up.
'She's currently having an MRI sir but if you wish to wait she's in ward Amber, if you follow this corridor it's the 5th on the right' I'm off already calling over my shoulder 'Thankyou'.
