Rachel shut her apartment door hard and leaned on it, breathing hard. Her hands pushed against the wood, her body still hot from what she had just left.
Nicholas.
She hated him. She hated everything he had ever done to her. But her lips still felt his kiss, her skin still felt his touch, and her body still shook with the memories of their passion.
Her head dropped back against the door. Why did I let that happen? She had told herself she would never fall for his tricks again, that she would never make him happy.
But she had given in, even worse, she had liked it.
Rachel went slowly to David's room. He was curled up under his blanket, breathing quietly in sleep. His small hand held his toy car like it was the most valuable thing in the world.
Her heart hurt badly. Standing there, she suddenly felt dirty. How could she come home to this innocent boy after what she had just done? She bent down and kissed his head gently, whispering, "Mama's here."
But the guilt didn't go away.
