Laura barely managed to get any sleep at all. The quietness of her phone bothered her, getting worse as time went on.
Her agent was supposed to give her an update the night before. He had promised he would sneak into Rachel Crawford's workplace and get that agreement for her.
He had seemed sure of himself, so sure that he was arrogant about it.
But since then? Nothing had happened. There was no message or phone call.
Laura tapped her phone screen once more. The phone number still couldn't be reached.
Her fingernails tapped on the glass table as she was sitting in her living room, feeling nervous.
Had he been caught doing something wrong? The thought made her feel sick to her stomach. If that was the case, then Rachel already was aware.
A noisy, sharp knock shook her entrance door.
Laura became tense immediately. Her heels made sharp noises on the shiny floor as she went to the door and opened it.
Rachel Crawford was standing right there.
