The next day, Ichiro Takayanagi went to brief the person in charge about the matters he was leaving behind, while Kaoru Tohsaka was taken care of by Reika.
"Why did you rush into doing something like that so soon?" Reika asked her daughter after helping her freshen up.
She hadn't expected that, because she failed to act in time, Kaoru would slip into Ichiro's bed and let everything happen.
Of course, Reika didn't believe this was something Ichiro had demanded. In the past, she hadn't known him well, but after the night before last, she understood that Ichiro wasn't the type to force someone.
Which meant… Kaoru had taken the initiative.
Reika sighed inwardly. If only she had made her answer sound more frightening when Kaoru had asked her that question yesterday, perhaps her daughter wouldn't have been tempted to try.
"The first time is painful. Get some rest—we'll be heading to Tokyo soon," Reika said in the end, deciding not to press the issue further. It was bound to happen eventually, and Kaoru's "stealing a taste" had only brought the inevitable forward.
But Kaoru shook her head. "At first it was unforgettable in a painful way, but after that, the pleasure was just as unforgettable. Now I finally know why you made those sounds, Mom."
Reika's face burned at her daughter's bluntness, but at least she could tell Ichiro had been considerate—Kaoru hadn't come away with any bad feelings.
"If there's nothing wrong, pack your things."
"Big brother Ichiro said there's no need. We'll get new stuff in Tokyo. Besides, we don't have anything that special here… except for last night," Kaoru replied, clearly having learned a lot from Ichiro.
Reika mentally spat at the "special" night her daughter was referring to, then got up to leave. But, just like last night, Kaoru called out to her before she reached the door.
"Mom, can we be together?"
Reika froze. Ichiro had already promised to protect both mother and daughter, so there was no reason they'd be separated. But when she saw the look on Kaoru's face, she understood what she meant—she wasn't asking about the two of them being together, but whether they could both be with Ichiro.
"You really dare say anything," Reika muttered. She didn't scold Kaoru for her shameless words—just glanced around to make sure Ichiro wasn't nearby before quickly leaving the room.
This girl seemed to have had some strange switch flipped inside her… but Reika hadn't actually denied the possibility. If Ichiro wanted it, she certainly wouldn't stop him.
…
Taking Kaoru's hint to heart, Reika didn't bother packing much. Soon, Ichiro was driving both women back to Tokyo.
On the road, his phone rang, and he gestured for Kaoru in the passenger seat to answer it.
"Mr. Takayanagi, this is Inspector Megure. There's something I need your cooperation on."
"Hello, I'm big brother Ichiro's little sister. I'll put him on now," Kaoru replied nervously upon hearing it was a police inspector, but she handled it politely.
Ichiro took the phone, switched to speaker, and set it aside. "Inspector Megure, I'm on my way back to Tokyo. What's this about?"
There was a pause on the other end, then Megure said, "No wonder your sister picked up. How long until you get back?"
"About half an hour."
"Alright. We'll wait for you downstairs at your place and talk then."
"Fine." Ichiro hung up after Megure did.
In the car, both Reika and Kaoru's expressions were a bit uneasy—because of the mention of the police inspector.
"It's nothing to do with you two. He's here for me, so just act normal," Ichiro reassured them.
"Alright," Reika replied, as the adult in the situation.
Ichiro glanced at the silent Kaoru in the passenger seat, smiled faintly, and pressed down on the accelerator toward home.
