Chapter 38: Normie Explosion, Again

'This is my phone number and email. Contact me often, okay!'

Even through the note, Hikigaya could feel Kushida's cute tone.

He took out his phone, leisurely entering the contact information from the note.

Come to think of it, this was the first time he'd gotten a girl's contact info since coming to this school… No, not just a girl—this was the first classmate's contact info he got.

Horikita occasionally glanced over. Though she couldn't see the note's contents, she could guess from Hikigaya's actions.

She didn't say anything. After all, whose contact info he had didn't concern her. As for herself…

As if remembering something, Horikita Suzune suddenly grabbed a pen and started writing her contact info on a piece of paper.

While Hikigaya was still carefully entering numbers, Horikita stood in front of him.

"…"

The two locked eyes in silence. The girl placed the written note on Hikigaya's desk.

"What's this?"

"The same thing you're holding."

"…"

"Don't get the wrong idea. Since you're helping me, it'd be inconvenient without contact info. I'm warning you—don't send me weird messages."

"I won't. What kind of person do you think I am?"

"With those dead-fish eyes, you always give off a creepy vibe."

"Hey, that's personal. And your dead-fish face isn't much better."

Though Hikigaya muttered under his breath, as expected, Horikita heard him.

She crossed her arms angrily, glaring at Hikigaya with a terrifying stare.

"Hey, Hikigaya, what're you doing?!"

From a distance, the red-haired hedgehog's shout rang out.

'Perfect timing! Sudo, my savior!'

The red-haired hedgehog dashed to Hikigaya's side at a two-second sprint speed. But with the black-haired girl standing at Hikigaya's desk, the atmosphere grew even more awkward.

Sudo: "Ohh, Hikigaya, you're actually exchanging contact info with a girl."

Sudo didn't intentionally raise his voice, but his naturally loud tone instantly drew the class's attention.

This included Kushida, of course.

Seeing things going south, the black-haired girl quickly returned to her seat, pretending she didn't know him.

Though weeks had passed, the earlier incident had made the class remember Hikigaya.

They knew they'd misunderstood him, but pride kept them from apologizing. Since they had no real connection with Hikigaya, they'd stayed on the sidelines, testing the waters.

Now, Sudo's words silenced the entire classroom.

Sudo, however, seemed oblivious to the situation, continuing in his undiminished voice: "Nice one, Hikigaya! You're exchanging contact info with a girl."

"No, it's not an exchange, it's just her… one-sided…"

Seeing Horikita's fierce glare, Hikigaya instantly realized how dangerous this topic was. One wrong word, and he might not see tomorrow's sun.

"What one-sided? What are you talking about? Anyway, as your brother, I don't even have your contact info. You're kinda prioritizing girls over friends."

"…"

'Great, I can't explain anything to this guy. Why are you all looking at me so weirdly?'

Feeling the class's strange stares, Hikigaya knew if he let this guy keep talking, his reputation would be ruined.

Not that it was great to begin with, but this was pure slander—absolute slander!

"You were busy with basketball club stuff before, weren't you?"

"Oh… yeah, now that you mention it, maybe it's my fault."

"Glad you see it that way."

"So let's exchange contact info now. Calling each other brothers without it is kinda ridiculous."

'Idiot, weren't you the one who arbitrarily called us brothers? I don't even have friends, so where'd this brother come from…'

Though Hikigaya grumbled inwardly, his hands moved honestly. If he didn't exchange info, who knew what else this guy would say?

He had to shut him up quick.

Hikigaya entered Sudo's contact info into his phone, breathing a sigh of relief as the guy finally stopped talking nonsense.

But things weren't over yet.

When he came to, Hirata was somehow standing in front of him.

"Hikigaya, let's exchange contact info too."

"Huh? Who do you think you are, exchanging contact info with my brother?"

Sudo seemed annoyed. Though he wouldn't throw punches, his expression intimidated quite a few classmates.

'Didn't expect you to be so possessive, Sudo. But isn't that possessiveness misplaced?'

Hikigaya didn't know what Hirata was up to, but since he'd asked, and with Horikita and Sudo as precedents, refusing would seem a bit ungracious.

Besides, it's just contact info. They'd probably exchange greetings once, then they would delete it after a while with no further interaction. He'd experienced that himself.

Hikigaya nodded lightly, indicating no issue, unaware that this small nod would land him in big trouble.

Seeing Hirata successfully exchange contact info with Hikigaya, the boys in the class swarmed over to do the same. The girls, led by Karuizawa, formed their own group to exchange info with him too. Even latecomers to the classroom, seeing the scene, slowly joined the crowd.

In an instant, Sudo was pushed out, and Horikita, at the neighboring desk, was completely displaced by the terrifying flood of people.

Facing the overwhelming crowd, Hikigaya realized… he was becoming the kind of person he'd always despised.

As expected, normies should just explode!
