Evelyn walked out of the company in a rush, her expression gloomy.
"That bastard… he didn't even check my credentials, just dismissed me all because I lack the necessary experience." She muttered under her breath. Securities escorted her out, but they stopped their job once she reached the main entrance.
Evelyn didn't even look back— she only advanced forward, to the garage where her vehicle was parked.
She did not want anything that would take her back to this company— she hoped that maybe, she wouldn't come back.
And yet, her instinct told her furtively that something was amiss. She slowly let her guard down and sank deep into thoughts.
If it wasn't for the fact that her mother seriously needed money for surgery, maybe she would have patiently waited for the government to call her for work. But time is not a luxury that she could afford.
Her father could barely earn money for a three-square meal. Evelyn had only been lucky to be sponsored during her college days; if not, she might not have even bagged the degrees that she had now.
Another sigh.
Evelyn remembered promising her parents a better life, she also remembered telling them that it would be easy for her to be employed due to her grades and now this?
She drove all the way to her rented apartment which was many miles away from the small town her parents lived in and just as she pulled up at the driveway, like an instant jolt of memories, she suddenly realized that her mobile phone was not with her.
"What?"
She searched the entire vehicle.
No phone.
A chill settled.
Maybe she had been thinking too much about not getting the job, which is why she was unable to think probably—forgetting somehow that she might have dropped her phone atop his glass table.
She slowly pressed a hand over her head and set the gear of her car in reverse. And then, facing the street, she bolted down towards the Skyshare Empire.
The journey wasn't long… it should be at least forty minutes drive. If you want to calculate the time, you'd realize that it was already dusk. Her interview with the CEO had been due at 5pm and after not being offered a job, wasting her precious ten minutes, she had to spend like thirty thinking and forty driving. So it should be around six pm or after six.
The car screeched softly and came to a halt.
She was already thinking of a way to convince the securities that her phone had been left behind and she needed to get it; however, for some reason, they saw her and simply opened the door.
She blinked.
'Did they forget that it was me earlier?'
That was not possible.
These securities had really been invested in her matter today, all thanks to that proud CEO. Despite her surprise, she did not dare question them. She quickly hurried to the seventh floor and entered the hallway towards the boss's office.
When she got to the door, she heard his grumpy voice, either yelling at someone about work, or just being the jerk that he is. However, his voice wasn't the only thing he heard, he also heard a familiar ringtone playing in the office.
Her eyes widened.
"My phone… it's ringing?"
She suddenly remembered submitting her CV to three different companies for the position of administrative assistant, registrar and Secretary.
Suddenly forgetting that she was supposed to knock, she immediately barged in causing the man on the phone to freeze at the interruption.
Jared hated noise, but this one was more than noisemaking, this is pure interruption.
"Can I call you back later?"
And the call disconnected. His expression was already terrifying and his eyes glared daggers at Evelyn's back.
She noticed, but chose to ignore.
Evelyn quickly grabbed her ringing phone on the glass table and answered the call almost immediately.
"I'm so sorry sir, I might have forgotten my phone in some unworthy place."
Jared's aura shifted dramatically. Not harsh, but enough to startle anyone and yet, Evelyn continued her call, pretending to be completely oblivious.
And then like a dream, Evelyn shouted.
"I got the job? Secretary? Thank you so much, thank you very much, I really appreciate sir."
Evelyn was excited. She had been rejected earlier, but now she already got a job. Happily, she decided to leave the office, completely ignoring the man inside its sparse confines but then, he grabbed her gently on the shoulder, his expression calm.
He picked a work barge, the one he had personally designed for the secretary who would work under him and he threw it at Evelyn.
Evelyn panicked but she successfully caught the barge, face turning pale.
"You've got the job. You're to resume work first thing tomorrow morning. No excuses, no information."
Evelyn was shocked.
"Wait what?"
He turned sharply and said confidently. "This is my only way of helping the needy. So be grateful."
Evelyn was suddenly infuriated.
She wanted to retort however Jared beat her to it.
"I pay 7 million dollars per month, fifty thousand dollars per day. Accept or reject my offer, it all depends on your critical thinking."
Evelyn suddenly hesitated.
The other companies had only promised to pay 900,000$ her mother's surgery is almost a hundred million dollars. So if there was any job that would help her gather quick money, then it is the Skyshare Empire.
"Fine."
Jared turned towards her and nodded, expression unreadable and cold.
