Chapter 87 - Potential big fish and dealing with some birds.

I forced myself to calm down before heading for the common room. I arrived and wasn't surprised to find Dumbledore, the strange unknown wizard and Flitwick waiting for me.

"I must say you certainly put on quite the show earlier. Can you explain why?" Dumbledore asked in a way that said he really wasn't actually asking.

"You know about the changes since I got this." I said holding up my hand to show off the spear shrunk and tucked between my bandages "It's related." I lied without hesitation.

Flitwick frowned "In what way?" he asked confused.

"It's the air, no that's not quite right. It's the electrical static in the air from the storm outside, my body wants to instinctively absorb it. Like drinking water when you are thirsty. The show as you called it was a result of that, a visible sign of it happening." I said annoyed.

"Newt my friend what do you make of this?" Dumbledore asked the strange old wizard softly.

"I hesitate to say it definitively but they might be here for him. If his body is like you have said they may believe him a lost kin, no ordinary one at that." the strange wizard named Newt said with a blatantly confused look.

'Newt? This couldn't be THAT Newt right?' I thought in disbelief but chose to seek clarity all the same.

"Excuse me, but are you Newt Scamander by chance?" I asked curiously.

The man shifted awkwardly in place "Erm, yes? I don't do autographs if you were going to ask." he said awkwardly.

"Ah that makes sense then. I noticed the Bowtruckle in your pocket earlier and thought it odd since they are rather shy and timid. If it's you though it fits what I know of you. Give me a moment, I have something that might interest you." I said eagerly before hurrying up the dorm stairs and into my room.

Once I was in my room I opened my inventory and took out the Pulmonoscorpius egg that had been sitting there for quite some time. I then rushed back down while carefully making sure not to shake it too much. All three of the older wizards immediately locked eyes on the egg in my hand but Newt shot forward with a surprisingly spritely maneuver to examine it up close.-

"From the texture and coloration it appears to be either aquatic or insectoid in nature. This color makes me think insect however as aquatic eggs tend to be lighter shades for more light exposure. What is it from?" he asked eagerly.

"Pulmonoscorpius, an ancient genus of scorpion that has venom sacs not only in the tail but pincers as well. Average length of two meters not including the tails, three and a half if you do." I explained honestly.

"Incredible, where did you get it?" he asked eyeing it in almost fanatical awe.

I shook my head "I can't say but you are free to look into it if you like, no poaching needed to get this. In truth i've had it sitting around since before I arrived at school under a stasis charm." I said calmly.

"Not something a student should have young Alex. What if it harmed a fellow student after it hatched?" Dumbledore said sternly.

"It wasn't going to hatch since it was under stasis, even if it did it wouldn't matter so long as it's owner was training it properly. The species imprints on the first living thing it sees and are easily trained to passivity so long as they are fed regularly." I said without missing a beat.

"How do you know that?" Newt asked intrigued.

"I checked of course. I wouldn't be much of a merchant if I didn't at least understand my own merchandise would I?" I said with a shrug.

"Merchant?" Newt blinked with an odd look.

I bowed dramatically "Alexander Drake, aspiring merchant most mysterious. At your service." I said grandly.

"You certainly have the mystery aspect covered. I haven't found a single lead at where you are producing these things from at all, not even a hint." Dumbledore said with a small smile.

"Truly?" Newt exclaimed in shock and the headmaster nodded.

"Even with all my resources there's not a single actionable lead. At this point I am looking merely for the challenge it's presenting." Dumbledore said lightly.

"From the introduction I can infer you mean to sell this egg to me then?" Newt asked and I nodded.

"Quite so but before that I'd like to talk about my current problem. You can have the egg for free if you can get rid of the cause. It's bloody miserable holding back like this." I said helplessly.

He looked uncomfortable at that "That.... might not be so easy. The thunderbirds migrated en mass from the reserve in America, likely for you." he said apologetically.

"What?" I asked incredulous.

"Your professors told me about your accident at the start of term and the changes it caused after the outburst in the great hall earlier. I may be mistaken but those changes may have.... confused the birds into thinking you are one of them. A royal blooded one at that, they are likely here to "retrieve" you." he said increasingly awkwardly the further he got.

I could feel my eyebrow twitching at that explanation.

"I think I understand. Do any of these windows open by chance?" I asked Flitwick calmly.

"They should, why?" the small professor answer with a confused expression.

"Need to go shoo off the birds." I said as I walked over to the nearest window and pushed it open.

I held my arm out the opening and flexed my hand to exert my control over lightning to draw every single bit into a single area before pulling it to me. The three wizards looked on dumbfounded as a massive white bolt of lightning struck my outstretched palm. It vanished as my body bulged in size with a white glow for a moment before shrinking again. The clouds in the sky were sent packing from that discharge leaving a flock of very startled looking white and golden six winged birds flying where there was previously a storm.
