Chapter 9
Ash Ketchum watched as his Pokémon ate their lunch. It was around noon, and they had been training all morning, preparing for their second-round match. Ash had downed his lunch in seconds.
As Ash thought back on the day's events, he heard a slight rustle in the bushes to his left. He watched them curiously as a small, fox-like Pokémon ran out. An Eevee. As he walked up to the Pokémon, it shuddered. The Eevee was a necklace made of a silver-like material. A white crystal hung from the front of it.
"D-don't hurt me!" The Eevee cried in a feminine voice.
Ash crouched down and patted the Eevee on her head. "I'm not here to hurt you," Ash said in a soothing voice, trying to calm the poor Pokémon. "What are you running from?"
The Eevee's breath slowed a little. "Poachers," she said, "they want my Evolution Amulet."
Ash scowled at the mention of poachers. "What's an Evolution Amulet?"
Her eyes widened. "You can understand me?" She asked.
"Yep," Ash said, "It's a long story. But right now, you need help. Those poachers are probably on their way."
"Okay," Eevee hesitated. "The Evolution Amulet allows the holder to… Evolve at any time, and evolve back to my previous form. That allows me to evolve into any of my eight evolutions and back whenever I want."
Ash looked interested, but decided to wait to ask questions, as he heard another rustling from the woods.
"There it is!" one voice called.
"Let's get it!" another yelled.
Ash called for his Pokémon, who ran over right as the poachers came out of the brush.
One of them spotted Eevee, who was hiding behind Ash's legs. "Hey, kid! If you know what's good for you, then you'd better hand over that Eevee right now!"
Ash was not intimidated. "Back off," he said, "Eevee is staying here. You aren't getting your hands on her!"
The poacher on the left growled and grabbed a Pokeball. "Alright, you asked for it!" He threw out the Pokeball, releasing a Skarmory, which glared at Ash and his Pokémon.
"Skarmory, teach these brats a lesson with your Steel Wing!" The Poacher demanded. The Skarmory let out a battle cry and launched toward Cyndaquil, who quickly jumped out of the way.
"Cyndaquil, use Flamethrower!" Ash called to his Johto starter. The small Pokémon launched a wave of flames at the steel-covered bird, who was roasted by the attack and fell to the ground. The poacher kicked the downed bird before returning it, causing Ash to glare at him.
"Go, Rydon!" The second poacher yelled. The large rock and ground type gave a battle cry as it was released.
"Use Take Down!" Rhydon charged at Cyndaquil, slamming into him and knocking him out. The poacher smirked. "Rydon, use Horn Drill on the boy!"
Ash gasped as the large Pokémon charged at him, preparing to change into Latius if necessary. But before he could, Eevee jumped in front of Ash. Her Amulet flashed light blue, and a brilliant blue light enveloped her.
When the light died down, a Glaceon was now standing in her place. She shot a large Ice Beam at the Rydon, which collapsed a few feet in front of them from the super effective attack. As the poachers tried to make a break for it, her amulet glowed purple, and the light coated her again, turning her into an Espeon. She ran in front of the poachers, and her eyes glowed as the poachers made eye contact. They both promptly collapsed as the hypnosis attack did its job.
Ash had Bulbasaur bind the criminals with vines and called Officer Jenny, who quickly arrived to arrest the poachers.
"Thanks for saving me, Eevee, er, Glaceon, er... Espeon!" Ash laughed. "Man, that's confusing!"
Espeon giggled as she allowed the light to fade from her amulet, allowing the white glow to cover her, and returned to being an Eevee. "You're welcome! And I guess you'd better think of a nickname because I want to come along with you!"
"A nickname?" said Ash, "Wait?! You want to come with us?"
The Eevee nodded her head, giggling at his reaction. "I saw how you handled that Skarmory!" she said, "Cyndaquil is strong for having not evolved! Plus, you gave me the courage to defeat those poachers. I think you would make a perfect trainer!"
"Well, I wouldn't say that!" Ash said, blushing a bit from the praise. "I just do what I can!"
"I don't care! I want to become stronger and see the world! I want to travel with you!"
Ash thought it over for a second. "Well, if you want to join me, then we'd be glad to have you!"
Eevee pranced around Ash happily. "Yay! Thank you!"
Ash pulled out an empty Pokeball and lightly tapped Eevee's head with it. She was absorbed by the ball in a beam of red energy and allowed herself to be captured. Ash, of course, did his normal pose for catching a Pokémon, which Pikachu, Latias, and Latios all sweatdropped at.
"Let me think of a name for you," Ash said after he released his new Pokémon. He had never nicknamed a Pokémon before, but finally, he came up with an idea. "How about 'Skye'?"
Eevee thought it over for a few seconds, then grinned. "I love it!"
Ash smiled, happy with his success. "Glad you like it," He glanced at the sun. "Oh, man! We have to go train! But before we do, I have something that I need to tell you. Since you're a part of the team now, you need to know," He built up energy in his body and was coated in a blue glow. When it subsided, he was in his eon form.
Skye gasped and stared at him. "Y-you're a Latios?!"
Ash shrugged. "Not exactly. I'm actually half human, half Pokémon. I only became part eon after an incident in Altomare when I saved a friend. By the way, you can reveal yourselves now!" He called to the two invisible eons.
They promptly dropped their invisibility, startling Skye. "Latios and Latias?!"
Latias giggled at her reaction. "Yep!" she said, "We decided to go with Ash after he saved my brother's life."
Skye was surprised. "Wow, Ash! You saved a legendary Pokémon's life? Do you know how big of a deal that is?"
"Yeah," said Ash, rubbing the back of his neck. "Latios wouldn't stop bugging me about that until I agreed with him. Anyway, let's get back to training!"
Ash and his Pokémon trained for the rest of the day, only stopping for a break or two. The next day came quickly, and Ash was called to the arena for his round 2 match. He looked across the battlefield and met eyes with his opponent, Christy.
"Good Luck!" He called over to her.
"Same to you!" She said.
The referee went over the rules of the match. It was to be a three-on-three and had the same rules as the first round. The referee held up his flags. "Begin!"
Ash took his first Pokeball off his belt. "Go, Noctowl!" The Owl Pokémon appeared in a flash of white light and gave a battle cry.
"Wow, you have a shiny!" said Christy, pulling out her first Pokeball. "Well, I know just how to deal with that! Go Dewgong!" She threw the Pokeball, and a Dewgong appeared in a bright flash of light.
"It has been decided that Ash Ketchum will receive the first move!" announced the referee.
"Noctowl, use Quick Attack!"
Noctowl nodded and launched himself at Dewgong. He rammed into his target, doing a bit of damage.
"Dewgong, use Blizzard!" Christy yelled. Her Dewgong let out a powerful snowstorm at Noctowl, who tried to dodge but was still in close range because of his Quick Attack. He was hit by the attack and fell to the ground, but was able to slowly get up.
"Good job, Noctowl!" said Ash, "Hang in there and use Hypnosis!" Noctowl flashed his eyes at Dewgong, and the ice type promptly fell over, snoring. "Ok, Noctowl, now use Steel Wing!"
Noctowl shot off at the sleeping Dewgong and slammed his glowing wings into the ice/water type. Unfortunately for Ash and Noctowl, though the attack did a lot of damage, the blow caused Dewgong to wake up.
"Yes, you're awake, Dewgong!" Christy cheered. "Use Sheer Cold!"
Ash gasped. "Noctowl, get out of there!" But it was too late. The powerful ice attack slammed into Noctowl, instantly knocking him out.
"Noctowl is unable to battle, Dewgong wins!" The referee called.
"And there goes Ash's Noctowl folks!" said the announcer, "I wonder what he'll use next!"
"Alright, Skye, you're up!" Ash said, throwing out his second Pokeball. The Eevee emerged from her ball and landed in a battle-ready position.
"Okay, Dewgong, Use, Ice Beam!" Christy called.
As the attack approached, Ash called out his next command. "Skye, Ice!" Skye nodded, and her amulet flashed light blue. The Eevee promptly evolved into Glaceon, easily taking the attack. Before Christy could recover from her surprise, Ash called out to his Eevee again. "Electric, then use Thunderbolt!"
Skye's amulet flashed yellow this time, turning her into a Jolteon. She then launched a thunderbolt at the surprised Dewgong, knocking the weakened ice type out.
Up in the stands, Professor Oak spat his drink all over the person sitting in front of him. "I did not just see a Glaceon evolve into a Jolteon!" he said, "I must be going crazy!"
Delia, who was sitting beside him, didn't hear him. She was taking so many pictures, he couldn't believe she hadn't run out of film yet.
Chrisy returned her Dewgong and called out another Pokémon, a Machoke. "Use Seismic Toss!" Machoke ran to pick up Skye and was promptly electrocuted for his efforts. "Skye, Psychic, then use Psybeam!" Skye's amulet flashed purple, and she became an Espeon. She then launched a beam of psychic energy at Machoke, who was knocked over from the super-effective hit.
"Machoke, use Rock Throw!" Christy called. Machoke threw a large boulder he got from who-knows-where, and after it got about halfway to Skye, she blasted it with Psychic, and it shattered in mid-air.
"Alright, Skye, use Psybeam!" said Ash.
"Machoke, use Dual Chop!" said Christy as Machoke recovered from the blow.
"Counter with Swift!" said Ash.
Machoke charged, hitting Skye on the head before being blasted to the ground by Swift.
"Machoke is unable to battle! Espeon wins!" The referee announced.
"It's not over yet," said Christy, holding up her last Pokeball. "Let's turn this around! Go, Onix!"
As the Pokémon materialized, Skye turned back into an Eevee and waited for a command.
"Skye, return!" said Ash. "Pikachu! Let's do this!"
"Ash Ketchum makes the questionable decision of switching out his, uh, Eevee with his Pikachu," said the referee.
"Pikachu, use Electro Web on the wall!" said Ash.
Christy ignored his seemingly useless move. "Ok, Onix, use Earthquake!"
"Pikachu, use Electro Ball to shoot yourself into the air!" yelled Ash.
Pikachu was soon flying over the stadium, avoiding the Earthquake.
"Onix, use Tail Whip!"
"Pikachu, take the hit and use Quick Attack on the Electro Web!"
As commanded, Pikachu took the Tail Whip and further boosted his already fast speed with Quick Attack.
"Now, bounce off the Electro Web with Agility and use Iron Tail on Onix!"
Christy stared wide-eyed as Pikachu bounced off the Electro Web and hit Onix with a blindingly fast Iron Tail. The super-effective hit, along with Pikachu's momentum from Tail Whip, Quick Attack, and Agility, was too much for Onix. It staggered for a moment before falling to the ground, completely knocked out.
"After a brilliant show of skill from Ash Ketchum," said the referee, "Onix is unable to battle; therefore, Pikachu wins, and with two Pokémon remaining, Ash Ketchum is the winner of this match!"
"Yes!" Ash cheered. "Great job, Pikachu! You were amazing!"
Pikachu jumped into Ash's arms and promptly hopped onto his shoulder. Ash smiled and went back to meet up with his friends.
