Zero felt the natural zing of opening his Nexus and stared giddily at his new Remebrance.

'It only took two weeks in these god… godsforsaken mountains, huh. How unfair! I got a Boon right after landing here, and Alice said Boons are way rarer than Remembrances.'

In all honesty, Zero was lucky to even be receiving this Remembrance. How he managed to slay a stone golem with a blade, he did not know. Normally, Caelum got the final blow on these Chaos Beasts.

[Throwing Stone] (Seeker)

(Description)

(Once in a state of harmony, Stone Golems moved great boulders, prospering resources for the world. However, after their descent into Chaos, they threw these resources like savages.)

(Attributes/Skills)

Mighty Toss: Although substantial in weight once thrown, this stone's heft remains mundane. Thus, when thrown, it will carry more strength thereafter.

"So, what's your Remebrance?"

"I just got a rock."

"Are you quoting me?"

Zero summoned the rock onto his gauntlets and felt a bit of weight.

"Oh."

The rock looked pretty ordinary, except that it was fairly smooth.

Zero took a few steps away from where Alice and Caelum were standing, chose a tree, then fired.

The rock soared forward, eventually contacting a tree. The bark splintered back a little bit, and a loud crack resounded from it, echoing back a couple of times.

'Oopsy.'

"Idiot! What'd you do that for? Every Chaos Beast and their mother is going to know we're here now."

'Ah… I didn't expect it to be that loud.'

"How could I know such ordinary rock could hold that much power?"

"It's you who holds the power!"

"Sorry to interject. But Alice is right, Zero; many beasts across these low peaks will know of our whereabouts. It is best to move now. There is just one mountain left after all."

From past experience, Zero expected Alice to make some witty remark about Caelum, saying she was right. But it seems the last two weeks had taken a toll on her. Her eyes had minor dark spots under them, and her barklike, armor Remebrance was slightly worn from their various encounters with Chaos Beasts.

The armor from a Harvest Gnat was a weave of natural browns and greens that fell down to protect the waist and legs with thick, fibrous fabric. According to Alice, it was fairly comfy and practical to travel in.

Zero dismissed Throwing Stone and caught up to Caelum and Alice, who began walking. After all, they were all excited to leave these misty valleys. Although it was fairly easy to kill the "fodder" of the Chaos Beasts, as Alice called them, it was the Transcended beasts that posed a problem.

Large stone golems stomped across the land, booming with every step. Although they were quite easy to hide from them, the frequency with which they existed was alarming. Almost every night, the three of them could hear thunderous steps.

Worst of all, they could not even seek refuge in the many caves that littered the mountains, because that was where stone golems loved to hang out. So, they found as best refuge they could, across dense groves or flat cliffsides.

The only plus side from this more than two-week journey was the increase in their Spirit Levels and the new Remembrances they reaped. They were all nearing or past level 20 now. As for Remembrances, Alice got armor and a black pouch of ink from an octopus. Zero just got a rock, and Caelum got a random feather that was of little use.

Zero hoped that his friend would get a set of armor to protect himself, but it seems he was not in luck for the moment.

So, the three ascended the final mountain before they would be met with the unknown. Would they be met with graceful empty meadows? Or would they find fields trampled by stone golems? They would find out soon.

But when they reached the top of the final mountain, they were met with something none of them could have expected.

Resting before them was a vibrant meadow, with diverse flowers and tall grass. The meadow stretched far and wide, only interrupted by mountains in the distance and the slight mist around them. Winding rivers and streams flowed in from all directions and accumulated into a vast lake in the middle of the meadow.

However, it was not the beautiful meadow and lake that surprised them; it was what stood next to the lake—a grand mansion.

"That's… That's the thing from my first Vestige."

Alice stared confusedly at the mansion in the distance, while Zero discerned some of the details.

The mansion was rather large. It was built of some grey stone, presumably from the mountains around it, and had many windows. Some were large, while others were not. It was difficult to see in detail from the distance and angle they were at, but the home looked well-maintained.

"We have found humans at last, I presume. Such a marvelous mansion surely must be kept, but what do you mean by what you said, Alice?"

Alice stared absetmindedly for a few more moments, her hair and light armor swaying in the wind. Then she answered, with evident confusion in her voice: "From my first Vestige, I was placed right outside of that house, mansion, whatever you want to call it. But I'm sure it was elsewhere."

Alice paused for a moment, then continued.

"It was next to the sanctuary, or at least a copy of it was. Caelum, did you not see it when you traveled to the sanctuary?"

"I am afraid not, Alice. My travels were sidetracked, and I ended up passing through the mountains for quite some time."

"How convenient…"

"It was actually quite the inconvenience. The terrain was a tad treacherous."

"That's not what I meant."

"Anyways, we could probably approach it. Maybe it was meant to mirror the original, and also, it looks like a storm is coming."

Looking to the horizon, where Alice was pointing, Zero saw a hint of dark clouds.
