Chapter 4 - Tragedy (CH-4)

Hearing the maid's statement little Li was quite surprised. Since his birth his grandfather never summoned him, it was always young Li who asked for audience with his grandfather and sought attention. He didn't knew what to feel. Pushing such thoughts in the back of his mind young Li sat up and tidied his clothes before leaving with attendant. Nearing the main hall's corridor there stood extra guards with better equipment than Li family's general equipments. This concerned little Li. With anxious thoughts he walked through the gate of main hall. As young Li see the scene infront even his childish judgement could sense the tension. All main family members were present there. Li Qian was at his chair leaning against one hand. Li Wei had a poker face while Li Shihou's parents had a complicated reaction to their faces.

Along with Li family members there stood a group of men wrapped with dazzling equipment. The twelve men group seemed extremely terrifying to young Li. All of them shared the same if not more dominant demeanour compared to Li Qian. With young Li's arrival Li Qian stared at Li Ren "If you couple has anything to say to little Li you can say it now" Hearing such words Li Shihou jumped with fright. What's happening in the main hall? Why would his parents need to say something as if they are their last words. Why is no branch family member present when all elders are present? Who are these intimidating men? Why are they armoured? Various thoughts sinked in little Li's mind. He was starting to get frantic. At this moment young Li's mother spoke up "Everything is going to be fine my child. I'll contact with your grand ma okay?" Li Shihou's mother's words were full of warmth however Li Ren's reaction was completely different from it. He glared at little Li as if he was looking right into his soul "Run from here. Lock your doors and wait for me. Remember to lock it properly" with that an extremely dense air bursted around Li Ren's body.

Seeing the scene escalate little Li didn't dare to remain at a place where actual cultivators would battle, He immediately started sprinting with all of his abilities towards his room. Seeing young Li in motion one of the man from armoured group with a crimson broad sword reached out to the hilt of his sword while his gazes met his captain. The captain observed no reaction from Li Qian thus he told his subordinate not to chase. The main event would start now afterall so they couldn't care more about a mere child. Li Shihou ran even though his heart almost stopped beating until he got into his room. Upon reaching he remembered Li Ren's words, when Li Ren mentioned to properly lock it he meant using the formation present in this room. To use such formation one doesn't need to be an official cultivator. Such mechanisms can be applied with "keys." These keys varies depending on what the formation master has chosen to be the catalyst. For the formation present in little Li's room his mother had once shown him a green emerald jade that works as a key. As for where it was placed? Even little Li didn't knew that. He started to frantically search the room. The bed sheet, clothes, pillows and even furnitures were scattered everywhere in little Li's room. Although only a few minutes had passed for him it's been an eternity. Little Li found a rusty silver box at a corner in his wardrobe. The origin of this box is unknown but little Li remembers how his mother checked on it once in a while. Suspicion aroused within young Li but he couldn't figure out a way to open it. In frustration he wanted to slammer the box against ground before searching for the jade pendant once again. Just as he gripped the box hardly a spike poked out from four sides piercing young Li's hand from various angles. Blood poured down like a fountain. The blood then flowed into the old rusty box following various lines. With a crack sound the box disintegrated leaving behind the same green jade pendant that Li Shihou was searching. Although little Li's strength was nearing that of an adult even for them such damage was unimaginably painful. The mere pain could have knocked out young Li unconscious if he had not experienced pain during his breathing sessions. Young Li dragged his body enduring the pain before finally putting the jade at formation's key point. A low humm sound rang out around young Li's room, radiating dazzling aura and various symbols. The formation was activated, temporarily securing little Li. After completing the job entrusted on him little Li finally sat down. Blood was dripping from his hand. The floor, his clothes, the door and walls had stains of blood from his wounds. The rapid loss of blood and pain was sucking out Li Shihou's consciousness. There were booming sounds coming from the direction of main hall. At that moment all little Li could understand was his bloodloss was bad, he could get unconscious any moment. His parents are out there fighting with their lives on the line. He had nothing to do as he is filthy weak and his grandparents betrayed his trust.

Thump

Young Li's body fell on the floor. He laid there unconscious while blood kept pouring. Even though it was still bleeding the pace has slowed down to the point that his body was slowly starting to neglect the damage and focus on healing.

Bang! Bang!

"Li Shihou, Open the door"

Who knows how much time has passed since the incident happened. The annoying noises woke little Li up from his unconscious state. His hands had recovered, not entirely but still a lot better than the start. His splattered blood across his room had dried up. Everything seemed cloudy within Li Shihou's consciousness. Knocks on door kept getting louder and louder. With that little Li moved his head around, to his surprise the formation had already vanished. There were specifically nothing that stopped Li family members from forcefully opening the gate and entering into his room yet they were knocking. It felt absolutely weird. Also the voice calling out little Li's name was very familiar to him. It was the voice of his grandmother's. Li Qian's wife's voice. With shaky voice he asked out "Grandmother where are my parents?"

"Your parents would never return. Now come out and have your dinner with Li Patriarch"

A sudden terror shook little Li's heart. His parents would never return? Are they dead? What did they do to deserve such fate? Will they kill him too? He never saw his parents do any injustice to anyone, they were so high and mighty. Just how a tree shelters one from rain or sun his parents sheltered him from everything. They gave him whatever he ever wanted without considering consequences, and this shelter was now gone? His only source of belonging perished? For what? Little Li's mind went on a frenzy. He almost lost his sanity with grief. Is human life that fragile? How could his grand parents watch as they died?

Grief. An unbearable grief surrounded Li Shihou. As seconds went by he could feel himself drowning in utter despair. There was thirst, thirst for justice. Unknowingly the eyes that once held pure innocence burned with cold light.
