Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Chiyo and Sasori

Hearing Uchiha Yato's words, the Third Kazekage suppressed the urge to beat him to death and forced a smile as he said:

"Welcome to Sunagakure. I apologize for the earlier incident—those villagers acted on their own, and we couldn't interfere too much."

Hearing the Third Kazekage's explanation, Hyūga Hizashi was somewhat surprised.

Because this explanation was eerily similar to what Uchiha Yato had said earlier.

Because of this, Hizashi couldn't help but view Yato in an even higher regard.

Uchiha Yato grinned and said, "Don't feed me that excuse."

"You had ten thousand ways to tell them the truth, but you didn't."

"And don't argue with me, or I'll tear off that flimsy veil of yours."

Uchiha Yato had instantly become the conversation ender.

Due to his earlier actions, Yato already had an extremely poor impression of this Third Kazekage—a man who never appeared in the original story and was only mentioned in passing.

And this Third Kazekage clearly wasn't as good an actor as Hidden Leaf's F4.

After just two sentences, he was already breaking character, unable to keep up the act.

If it had been Sarutobi Hiruzen, he might have even offered his face for Uchiha Yato to slap a couple more times.

Chiyo quickly stepped in to mediate, saying, "This was entirely our Anbu's fault. We will conduct a thorough review."

"Nevertheless, we welcome our Hidden Leaf guests to Sunagakure for this exchange."

For Chiyo, Uchiha Yato was willing to show a bit of courtesy.

His expression shifted faster than flipping a page, instantly turning cheerful as he greeted Chiyo warmly.

This made Ebizo, standing beside Chiyo, feel somewhat awkward.

It was as if Uchiha Yato was her grandson, and now the family was happily reunited—while Ebizo was left looking like an outsider.

Ebizo didn't say much, only giving a meaningful glance.

After all, the Third Kazekage was still here, and his pride had just been wounded. Would it really be appropriate to further humiliate him?

Uchiha Yato could afford to be reckless, but as veteran officials, he and Chiyo would have a hard time afterward.

Ebizo went to attend to the other Hidden Leaf guests.

Meanwhile, Uchiha Yato met with Chiyo for a chat.

Uchiha Yato said, "That red-haired boy standing beside the Third Kazekage earlier—he's your grandson, right?"

"He's quite the impressive young man. I'm sure his Puppet Technique is as formidable as yours."Hearing Uchiha Yato's praise, Chiyo nodded slightly and said, "Sasori is a bit of a loner by nature."

"He's also one of the few remaining pillars supporting Sunagakure right now."

Uchiha Yato certainly knew Sasori. In the original story, it was Sasori who killed the Third Kazekage, triggering the Third Great Ninja War.

But the Sasori he saw now didn't seem as twisted as before, which piqued Yato's curiosity.

Uchiha Yato remarked, "But from what I see, that kid's personality isn't too bad."

"When he went to evacuate the villagers earlier, he wasn't overly cold. Perhaps he just didn't receive enough affection from his elders."

Yato wasn't implying that Chiyo hadn't cared for Sasori properly, but rather pointing out potential issues in their familial relationship.

There was one thing Chiyo hadn't mentioned.

For some reason, Sasori had recently been acting secretive at times.

But Chiyo couldn't intervene too much—it involved the child's privacy. If she broke that boundary, it might worsen their already strained grandparent-grandchild relationship.

Just then, Uchiha Yato and Chiyo arrived at Sunagakure's orphanage.

Inside, the Third Kazekage was playing with the children.

Uchiha Yato understood this behavior was merely to appear approachable to civilians, thereby strengthening his grassroots support.

He'd seen plenty of such acts from Sarutobi Hiruzen—even more shamelessly. Hiruzen would give grand speeches at the ninja academy, proclaiming himself the strongest Hokage.

At that very moment, in the Hidden Leaf Village, Sarutobi Hiruzen sneezed repeatedly without reason.

The Anbu captain, Sarutobi Shinnosuke, asked with concern, "Father, are you alright?"

"Have you been handling too many missions lately? It seems to be affecting your health."

Hiruzen was equally puzzled by the sudden sneezing fit.

"It's nothing serious," he replied. "Just an itchy nose. I'm not so frail as to collapse from a few sneezes."

"More importantly, Shinnosuke, make sure the next few missions go perfectly. And if you find Danzo... it's better if he doesn't return."

Indeed, one of Hiruzen's greatest flaws was his soft heart.

This was why, in later years, he would sign so many unequal treaties, with numerous instances of sacrificing sovereignty and national dignity.

(The reference here is to Hizashi's death, which we won't elaborate on further.)

...

Seeing Uchiha Yato and Chiyo arrive, the Third Kazekage simply instructed the children to return indoors without further comment.

If Uchiha Yato were to go berserk here, it would endanger Sunagakure's future.

The Third Kazekage said, "Honored guests, there's no need to visit such a place. It's... inappropriate."

Uchiha Yato understood the implication perfectly—that these children became orphans because of war with the Hidden Leaf, making the Leaf the culprits who shouldn't torment the children further.

In the past, Chiyo might have agreed that the Leaf bore greater responsibility.

But back in the Hidden Leaf, Uchiha Yato had already explained:

War knows no right or wrong. Sunagakure sought more fertile land to feed its people, while the Hidden Leaf fought to protect its homeland from losing territory. The blame could only be placed on the sorrowful circumstances that forced people to put down their hoes and pick up swords, fighting for a place for themselves and future generations.

Uchiha Yato wasted no words and led by example.

Holding a handful of specialty candies from the Uchiha Clan, he distributed two pieces to each child he saw.

These were classic White Rabbit Creamy Candies that Yato had drawn from his system as small snacks.

At first, the children were somewhat timid around this unfamiliar big brother.

But Uchiha Yato's face was remarkably disarming, and the candies in his hand smelled incredibly sweet.

After seeing the first child approach Yato, the others gradually let their guard down and gathered around him to ask for candy.

It must be said, his ability to connect with them was quite impressive.

At this point, the Third Kazekage remarked somewhat sourly, "Didn't the Hidden Leaf have those music things before? Why don't you compose a song for these children?"

The Third Kazekage didn't believe Uchiha Yato was omniscient.

From previous intelligence reports, he knew the Hidden Leaf now had machines that could play sound recordings.

Since these were products originating from the Uchiha Clan, Yato would surely know about them.

This way, if Yato wasn't skilled in music, it would embarrass him. If he was skilled, they could get something for free - a win-win situation.

Uchiha Yato thought for a moment.

Then he smiled and said to the Third Kazekage, "No problem. But I'd prefer this song to be donated under your name rather than mine."

This statement left both the Third Kazekage and Chiyo stunned.

After all, this was a great opportunity to gain prestige, yet Yato was giving it up so easily.

Seeming to notice their confusion, Yato explained, "I'm not from your village. This credit should go to Lord Third Kazekage."

This was because the Kazekage and Chiyo weren't familiar with Uchiha Yato's ways.

Returning to Orochimaru's little classroom:

When Uchiha Yato starts speaking respectfully, it means he's brewing mischief.

Someone is about to get unlucky!
