I sat on top of a random building in Toronto. I was closing my eyes while crossing my arms as I used my Mind's Eye to scan the entire city. I was trying to find any crime happening so I could dramatically save the day. But that was a bit easier said than done, my Mind's Eye had a limited range, Toronto is a big place after all. And since it's Ontario's capital there are a crap ton of people.
Using this ability in a large place surrounded by countless other people made my head spin, it's starting to hurt a little. Though it was bearable so it wasn't too painful to do. Still, it's going to be difficult to find any bad guys with the number of silhouettes I'm sensing, it was like Finding Waldo. Then again, if I wanted to find crime quickly, New York City is only a few minutes away, for me at least. But I wanted to have my debut here in Canada, it's where I live after all.
I clicked my tongue in frustration. Toronto is still a big city, and when there is a big city, crime eventually follows, but somehow today it's all quiet. Damn it, why can't someone rob a bank or blow up a hospital? I'm ready to kick butt! My concentration breaks as I throw up my hands utterly appalled.
I'm super close to flying to New York and saving the day there. I clicked my tongue as I closed my eyes one more time hoping to find any trouble. And then I sensed it, behind me, a couple of blocks away, two silhouettes closing in on another silhouette that was moving away seemingly freighted.
"Finally!" I jumped in the air before pushing myself to the air and rushed to the scene.
After a few moments, I arrived. Two masked individuals were approaching a woman who was backing away, her face fearful. The masked individuals were wearing your generic robber outfit. Ski mask, and large coats in the middle of summer. I don't get why they seem intent to look the same, couldn't be bothered to get creative.
I snorted internally as I saw one of the robbers was pretty short, a bit higher than my height, as opposed to his partner who was around my Dad's height. What is it bring your son to work day?
"Listen, lady, we're not trying to hurt you, we just want your money, this doesn't have to end with anyone getting hurt." The bigger robber tried to calm the woman down.
However, that failed since he was brandishing a steel baseball bat. The smaller one's body shook as he held a switchblade, it must be his first day. As the two robbers slowly approached the freighted woman who was screaming her head off, unfortunately, they were deep in a back alley. Nobody would come to help her. Though it must be my lucky day since I'm here.
They weren't aware that I was staring at them, probably because I was fifteen feet off the air and so I got closer. The frightened woman saw me first and gasped. As a result, the two robbers turned around swiftly and faced me, both of their blue eyes widened. I would be too if I saw some random kid floating in the air. Oh right, I should say something cool.
This is my debut, I got to build an image for myself. But what should I say? Think of something cool, come on think, brain, think! I say the one phrase that pops into my head.
"Stand ready for arrival, worm." I declared with a smirk, putting my hand on my hips and pumping my chest to emphasize the symbol on my chest.
The two robbers took a step back, but to their credit, they didn't start running away like I expected. Wait a minute, the phrase I just said something a supervillain would say! Dang it! Well whatever, I could work on a catchphrase later on, right now let's deal with these bozos.
"Fear not, citizen I'm here to rescue you! For I am...Big Justice!" I gave all of them a big grin as my feet finally landed on solid ground.
The bigger stooge blinked before his eyes narrowed, and he gripped his baseball bat tighter.
"Listen, we don't want any trouble. We'll just go." The big robber said, I could hear the fear in his voice despite his seemingly calm demeanour.
"Wha-Dad!" Smaller burglar shouts, clearly shocked, surprisingly the voice sounded feminine.
"We need the money! We can't just-"
One serious look made him shut his mouth. He carefully lays the bat on the ground, hands raised in the air, as he slowly shuffles away, bringing his arm in front of the smaller robber.
"Listen, please let us go, we weren't going to harm that woman, we just wanted her money, that's all."
Speaking off, the woman lay against the wall, her face seemingly conflicted. Back to the robbers, I felt a small tinge of guilt I'll admit, but it was overshadowed by the feeling of pride. People often look down on me because of my small size, but now I feel so strong.
"Let you go? Sorry criminal scum should've made better life choices like getting a job!" I shouted the last syllable and sped across the larger man.
He didn't even react when I was in front of him, his brain still did not comprehend it yet and before it got the chance to, my fist buried itself in the man's chest. You know I didn't know what to expect when I punched someone with super strength, I would've thought that would just knock someone out. Or maybe comically punch to the sky before landing in a jail cell, but reality is different from fiction. Instead, his body flew from my hand, his body became all but blurry before his back crashed into the wall where it created a crack. I froze, we all froze.
I-I hadn't meant to hit him that hard. His body slumped before falling to the ground, his body seemed to echo in the empty back alley. Time seemed to be frozen by everyone, nobody dared move or even make a sound. After a few moments though, the smaller robber slowly walked to the man.
"Dad?" He-no she removed her mask, giving me a good look at her.
Wait, I recognized her. She was the raven-haired girl with blue eyes that accidentally came to my room.
"Daddy?" She whimpers.
She drops to her knees adjusts the man's body into a sitting position and hesitantly removes his mask. A man with black hair and tanned skin met me, he just looked like a normal guy. Minus the large amount of blood leaking from his nose and mouth.
"Daddy! Please wake up, please!"
As the girl screamed for her father to wake up, my hand, the one I used to punch him, shook. I looked at it as my breathing became laboured. My eyes shifted to the woman who nearly got robbed, her eyes full of fear though it was no longer directed at the robbers but at me. I gulped and took a step forward.
"Ma'am-"
"Please..." She cut me off, whimpering as she raised her arms in surrender.
"Don't hurt me..."
I flinched, taking a step back. It was hard to breathe now, it was like someone wrapped their hands on my throat and started to squeeze. I looked at my hands, there wasn't anything on them. But I can't help but see them covered in blood. The woman suddenly spirited away, but I didn't stop her.
I felt sick, I felt like throwing up.
"YOU!" My attention on my hands broke and instead refocused on the girl who looked at me hatefully.
Her eyes filled with tears. She hated me, she hated at the bottom of her heart. She clenched her fist and I could've sworn her eyes started to glow. Then somehow my body started to float though not because I wanted to. What the heck?
I looked at the girl who thrust both hands in the hair directly at me and with a roar brought her hands down and my body followed it, crashing to the ground. My body hurt, not a lot but enough to make me dizzy. What in the world was that!? I groaned as I got back up, and tried to glare at the girl only to find her gone along with her dad. Quickly using my Mind's eye to spot the girl, she seems to have somehow run across the rooftops, with her Dad's silhouette floating behind her.
Wait, what she did do just now? She also has superpowers!? I needed to go catch them, but I stopped when I stared at the man's silhouette, not moving, only able to move due to her daughter's telekinesis. I looked at my fist and remembered how his body flew with one punch. Wait, is he even alive?
D-Did I just...kill someone? It was all too much, I gripped my hair while my heart pounded like a drum. I didn't want to be here, I wanted to go home, NOW! I jumped into the air and flew straight across home.
