Chapter 2 - Entering Floor 1

"Entering Floor 1."

The elevator shifts with an uneasy smoothness before the cold metal doors shift open with a light gust of air. I shiver in anticipation as I catch my first glimpse of Floor 1.

My first thought is that I've just walked into some sort of metal square, with no entrance, exit or furniture. I heave a massive sigh and step out.

I step into the cold metal room, and scan the ceiling and then the floor to make sure I havn't missed anything.

"What?!" I nearly shout, as I see two large metal trapdoors on the floor. They are nearly the identical shade to the floor, walls and ceiling, so before I took a closer look they could easily pass for part of the floor. I try to open them from the small indent that looks like it would be some sort of handle…but they're too strong! "But this looks like my only way out! If I can't get strong enough to open them…then I won't be able to get to Floor 2!"

But then something happens that makes me jump nearly two feet into the air. The trapdoors open soundlessly and two long, thin skeletons climb out. Their arms drag on the ground towards me, and their eyes are dull, staring into my soul. They look strong, much stronger than anything I've fought, and much higher than my skill level. I jump back in fright, trying desperately to widen the gap between us. "Well…I guess I know what the trapdoors are used for…"

I look at the bigger ones stats.

Then I look at the slightly smaller one.

Exactly the same stats as Skeleton Monster A! Well that's good at least. I suppose it's to be ected with lower level monsters like this. But then this brings much more worrying thought to my head. Oh great. A Level 5 when I'm Level 0…this isn't going to be easy. But luckily I have an attack of 1, and the skeletons just have 50 HP, if I play it safe and don't get hit once I should be able to beat these guys unscathed. But not getting hit once is a loss easier said than done when the skeleton's arms are longer than their bodies.

I walk around the skeletons, biding my time, repeating in my mind that one hit equals my death. Skeleton Monster B's eyes flash before it runs towards me. I don't have very high stamina, but luckily the skeleton is pretty slow so I'm able to dodge his attack without much trouble. But I'll have to get used to dodging, that's all I'll be able to do in this fight.

Now, more than ever am I wishing I could get those Level 100 stats back.

Skeleton Monster A runs at me, lucky for me he's as slow as Skeleton Monster B. I take another side step, but the skeleton's pointy finger nicks my cheek.

"Oof!" Thank goodness it wasn't a big enough attack to cost 1 HP! I can't afford to make another mistake…next time it will cost me my life.

I take a jump backwards and slowly start to circle the two skeletons, finding my bearings. I quickly appraise both of the skeletons.

They're not fast or particularly strong, but they are durable. It will take too long to quickly eat away at their health…they've gotta have a weak spot!

Got it!

A swift jap to the upper neck is an instakill! Nice!

I smirk as I quickly run towards the tall monsters. Now the only difficult part is getting close enough to give the fatal attack without getting hit myself.

I'm close enough to Skeleton Monster B now that I can hear its rattling breath…wait should undead even be breathing? Whatever, I don't have time for random questions like that right now. It's eyes flash red…which must mean-

It flings its arms towards me in a Skeleton Crash…that was a close one. If I hadn't jumped away at the same time it would have got me for good!

But now I've figured out its secret! Every time the skeleton is about to attack its normally black eyes flash bright red! Now that I've discovered this it will most likely make attacking them a lot easier!

I dodge Skeleton Monster B's undead clatter and then, when it's still recovering from its attack, run behind it…

"Eat cement Skeleton!"

BAM!

The skeleton's bones rattle underneath my hands and it quickly crackles to the floor, luckily for me I see green writing in the corner of my vision! That must mean I've gained erience! But before I can look more closely at my gained erience I hear another rattle… but this one sounds a bit more angry.

I slowly turn around, and find myself face to face with Skeleton Monster A… or what was Skeleton Monster A. It is now twice my height and its eyes are always red, and flaming in the corners. It takes a pointy hand towards my face and flexes its fingers showing off its new deadly looking claws.

"Oh. Great." I mutter under my breath before checking the Skeleton's stats again.

My day just got a whole lot worse. Skeleton Monster A is now Level 2, and its attack has gone up to 20! At least its HP is just 25…

I check to make sure it still has the weak spot on its back…

"Damn it!" I curse.

It has no noticeable weak spot!

I jump backwards, something tells me that the more space I have between me and this Skeleton Monster A (Rage Mode) the better!

I take advantage of my newfound space to look around the room. Maybe there's something I can use to fight the Skeleton? My eyes narrow… there's nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"Guess I'll just have to punch my way through!" I run at the skeleton with no clear attack plan in my head. My only thought is that if I don't do something Skeleton Monster A (Rage Mode) is gonna kill me, although he'll probably kill me either way, but at least I'll have put up a fight…right?

The skeleton wildly flails its arms trying to reach me, but lucky for it I'm faster…not by much though…

"Oof!" The force of wind from the skeleton knocks me off my feet. The skeleton quickly runs towards me, as I frantically try to crawl away, my feet too sluggish to stand. Skeleton Monster A (Rage Mode) is quickly catching up to my slow attempt of escape, and before I know it…he's right in front of me. I can smell his rancid breath, and hear his rattling bones clatter as he raises his fist, so close to giving me the final blow.

Wait. His red eyes have fire around them again, I could've sworn he didn't a couple minutes ago. That must be it! It must be similar to the Skeleton Monsters before Rage Mode, where their eyes would flash red when they're about to swing a hit but this time… it must be their weak spot!

I quickly jab my finger into the Skeleton's eye and it's arm that was going to hit me 1 second later falls limp at it's side. Soon its bones slowly start turning into a black smoke, its eyes are the last to disappear.

"Gotcha!" I yell, quickly jumping up from the floor. Another green light flashes in my vision and I eagerly check my stats.

Level 1! Lets go- wait…

I check my stats again.

Level 0.5!? That can't be right…well at least I got a skill…. Punch- not bad… Extreme Weakness? Hey isn't that a bit harsh? I was able to fight those skeletons! Well whatever I got a point in stamina and defence so that's good…still listed as a Weakling Hero…something tells me that's not going to change until a very, very long time.

Suddenly the metal wall in front of me peels back to reveal a silver elevator door, with a blinking arrow pointing up. I smile and walk towards the door.

The silver walls close around me and I'm left inside the quiet elevator. I caste a wary glance at the one small, black security camera in the corner before staring fixedly at the elevator doors.

The automated voice turns on with a low beep.

"Leaving Floor 1."

The elevator slowly shakes, and begins to sluggishly rise up. I lean against the wall of the elevator, waiting. After a couple minutes, the automated voice turns on again.

"Entering Floor 2."
