Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: Trapped in Desperation

As the thick mist rose, Anya knew her chance had come. Though she didn't know who among them had used such a reckless technique, it had undoubtedly saved her life. Without hesitation, she bolted. The only one at the scene capable of stopping her was Fuguki Suikazan. She was taking a gamble—that no one who'd barely survived would dare attack her now.

Unsurprisingly, Anya's gamble paid off.

After leaving the Stone House, Anya immediately slapped several explosive tags onto the wall. Without waiting to see the effect, she kept sprinting. Time was life itself—once she escaped the Mist village, she would have the entire world open before her.

The seven figures rushed out hastily, only to be met with a series of deafening explosions. One blast after another sent smoke billowing into the air. Rolling waves of heat rained down debris and brought walls crashing down. Before them lay nothing but ruins.

They exchanged glances. "Use ninjutsu to clear the path. Anyone who gets in our way dies."

[Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet]

The seven unleashed powerful jutsu in unison, blasting a clear path forward and chasing relentlessly.

Anya, having already escaped headquarters, sprinted straight toward the entrance of the Mist village. He now knew the layout well and chose the shortest route, leaping across rooftops. Soon, he had put significant distance between himself and his pursuers.

[Lightning Release: Lightning Strike]

A bolt of lightning shot from midair, striking precisely where Anya was about to land.

Sensing the danger, Anya stopped abruptly, changed direction, and kept running without looking back. The building below was instantly hit, collapsing under the electric assault. Its inhabitants had no time to react—lifeless in an instant.

"Fast, and ruthless too."

Back in Konoha, few ninjas would risk launching such reckless attacks. No wonder—Hidden Mist truly was different.

A series of long-range lightning strikes finally disrupted Anya's rhythm. His pursuers rapidly closed the gap. At this rate, escaping the village was nothing more than wishful thinking.

At that moment, a pill appeared in Anya's hand—the result of long research with Tsunade. Once released, its power was unpredictable. Even ordinary villagers caught in its range would surely die. After a flicker of hesitation in his eyes, he finally channeled a bit of his remaining chakra into activating it. When your life was on the line, there was no room for mercy.

The pill turned purplish-black, then exploded violently. Poisonous mist burst outward in all directions, cloaking him once again. Anya used the cover to widen the gap.

Hozuki Kisaragi rushed at the front of the pursuit. As soon as he touched the poison mist, his body seemed to melt away. Within moments, he had already lost ten percent of his chakra.

"Stop quickly! This is poison mist—it's extremely potent!"

"Damn it, how many hidden tricks does this guy have?"

"Let me handle it."

[Water Release: Great Shark Missile Technique]

A massive water-formed shark formed ahead. Controlled by chakra, the beast opened its huge jaws, inhaling all the airborne toxins. Instantly, the deadly mist blocking their path vanished completely.

The purple-black shark summon was now trapped mid-air inside a barrier. Master Gen stepped forward, his face twisted with rage. "I'll handle this poison. You lot chase the enemy. Bring him back at all costs."

"Yes, Master Gen." Several figures responded before rushing off once more.

"What a decisive little brat. What a vicious poison." For the very first time, a murderous gleam appeared in Master Gen's eyes. "Girl, take a good look. This is the man you like. Lucky he revealed himself, or he might've destroyed the entire Kiri in the future."

Terumi Mei, who'd remained expressionless until now, muttered under her breath: "You're all trying to kill him anyway. Can't you even let him defend himself?"

Though she whispered under her breath, Master Gen caught every word. He nearly demanded whose side she was truly on, but ultimately couldn't bring himself to speak further. He transferred the poison mist from within the barrier to an uninhabited area.

After much running, Anya finally approached Kiri's gates, where eight Mist ninja still maintained the barrier.

The seven pursuers behind him shouted loudly: "Stop him. Don't open the barrier."

Unfortunately for them, no one could hear anymore.

The Three-Comma Sharingan activated immediately. All eight Mist ninja simultaneously fell into Genjutsu, opening the barrier with synchronized hand seals.

"A Sharingan, huh? Truly impressive." Master Gen sensed the barrier at Kiri being broken and raised his wooden staff to activate the second layer.

But before he could raise it fully, Terumi Mei tightly gripped his staff. As Master Gen looked on in shock, Anya finally broke through the last obstacle and escaped from Kiri.

Anya's eyes returned to black while his chakra had nearly run out. He could no longer maintain the Sharingan. Worse still, overwhelming exhaustion coursed through his body, making him feel like he could collapse at any moment.

Looking at Terumi Mei, Master Gen sighed helplessly: "Ah girl, you're not saving him—you're dooming him. Every year so many ninja defect, but so few actually succeed. You don't seriously believe leaving the village means you're safe, do you?"

Upon hearing his words, Terumi Mei shuddered in alarm. Without saying a word, she rushed off in the direction Anya had fled.

Sure enough, Anya escaping the village caused no panic among the seven pursuers. Instead, they all turned their gazes toward Fuguki Suikazan.

Understanding immediately, he said: "Don't worry, I've already activated the traps outside the village. In his current state, there's no way he'll escape. I'll break every single bone in his body, one by one."

Hearing this, the others visibly relaxed, ignoring the Mist ninja affected by the Genjutsu as they chased after.

"Did I escape?"

Although he had passed through Kiri's gates, Anya's inner warning bell intensified, giving him a vague sense of unease.

No sooner had he taken a few steps than rows upon rows of long ropes shot out from the ground. Closer inspection revealed the ropes were practically covered in Explosive Tags. The coverage area was so wide that it completely blocked the only escape route from the village. At that moment, those explosive tags were already activated.

Damn! There were traps outside the village too.

Anya's eyes flashed with despair. Still not good enough?

[As soon as the Explosive Tags detonated, a heavenly voice rang in Anya's ears: "Ice Release: Demonic Mirroring Thin Ice."]

Countless icy mirrors encircled Anya like an unbreakable fortress, instantly reforming the moment they shattered under the blasts.

When the final Explosive Tag faded, a streak of crimson blood lingered in the air.

"Haku, you never listen," Anya growled, his eyes bleeding as he activated the Sharingan. Amidst the mist and dust, he spotted Haku and leapt to scoop her into his arms.

Haku's face was deathly pale, soaked in blood, every breath shallow, her life hanging by a thread.

"Tch, so there really is an accomplice. Ice Release too—could you be a descendant of *that* bloodline? Perfect, I'll eliminate both of you together." The approaching presence of the Seven Pursuers radiated overwhelming pressure, their killing intent plain.

Anya now stood at the edge of annihilation...
