Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Transmorpher

Creating puppets really wasn't something you could do without some natural talent. Take Kankuro's puppets from his teenage years — they were literally what Sasori had discarded as a child.

Anya had seen modern industry and possessed unmatched imagination within the Naruto world. Though young, Sasori had incredible hands-on skills. They talked nonstop, worked together constantly, and became super close — well, at least to Sasori they were. Lord Third really knew how to pick a good student this time.

Meanwhile, two figures silently observed from the shadows. A male voice spoke, "This actually is the first time, isn't it? Sasori's never played with someone this long before."

A female voice replied, "That kid treats Sasori as someone his own age. Sasori may think more maturely than other kids, but he does rely on us quite a bit."

The man continued, "Should we step in and help them? Honestly, I'm kind of excited about seeing a flying puppet."

"Let's wait. When Sasori asks for our help directly, then we'll act. Isn't this kind of research fun on its own?"

"You're right. Then let's go. Let them explore freely."

The moment those two left, Anya felt a change. He'd always known someone was secretly watching him, so these past few days he'd been especially careful, afraid of showing any weakness. The child before him must be no ordinary kid — the pressure from those two hiding in the shadows was intense. They were definitely top-tier opponents.

Sasori suddenly said, "My parents have already left."

"Huh?" Anya was slightly confused — how did this kid know?

Sasori smiled mysteriously. "I'm very sensitive to my parents' presence. Whenever they're nearby, I can feel it."

That's probably what people call family ties — something Anya couldn't understand. He pointed at several sketches and asked, "Out of these designs, which one do you think has the best chance of flying?"

Sasori picked up one drawing. "This one will struggle the most to fly, but I want to build it. Does it have a name?"

Looking at the pattern on the paper, Anya blurted out, "Transmorpher."

"What a cool name! Let's make this one!" Sasori seemed extremely excited, staring at the sketch repeatedly with joy.

Of course, kids loved transmorphers. But honestly, Anya had only mentioned it on a whim — he hadn't expected it to go anywhere. He couldn't resist interrupting, "But this is just a fantasy — there's no way it'll work. Let's start with something simpler, like a hawk."

Sasori pouted. "No! I don't want a hawk. I want this one!"

Looks like the kid was having a full-on meltdown.

Anya had plenty of ways to deal with little kids. Changing tactics, he suggested, "How about we build the hawk together, and while we work, I'll tell you stories about the Transmorpher. How does that sound?"

"Oh! There are stories too? Okay okay, I want to hear them!" Sasori's frown instantly turned into excitement.

"Alright then," Anya said. "Let's study hawks. While we work, I'll tell you stories."

"Okay."

Both of them were surrounded by scattered puppet components. Chakra threads filled the entire room, and under their coordinated finger movements, all the materials began assembling in an orderly fashion—reconstructing, reshaping, forming.

As she worked, Anya explained to him, "The Transmorpher I drew for you came to our world to protect us. He also has a mortal enemy known as the opposing Transmorpher."

In this way, Anya adapted and simplified parts of the Transmorphers' story, giving Sasori a rough explanation that captivated him completely.

Before long, through their combined efforts, a puppet eagle was completed.

Anya connected herself to the chakra thread and flew the eagle out from the house. With a whooshing sound, the eagle slowly lifted into the air. However, its speed frustrated her—the wind resistance at high altitude made the eagle extremely unstable, threatening to flip it over at any second.

She could only carefully maneuver it back indoors using her chakra.

Sasori asked with a grin, "How is it?"

Anya shook her head with some disappointment. "It's worse than I expected. It's fine for play, but for anything serious? That'd be reckless."

Upon hearing this, Sasori immediately understood Anya wasn't satisfied with the eagle. He became deeply interested and turned toward the other drawings: "Should I build another Transmorpher then?"

"It's not its fault," Anya mused for a moment before saying thoughtfully, "I think something's still missing inside it."

What was missing? Anya herself fell deep into thought.

Seeing his new big brother so troubled, Sasori suddenly had an idea: "Stop thinking about it. How about I show you something else fun?"

"Alright, might as well relax a bit." Anya agreed. There was no need to rush things; after all, even now, this eagle still proved useful, indicating they were on the right track.

Sasori created a rat-like puppet to lead the way, cautiously creeping forward with Anya behind, careful not to be discovered.

A bit puzzled, Anya quietly whispered, "Where are you taking me anyway?"

"Hush!" Sasori gestured to keep quiet, then quietly whispered beside Anya's ear, "This is Chiyo's secret room. She never allows outsiders in. I only stumbled upon it once by accident."

Chiyo's room—what could be there? Curiosity sparked within Anya immediately.

The little mouse puppet returned after scouting ahead, and Sasori led Anya toward a door deep inside the hallway. Then he switched to a bird puppet with a sharp beak, fiddled around a bit, and successfully unlocked the door.

They entered the room and Sasori lit up the lights. The entire room was filled with countless bottles and jars—it resembled a chemistry lab from a past life.

"What is this place?"

"This," Sasori said, "is where Chiyo makes poisons."

He casually picked up a bottle and pointed it out, "See, these labels on the bottles? This one here is slightly poisonous, while that one over there is extremely deadly."

Anya spotted a full bottle of red liquid—that was the one Sasori mentioned as being highly toxic.

Sasori said with a proud grin, "You see, these toxin mixtures are fascinating—some ingredients aren't toxic on their own, but when combined, they become extremely deadly. I often sneak in here to run experiments."

Poison—that's right! Sunagakure Village is also known for its use of poison. Poison was incredibly practical. It seemed like Sasori had actually brought her somewhere really good.

Anya smiled and said, "Looks like you can teach me how to recognize poison and how to counteract it."

"You're interested too? Of course, our tastes are the same after all." Sasori was delighted and immediately began explaining the properties and effects of various toxins stored in vials and flasks.
