Chapter 15 - Whispers of Maizel

Back in the tomb, Garfield sat before the mural again. The Library had given him tools. The experiments had given him proof.

Now he returned to the inscriptions he had first touched.

The Being whispered uneasily.

 "Child… there are truths that do not belong to mortals."

"Then I'll steal them," Garfield replied.

And as his hand pressed against the erased fourteenth name, something shifted. A crack split the wall, and faint whispers bled out—clearer now. Words that were not words.

The Being howled, glitching, its voice fracturing:

 "DO NOT—MENTION—THE FORGOTTEN—"

But Garfield only smiled. His path was set. The Tomb Maizel was no prison. It was his crucible. And from its depths, he would rise—not as heir to Turner, not as Duke, not even as man—

but as something the Architects themselves had once feared.
