Chapter 5: Veyl
I woke up from death, in my hands were the shattered space crystal uncle had given me. Turns out I had smashed it instinctively while I was in the void.
As expected I was teleported to the wild and for some reason it looked surprisingly calm. Back at Nexora-Daorin,rumurs had it that everyday in the wild was a chaos and death lurked at every corner waiting to devour your soul. This, well was the exact opposite the air was filled with six winged bladed butterflies, thier elegant colours filled the air spreading not pollen but fear, this was used to keep predators away.
Ren had killed my main soul the one that kept me alive was just wild souls. Mastering the laws of death didn't made me immune to it but gave me the chance to bend it to my will , and Once I mastered karma I would be able to live forever and might even replace the supreme entity itself. I taught to myself.
I was in taught when rustles came from behind, the world seem to have paused for a slight second giving me a chance of avoiding a deadly strike from behind. This stack was terrifying even at my current state I dare not underestimate this wild beast, it was a blind fox with two daggers on it's paws humanoid and slightly taller than me , it wore a skull mask, it's eyes were as dark as the void. I used ability to scan for the type of soul i would be harvesting ....wait it didn't have a it was typically useless to me.
After emerging from the void, my view towards life had changed, I was no longer sure of what I want, did I still want to be a prodigy from the LI clan and prove my worth or an immortal that would destroy the chess master and free the entire idea of existence from the board of a greedy daoist I think the latter was what I wanted.
I didn't want to waste my energy on some liability, but this was the right tool I needed to test my new found abilities.
I summoned my schyte and a dark aura enveloped me. The fox didn't look impressed instead striked me with blinding speed and this time the world didn't pause for me.
I managed to lean a little to the left avoiding the fatal attack, but not without a scratch it had hit me but the damage wasn't much.
Sure it had pissed me off, I launched an attack of pure brute force and speed . And upon inspection, the fox had already left that spot seconds before I came in contact .
This thing was surely something else. I attempted another attack but the fox had already left it's spot this thing was fast for sure.
"Slash" I felt it's dagger cut through my legs, where did it come from "slash" came another attack and again and again and again, my body was covered in blood and my regeneration had seemed ineffective to it's dagger, I was buried in shock, wasn't this the tool I wanted to use to test my Abilities??, I asked myself.
Turns out I would have to use side abilities that came with soul farming I wasn't planning on using this ability yet but looks like the abilities that would easily defeat a Nexora cultivator was no match compared to an experienced blades cultivator. With this thought in mind I released a dark barrier that would notify me if an empty shell was approaching.this ability consumed a large amount of dark mana. Yet still it was the only way I had to deafeat this thing.
The wild was indeed dangerous, if it were me few months ago I wouldn't survive it's first attack. I waited patiently for my prey to take the bait .
"Slash" again?? I asked myself this thing was truly demonic I couldn't sense it energy probably because it was not alive but still..." count ten Aim for it's mask" A mysterious voice cried I was out of strategies so heeding to the mysterious voice was the best chance setting aside the thought of not trusting the voice, I counted to ten and aimed my schyte to where my instincts instructed me to and"slash" I got it I said with a bright smile my first win.
I stared at the fading corpse of the fox .
I thought I had shattered it's mask but it was still intact and useful. with my appraisal ability I learnt that it was an undead material, like the schyte I owned.
Undead materials were were tools or weapons fused with laws laws of death, giving the wielder control over over a specific ability under the law. There usually came at a cost of striking consequences like the soul book, it kills the name that were written on it ,it usually came with the cost of the writer's soul. So it's basically a suicide call and it's hardly used.
The skull mask on the other hand is activated by the laws of death and would gradually consume the life force of it's wielder, if ever taken of would result to death it's definitely going into the void. Yep the void In which I woke up from woke up from, it's mine. I could store as many souls I as I wished including gadgets and laws like the dark orb stood for my law of death, I wonder what colours the laws of Emotion would be.
Okay now back to the voice that helped me in deafening the fast fox.
It was a handsome young man probably older than me , he had a human form two eyes, two ears, one nose, two hands and two legs, Blue skin and blue eyes .
"Thanks a lot man" he could speak human language. I'm impressed. That's something not all creatures could do.
But still I couldn't let my gaurd.
I pointed my schyte towards him,"don't thank me I wasn't helping" I said deviod of any emotions. "If you're looking for the capital I know a way there". He said clearly trying to bribe me. it was was tempting who knew the wild would have a capital.
His calm demeanor only made me uneasy. Blue-skinned beings weren't common in the Wild, and the fact that he knew the way to the capital meant he'd been there—or worse, had connections.
"I don't need a guide," I replied, though my grip on the scythe loosened slightly. My curiosity was louder than my caution.
Veyl smirked, reading my hesitation. "Suit yourself. But the Wild isn't as calm as you think. The butterflies? The fox? Just the curtain before the play starts."
That hit differently. I didn't trust him, but I also couldn't ignore him. If the capital was my next step, this man might be the fastest—path there.
As for trust, I'm sure it won't matter. judging from the fact that it was actually hiding from the fox meant that he didn't have much combat power. And his race only had great wisdom on thier side, And sure enough that was why he brought up the offer in the first place.
"Fine," I said, lowering the blade. "Lead the way. But try anything…" I let the dark aura flare briefly, just enough for him to feel the weight of my intent.
His smile only widened. "Good. You'll need me before this is over."
