Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Black Water Turtle

Chapter 8: Black Water Turtle

Li Tian followed the director through the Soul Hunting Forest, seeing all sorts of Spirit Beasts.

Every time they encountered one, the director would introduce it.

And the introduction was very detailed, including attribute specialties and even age identification.

"Director, what's the difference between Spirit Beasts and ordinary animals?"

This was something Li Tian had been curious about, both when he first read the original work and after his Transmigration.

Because poultry didn't have spirit rings after being killed.

The director explained, "According to research, animals are just like us humans."

"There's also a concept of Innate spirit power."

"Those without Innate spirit power cannot Cultivate, only those with Innate spirit power can become Spirit Beasts through Cultivation,"

Li Tian suddenly understood; this made sense.

"Rumble…"

As they walked, a sound of rushing water suddenly entered their ears; there should be a waterfall nearby.

Li Tian asked, "Director, should we go take a look?"

Turtle-type Spirit Beasts are absolutely renowned among defensive Spirit Beasts.

And turtles are divided into aquatic and terrestrial.

There's nothing wrong with checking out a water source; what if they got lucky and found one?

The director nodded, "Let's go."

Following the sound of water, the two quickly arrived at the bottom of a waterfall.

The waterfall wasn't high, only about five meters, but the water flow was very rapid.

The director said, "Turtle-type Spirit Beasts don't like rapid currents. We can walk downstream."

Li Tian naturally had no objections.

The two went downstream, walking for about five li, until the river merged into a deep pool.

The pool water was dark and bottomless.

The massive water flow merged into it without causing ripples, indicating there must be something hidden within.

The director glanced at the sky.

"Water turtles only come out to sunbathe when the sun is high. It's a bit late today."

"Let's spend the night nearby."

"Whether there are turtle-type Spirit Beasts below will be known by noon tomorrow."

They had entered already at noon.

After walking for so long, it was almost dusk. To determine if there were turtle-type Spirit Beasts below, the best way was to wait.

As for diving into the water to check, that was an extremely dangerous act.

Because no one knew what the situation was like underwater.

Whether the undercurrents were turbulent, and if they would drag a diver in, making escape impossible.

Whether powerful Spirit Beasts were lurking below.

These were all unknowns; rashly going down would likely lead to not even knowing how one died.

"Okay!"

Li Tian felt a little dejected. Other protagonists had suitable Spirit Beasts actively delivered to their doorstep.

Why did he have to wait like this?

It seemed he wasn't the protagonist, without the backing of a conceptual author.

He was just an ordinary Transmigrator.

To prevent Spirit Beasts from emerging from the bottom of the pool at night to cause trouble, the director chose to set up camp three li away from the deep pool.

Setting up tents, spreading insect repellent.

The director often brought students to hunt spirit rings, so he naturally knew this basic knowledge.

It was an uneventful night, without even any troublesome Spirit Beasts.

This made Li Tian even more certain that he was just an ordinary Transmigrator.

Otherwise, he should have encountered danger in the dead of night.

The director looked at the fiery red sun and said, "It seems your luck is good."

It was already quite hot early in the morning.

By noon, the temperature would only be higher; if there were turtle-type Spirit Beasts underwater, they would definitely come out to sunbathe.

Li Tian murmured, "I hope so."

After a simple meal and packing everything up, the two returned to the vicinity of the deep pool.

Next was a long wait.

Li Tian and the director hid in the canopy of a large tree, their gazes fixed on the deep pool.

The scorching sun gradually rose higher, and the temperature became increasingly unbearable.

Finally, a small something emerged from the pool water and crawled onto the shore.

It was an alligator snapping turtle.

Li Tian didn't know its exact name, but it looked very much like an alligator snapping turtle.

Its shell was aquamarine, and it was only the size of a football.

Its appearance broke the calm; one after another, alligator snapping turtles of various sizes emerged from the water.

Among them, the smallest were only palm-sized, while the largest were a full three to four meters long.

"It's a Black Water Turtle."

The director's eyes gleamed with excitement as he saw those adorable little creatures.

The Black Water Turtle was a top-tier defensive Spirit Beast.

They never expected to find a habitat by chance.

In the future, if they needed defensive Spirit Beasts, they could just come here directly.

Li Tian quietly asked, "Director, is this Black Water Turtle suitable for me?"

The director said, "It couldn't be more suitable."

"The Black Water Turtle is a top-tier defensive Spirit Beast; even a Millennium Spirit Beast might not be able to break through the defense of a Centenary Black Water Turtle."

"It is absolutely one of the best choices for defensive Spirit Masters."

The director scanned the area, then pointed to a large one that had just crawled ashore and said, "Centenary Black Water Turtles grow one meter every hundred years. That one, nearly four meters long, is perfect for you."

Upon hearing this, a glint of light also flashed in his eyes.

But in the next second, he wondered if the director could take down the Black Water Turtle, given how resilient it was.

Moreover, they were right by the water; they could slip away at the slightest movement.

If they escaped into the water, hunting them would likely be even more difficult.

The director clearly realized this problem as well.

He frowned, his expression indecisive, unsure of what to do.

Being resilient was one thing.

After all, the Black Water Turtle's shell wasn't perfectly sealed, but the key was being too close to the water.

Although the target Black Water Turtle was a bit further from the water's edge, it would take at most two or three seconds to get into the water.

Unless he could achieve an instant kill, it would be impossible to stop it.

Instant kill?

If it could be instantly killed, would it still be a defensive Spirit Beast? He wasn't some Spirit Emperor or Spirit Saint.

"Hmm?"

Li Tian and the director both turned their heads, only to see a blue light, emanating a cold aura, streaking through the air.

Its target was the deep pool.

The group of Black Water Turtles, sensing danger, quickly dove into the deep pool.

However, a few of the larger ones hadn't yet entered the water.

The blue light had already fallen into the deep pool, and the entire deep pool instantly froze into ice.

"Bang bang…"

Several large Black Water Turtles slammed into the ice layer, unable to escape.

"Roar!"

Accompanied by a roar, a giant python, as thick as a water bucket and over ten meters long, swiftly attacked.

From a distance, the giant python spat out a blue light, striking directly at the Black Water Turtle that was over five meters long.

The other Black Water Turtles, however, unfaithfully scattered and fled.

Facing the giant python's attack, the largest Black Water Turtle showed no panic at all.

Blue light shimmered on its body.

A mirror-like shield blocked its front, completely deflecting the giant python's attack.

"Go!"

The director, not bothering to watch the show, called out to Li Tian and chased in the direction the target Black Water Turtle was fleeing.

Li Tian didn't hesitate either and immediately followed.

However, his speed was clearly not as fast as the director's, and he could only watch his back gradually disappear into the distance.

The director seemed to have anticipated this.

Holding his Diamond Sword, he ran and swung his sword, leaving marks on the trees along the path.

To prevent Li Tian from getting lost.

"What the heck, what kind of turtle is this fast? Is this even reasonable?"

Li Tian cursed as he chased.

If it had such speed, it would truly be no injustice for the rabbit to lose to it.
