Chapter 10 - Crimson Awakening and Becoming Lab Rat

The next morning arrived with less groaning than expected.

The children who hadn't awakened their chakra yesterday were already up, stretching sore limbs and fastening their sandals. Determined faces replaced yesterday's anxiety. The sting of failure had turned into fuel. Today, they would try again.

Kazuki stood by the doorway of the orphanage, watching them shuffle out in small groups.

Azula slapped him lightly on the shoulder as she passed. "Try not to do anything outrageous today, prodigy boy. Leave some attention for the rest of us."

Kazuki gave a half-smile. "I'll do my best to be painfully ordinary."

"Good. I'd hate to have to trip you in public again." She smirked and walked off.

Once the younger ones had left, Kuroha approached. Her long hair was tied back in a high loop, and instead of her usual casual yukata, she wore a light jōnin-grade combat vest over a fitted training uniform.

"You won't be going with them today," she said lightly.

Kazuki blinked. "Did I do something… illegal?"

"Not yet," she said, walking ahead. "Come on."

The training ground she led him to was different — secluded, serene, far from the usual noisy spaces. The earth was compacted and scarred with old marks. The air carried a strange weight, as if it remembered battles from decades past.

Kuroha gestured to the open field. "Try reinforcing your body with chakra. I want to see your control."

Kazuki nodded. He stood still, calmed his breath, and let his chakra swirl from his core into his limbs — legs, spine, fingers.

Then—something snapped.

A cold flash surged through his skull.

His vision rippled, then sharpened. Every leaf, every grain of dirt, every flicker of chakra under Kuroha's skin bloomed into crystal clarity. It was like he'd been walking blind until now.

"…Wh—" he gasped.

Kuroha tilted her head. "Well, that's interesting."

Kazuki caught his reflection in a nearby puddle — two crimson orbs with a single tomoe spinning lazily in each.

"That's… the Sharingan." He touched his face as if making sure it was real. "One tomoe… really? That's it?"

Did all the trauma in my last life only get me a single tomoe? I refuse to believe my suffering was worth less than a minor visual upgrade!

Kuroha's eyes narrowed, studying him like a rare flower blooming out of season. "No trauma surge. No emotional trigger. It activated with chakra reinforcement," she murmured. "We need to talk to the elders."

Uchiha Main Estate – Later That Afternoon

Kazuki stood before a massive wooden gate marked with the clan's fan crest, deeper in the compound than he'd ever been.

"You'll be meeting the clan head and a few elders," Kuroha explained. "Stay polite, speak honestly. They won't bite."

"Unless I challenge one to a spar?" Kazuki asked.

"Then you'll be their training dummy."

Inside, the air was still and faintly scented with sandalwood. Tatami floors stretched across wide rooms. Ink-painted ravens decorated the sliding paper screens.

At the far end stood a stern man with neatly combed hair and hard eyes — Fugaku Uchiha.

Kazuki bowed deeply.

From the side room, a cradle's soft creak caught his attention. A chubby infant cooed under the watchful gaze of a young woman humming gently — Mikoto.

"That's… Itachi," Kazuki realized, eyes widening. He was just a baby. That meant the massacre was still years away — maybe twelve, maybe thirteen.

But then another thought hit him like a kunai to the gut.

The Third Shinobi World War is coming. And if things follow the path I remember… there's no avoiding the battlefield.

Uchiha Main Estate – Research Room

Kazuki had expected a short meeting, maybe a few questions, then being sent home.Instead, he was marched into a side building that smelled faintly of ink, parchment, and old sandalwood. Three more men were waiting alongside Fugaku.

"Elder Setsuna," Kuroha murmured to him quietly as they entered, "don't provoke him."The oldest man there — hawk-eyed, with a sharp jawline and a constant frown — stood with his arms folded. He radiated pure angry grandpa energy.

Next to him was Uchiha Rengoku, with a friendlier air and a faint smile that actually reached his eyes. And then there was Uchiha Yura, leaning back against a wall like the whole thing was optional, arms loosely crossed, his expression saying I could be napping right now.

Fugaku introduced him formally. "This is Kazuki, the boy I told you about."

Setsuna's gaze raked over him like he was appraising a defective kunai."So this is the one who awakened Sharingan without trauma."

Nice to meet you too, grandpa sunshine.

Rengoku gave a small nod. "Let's keep an open mind. He's still a child."

Yura just yawned. "As long as I don't have to work overtime."

Day One – The Tests Begin

It turned out "meeting" actually meant two days of being treated like a particularly interesting insect under a magnifying glass.Kazuki was made to channel chakra into his limbs, eyes, and even individual fingers while elders scribbled notes. They made him run, stand still, hold his breath, close his eyes, and even chew while they "observed fluctuations."

Kuroha had left after dropping him off, citing "orphanage duties." Kazuki now understood the real meaning of abandonment. If it wasn't for Mikoto appearing at lunch with rice balls and warm miso soup, he suspected they'd have tested how long he could survive without food.

If Mikoto didn't feed me, these people would absolutely let me starve for 'data.'

By the evening of the first day, Kazuki had already reached some important scientific conclusions:

Mikoto was really gentle and older-sister-type beautiful.

Mikoto was a really good cook.

Mikoto was stunning.

Mikoto had the patience of a sage.

Itachi — currently a baby — cried a lot. Wasn't he supposed to be the quiet type in canon? Did I break the timeline already?

When Kazuki asked for results, Fugaku merely said, "We'll continue tomorrow." Which translated to: We're not telling you anything yet, lab rat.

Day Two – The Results

By late afternoon, the elders finally gathered around him.

Setsuna spoke first, voice sharp as ever. "We've confirmed it. Your chakra is pure Yin."

Kazuki tilted his head. "Pure… Yin?"

Rengoku explained more evenly, "Most shinobi have a balanced mix of Yin and Yang chakra, Mostly leaning toward one side, and Uchiha clan members lean towards Yin side. Alongside that balance, they have elemental affinities — Fire, Wind, Lightning, Water, Earth. Most Uchiha favor Fire, sometimes Wind or Lightning. Water and Earth are rare for us."

Yura lazily waved a hand. "You have none of that. No Yang at all, no elemental nature. Just… pure Yin."

Mikoto's voice was gentle but firm. "That means you'll have incredible potential in illusions, perception, and spiritual manipulation. Your genjutsu will be monstrous, and your Sharingan will evolve naturally without the usual… emotional triggers."

Kazuki's eyes widened. "No trauma needed?"Setsuna grunted. "Exactly. But don't get cocky. Every advantage has a drawback."

Fugaku's gaze was steady. "The drawback is simple. No Yang chakra means you cannot perform ninjutsu. At all."

Kazuki frowned. "How come?"

Yura explained, "Doing ninjutsu consists of two things: chakra control and chakra nature transformation. But for you, Kazuki, although your chakra control is impressive, you can't do chakra nature transformation because your chakra is already pure Yin type."

So… I can break minds but not throw a fireball. Figures.

Rengoku continued, "Yang chakra fuels the body's physical energy. It reinforces muscles, aids regeneration, and allows elemental transformation. Your chakra control is excellent, but you'll never perform elemental ninjutsu." He paused thoughtfully. "Although it's not clear how your pure Yin chakra is able to reinforce your body better than most of us, it's certain that, Kazuki, you possess great taijutsu talent along with genjutsu talent."

Mikoto added softly, "But your sensitivity to chakra makes you an excellent sensor. You might even sense malice in others."

Setsuna, of course, wasn't satisfied. "One more test."He drew a kunai and, before Kazuki could react, made a shallow cut on the boy's palm.

"Hey!" Kazuki hissed."This will show us your regeneration speed without Yang chakra," Setsuna said calmly, ignoring him.

The elders and Fugaku all stared at his hand as if watching a rare insect molt. After a few minutes, they nodded. Rengoku said, "Slightly slower than average, but not enough to hinder you."

Setsuna wasn't done. "Now we test healing jutsu compatibility. Yang-based healing might reject you."

Mikoto stepped forward, kneeling beside him. "Tell me immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, or anything unusual. We'll stop right away."Kazuki nodded, oddly comforted by her presence.

Green chakra glowed from her palms as she pressed them over his cut. Fugaku, the elders, and Mikoto all activated their Sharingan to observe the process. The warmth seeped into his skin, the cut knitting together smoothly.

"No discomfort," Kazuki said finally.

Yura chuckled. "Lucky brat. Some of us hate the tingle."Setsuna gave a sharp nod. "Compatible. Good. That's all."
