With the main house arc wrapped up, it's time to take stock of the madness so far. The phantom Eveline's antics have probably left some heads spinning, so I've compiled the current setting, including clarifications from reader comments. Hope you enjoy this rundown!
Ethan Winters
The carefree protagonist, blissfully unaware that the phantom Eveline trailing him is a remnant of the chaos's true source. Eveline's presence gives him mental leeway, turning him into a reckless whirlwind who'll "use anything that works." He's noticed his body's unnatural resilience but shrugs it off—if I'm alive, good enough. Eveline's slip-ups? He doesn't get them, so he doesn't care. Jack, though? He's getting punched. Ethan assumes Eveline is an orphan Mia babysat, taken in by the Bakers, abused, and now a lingering ghost with regrets.
Current Gear:
Pocket knife
Handgun
Shotgun
Broken shotgun (used as a club)
First-aid kits ×4
Lockpicks ×2
Scorpion key
Three Cerberus reliefs
Zoe's kid-sized backpack (carrying everything but the knife and handgun, slung over his right shoulder)
Codex
Phantom Eveline
The de facto protagonist of this tale. This is the very same Eveline from BIOHAZARD VILLAGE [EvelineRemnants], not post-main story but from some point in its timeline. Still a lovable screw-up. She's "retraced" time using a secret trick to fulfill some purpose, zipping across the sea between Louisiana and who-knows-where at breakneck speed, retrying over and over. Ethan calls her self-centered, barely remembering names like Clancy, Hoffman, or Travis despite mentioning them. Limited to giving advice or nudging Ethan, she's fine with his rampages since they're convenient, though her nonexistent stomach aches from stress. Her stance? "As long as Ethan doesn't get mangled, whatever." Yet, she deeply regrets her past, apologizing to Jack and Zoe.
Mia Winters
Ethan's wife, once abandoned by him in this story. Practically the root of all evil in Resident Evil 7. Eveline harbors complex feelings toward her. No major changes yet.
Zoe Baker
Ethan's guide through this nightmare. Unlike others, she's not just unfazed—she's a bit freaked out by Ethan's relentless beatdowns on Jack but trusts him more than in the original game… maybe?
Jack Baker
The Baker family patriarch, currently the biggest victim of Eveline's influence. His grudge against Ethan, who keeps pummeling him, runs deep. His suffering so far:
Shot in critical spots
Shovel stolen, neck snapped
Face smashed with a door, nose bent
Showered in sparks
Double shoulder tackle to the gut
Run over repeatedly by a car
Head crushed by a steel beam (self-inflicted)
Caught in an explosion and burned
Head shot point-blank (self-inflicted)
Ruthless groin kick
Blasted by a dust explosion
Shotgun to the face
Smashed with a chair to the head
Hit with a VCR
Electrocuted with a TV to the head
Head stomped with full body weight
Knocked out with a surprise face punch
Face slammed with a door in the grandmother's room, agonizing him
Knocked out with a denture punch and locked in the grandmother's room
Ambushed with a potted plant while trying to trap Ethan with the relief
Tricked into falling into a cage, shot with a shotgun, crushed by meat sacks and a desk
Fought in a bloody chainsaw duel, legs severed, head split, and exploded
Talk about overkill.
Marguerite Baker
Her cooking got roasted by Eveline. Can't be helped.
Lucas Baker
Hasn't done much yet but is already pegged as dangerous by Ethan, thanks to Eveline's warnings. Eveline fears him most. Puts Tabasco on Marguerite's food. Had his arm cut off and tossed in a trash can but shrugged it off, grabbed it, and wandered off.
Mysterious Old Lady
Who the hell is this Something-lene? Nearly killed by Eveline's murderous intent but survived with her subconscious-manipulating powers. Taking heat for her dentures and head-fungus rumors. Ethan's muttering freaks her out: "Wait, am I projecting illusions? What's with this guy, talking to himself and going berserk? Scary…"
Clancy
Mentioned by Eveline as her favorite. She felt bad watching him writhe from Marguerite's cooking.
Hoffman
Another Eveline mention. All she recalls is him screaming and dying after being dismembered.
Travis
The guy who became the Blade Molded that killed Ethan, scoring a major point. Probably Courtney's boyfriend.
Zombies and J'avo
Grunts from Resident Evil 2, 3, Degeneration, and 6. No one's unaware of the Raccoon City, Harvardville, or 2013 China biohazard disasters.
Giant Freakin' Lady
Probably Lady Dimitrescu herself. Eveline finds her scarier than Jack.
Continue
Eveline's mysterious power, exclusive to her phantom state. Each time Ethan dies, she "retraces" to just before, resetting the moment. Some memories linger in Ethan briefly but fade. The depicted resets were flukes where Ethan retained fragments—truth is, she's redone this dozens of times.
Jack's damage tally is so brutal, even I'm reeling writing it. By the way, the Harvardville incident ties to FGO/TAD's shared world, but this Eveline isn't a Servant or anything. That'd be fun for a collab someday, though!
