Chapter 83 - Shatter Illusion

Renn contemplated his next move for the quest given by his personal System. He had been tasked with saving people from an organization of demons.

But Renn didn't know demons existed in this world. He had a gut feeling about them, but he had never actually seen any demons, so he had assumed this world posed little threat beyond the monsters around him.

Renn had expected to simply kill all the monsters, save all the people, and find peace to live a life like novel characters—surrounded by many girls. But his dream was now shattered; he had to deal with demons.

Renn had never heard of them or learned about them. He had always thought the main threat to this world was Aeren. But now, Aeren seemed like a minor character compared to these demons' power.

Was Aeren always connected with demons, gaining power from them? Is that why he's so strong, or is he a demon himself? Renn didn't think Aeren was a demon, or his system would have informed him. But Aeren definitely had some connection with demons. How had he been able to find them? Was he some kind of intermediate villain, like in novels?

Fuck it. I've read too many novels. I felt like I'd entered a novel world and was enjoying being the main character. And I have an overpowered system that makes me invincible.

Renn thought about his past life and his main character vibes, viewing Aeren as just another intermediate villain—one of his stepping stones. He was feeling proud of his MC status when he heard a voice from behind.

"Senior Renn!"

Arin called his name. Renn had been feeling good about protecting the world and felt happy inside. He turned back and saw Arin with confusion. Renn had met him before but hadn't thought much of him at the time. But after learning about demons, he started considering other characters' roles around him.

He must be some kind prince among them, wanting to protect his people. He probably heard about my good deeds through his informants and may already know about the incident that's going to happen, so he came to ask for my help.

As Renn indulged in his main character fantasies, feeling proud from the inside out, a smile emerged on his face as he addressed Arin.

"What is it, Junior Arin?" Renn smiled, wanting to help. He had already convinced himself he was the main character, and main characters never die. So he was confident about winning.

Renn had started believing he could win any fight now.

"Senior Renn, I want to tell you something you won't believe."

Arin glanced at Renn, whose smile brightened at his words. Seeing his happy expression made Arin confused.

Renn couldn't control his smile—it was like he had predicted everything about this world's POV. But Renn didn't let his guard down because he knew that even main characters could die if they met someone they couldn't handle. Even if he was the main character, he couldn't defeat every being at such a young age. And this is the real world.

This world doesn't care if you're a main character or not. Reality is much crueler than illusion. Renn's face became serious as he forgot about his happy main character fantasies.

"You can tell me, Junior Arin."

Seeing his serious tone, Arin felt relief that he now looked stable. Arin had almost given up on telling him.

Arin took a deep breath and explained everything about the 'worms' that were traveling through their nation. He had killed many worms, and Arin explained that if they weren't able to stop them, disaster would fall over the city and people would die everywhere.

Arin did know about the 'Demon God,' but since he hadn't come to the capital this time, he didn't mention him. Arin just told him about the general's subordinates—Alice and Roan.

These two had terrorized the entire area. Roan had never lost a single fight and had destroyed academies, even killing students in the process.

Arin believed that if he and Renn fought together, they would be able to defeat him.

After hearing everything from Arin, Renn suspected that Arin possessed more knowledge than a normal prince should have.

Renn's curiosity about Arin increased until he couldn't contain it, and he directly asked his system: What do you think, System? How does he know this much? Is it possible for informants to find such detailed information?

System Message:

Host, he is a regressor.

Renn's eyes went wide at the System's words. Fuck, does that mean he's the main character?

Renn's dreams about being the main character shattered, and he asked again: If he dies again, will he be able to regress again?

System Message:

Yes, Host.

Renn stared at Arin for a few seconds, thought many things through, and accepted his fate.

"Okay, I believe you, and I'll help you."

Arin's heart felt at ease after hearing him, and a smile emerged on his face. He felt like he had already saved many people around him.

Arin shook his head. "Thank you, Senior Renn. I'll repay you for this."

Renn nodded with sadness on his face, said nothing, and left to search for anything suspicious around the stage and other places.

Arin watched Renn leave, then heard a voice from behind: "Arin, what are you doing here alone?"

Selevara spotted Arin from a distance and thought about meeting him to help with any work he'd been assigned. But when she saw his smiling face, her heart skipped a beat, though she didn't show it outwardly.

Selevara had liked him since childhood, along with Adelind. But Adelind had higher status and had directly arranged her marriage with Arin. Now Selevara didn't know how to approach Arin with a marriage proposal.

Arin looked at her. "Nothing, I'm just a little excited about the festival event and want to see new talent from around the world."

Selevara smiled at him and nodded. She joined Arin and they started exploring the night festival, shopping around the area.

The Night Festival looked beautiful in the darkness, with lights shining everywhere. It was like heaven had descended to earth to observe mortal people.
