Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Battle

"Count Benedict, lead the way."

"Yes, my lord."

Count Benedict informed them of the exact location of each enemy.

The Talent possessed by Count Benedict was a Talent that granted him the ability to see the world from the perspective of both living beings and inanimate objects.

By using this ability, he could gather information about the target such as height, skills, weaknesses, specialization, and more.

In addition, this Talent had the ability to calculate the number of objects within an area. It had even been further improved to the point where Count Benedict could ascertain the total number of objects up to hundreds of thousands.

That was the ability of a B-rank Talent known as Through Another's One.

Because of this, he could give Marquis Vallerstein the exact number of enemies.

Count Benedict activated his ability to determine the enemies' positions.

"Count Ebonile, at one o'clock there are three hobgoblins. The other two are near the Goblin King at eleven o'clock."

"You all heard that? Two of you come with me. I'll take on those three hobgoblins. As for the rest, lure the other hobgoblins towards me."

Count Ebonile's unit, numbering ten people including himself, shouted in unison.

"Yes, sir!"

"Count Dunhaven, your section isn't too far from the Goblin King either. It seems they're gathering and are unprepared."

"Understood, let's make use of that. Let us march, my soldiers!"

"Now it is your part, Lord Vallerstein. As always, you are the one who will eliminate the Boss."

"Yes, thank you for your hard work. Thanks to you, we can know the location of each enemy with ease."

"Hey, Michelle. Let's go."

"Yes, dear!"

The Marquis and his wife departed together toward the Goblin King.

What remained now was Count Benedict's unit.

"Now it is our turn. The goblins are scattered into three groups: to the left, in front, and to the right of us. Therefore, we shall divide into three groups."

Count Benedict pondered for a moment as he activated his Talent.

Afterward, he divided them into three groups.

"Alright, my group will face the ones in the center since they are the most numerous."

"Gio, your unit will take the ones on the right."

"And Jean, your group will handle the rest."

After assigning each group, Count Benedict continued, "As Marquis Vallerstein said earlier, do not let your guard down just because they are weak! I want you all to return safely!"

Count Benedict's soldiers cheered loudly at his words.

----------------------------------------------------------

The perspective shifted to Count Ebonile's group.

"Oh, there they are!"

What Count Ebonile saw were goblin-like creatures standing over two meters tall. They were clad in full armor, each wielding a different weapon—one carried a greatsword, another a spear, and another a mace.

"As usual. Rize, cast your buff on me."

"And Nichole, assist me in attacking them."

"Understood!" the two replied in unison.

Count Ebonile activated his skill, Taunt. The skill drew the attention of the three hobgoblins, increasing their aggro towards him.

"Hey, bastards. Take this!"

Count Ebonile dashed forward with incredible speed, swinging his shield upward from below and striking the chin of the hobgoblin wielding the greatsword.

The strike rang out with a loud sound.

But—

The hobgoblin was not seriously injured.

Though goblins were generally known as a weak race, hobgoblins were the exception. Moreover, these hobgoblins were born in a place overflowing with magical particles, making them stronger than monsters found elsewhere.

The hobgoblins that Count Ebonile faced were above average monsters. They carried a threat level equivalent to B-rank, which was exceedingly rare in other locations.

Of course, monsters that strong would not be defeated easily.

The hobgoblin swung its greatsword at Count Ebonile, sending him flying dozens of meters back.

Sensing the danger of the strike, the Count activated his skill Indestructible Fortress before the blow could land. If he had not used the skill, his body might have been cleaved in two.

The Count stood back up and said, "Damn, you're really strong, huh!"

From the beginning, Count Ebonile's job class was not that of a damage dealer, but rather a tank. Thus, it was understandable that his attacks did not deal significant damage to the hobgoblin.

In the next instant, Count Ebonile dashed forward and punched the hobgoblin in the stomach.

Unlike before, this time it was the hobgoblin who was hurled dozens of meters away. Even the hobgoblin with the mace standing behind him was caught in the impact and thrown back as well.

The hobgoblin staggered to its feet, green blood pouring from its head. Its expression was dazed, unsure of what had just happened.

"How does it feel to taste your own attack? Feels good, doesn't it?" Count Ebonile mocked.

The hobgoblin didn't understand what the Count was saying, but one thing it knew—it was being mocked.

The faces of the hobgoblins twisted in anger.

The Talent possessed by Count Ebonile was one that made him stronger the longer the battle lasted.

The skill he had just unleashed upon the hobgoblin was called Mirror of Reflection. It was one of the skills granted by his Talent known as It Is Been a Long Time.

Thus, the longer the battle dragged on, the stronger the Count would become.

His enemies had to defeat him before he surpassed their strength—whether by knocking him unconscious or killing him.

The three hobgoblins attacked the Count simultaneously. However, he endured thanks to Nichole's support and Rize's buffs.

The battle raged on for five minutes, the Count maintaining a defensive stance throughout.

The hobgoblins were tough; they traded blow after blow, yet both sides still stood.

At last, the Count grew strong enough to slay them with just a few attacks.

He killed two of the three hobgoblins, leaving one alive. When only one remained, he held back, delivering weaker strikes.

The reason he left one alive was because he did not want the effect of his strengthening ability to fade.

Earlier, he had ordered his subordinates to lure the two remaining hobgoblins toward him. And now, the moment he had awaited arrived.

Several of his men came running toward him, two towering hobgoblins over two meters tall hot on their heels.

Count Ebonile grinned and laughed at the sight.

He dashed forward with incredible speed toward the hobgoblins and slew them one by one.

Moments later, the aftermath of their battle was plain to see—trees toppled, massive craters scattered across the battlefield.

"Seems I went overboard again," he muttered.

Then he added, "Do your job, mages."

The earth mages immediately set to work. They repaired the ground, filling in the craters, and moved the fallen trees aside.

Though imperfect, it was far better than before.
