Chapter 89 - Showing The Way

What the old butler said drew a small laugh out of me despite myself .

"You've been reading those philosophy scrolls, haven't you?"

He looked pleased with himself.

"Elder Harun lends me some when he visits. He said I might find comfort in them."

"He's not wrong," I admitted. "Sometimes I think he's the only one here who actually sees people."

Orresh poured tea into my cup, his hands steady.

"And you, Master Micah, are one of the few who pays attention to others who are not seen."

I sighed.

"Sometimes I wish I didn't. It brings too many responsibilities, when you know than when you don't."

He didn't respond, only placed the teapot down quietly and left me to my meal.

By the time I reached mid way to the training field the next day, my team had gathered and were walking together. Jao glanced behind and noticed me first, his smile glinting in the early morning.

"Well, look who woke up ready to kick ass," he called. "Ready for the drilling Mehmet is sure to give us?"
