Chapter 24 - The Invitation

The city slowly returned to normal after Christmas.

People went back to work.

Children returned to school.

The streets became busy once again.

But inside the Government Security Center...

The atmosphere was completely different.

Alexander's face was displayed on a giant screen.

Around the table sat the city's most powerful politicians, military commanders, scientists, and security officers.

Nobody spoke for a while.

Finally, one officer broke the silence.

"We have been watching him for weeks."

"He has done nothing wrong."

Another officer stood up.

"He goes to the same game center almost every day."

"He wins every game."

"He takes only enough money to buy snacks and juice."

"Then he goes home."

A scientist added another report.

"He has no identity."

"No birth record."

"No school record."

"No family."

"No history."

"It is as if he appeared from nowhere."

The room became quiet again.

One young politician slammed his hand on the table.

"This is enough!"

"We should arrest him before it's too late."

Several people nodded.

But the oldest politician slowly stood up.

His white hair and calm face made everyone listen.

"No."

The room fell silent.

"If this young man truly has the power we believe he has..."

"Then attacking him would be the greatest mistake we could ever make."

He slowly looked around the room.

"Has he harmed anyone?"

"No."

"Has he threatened anyone?"

"No."

"Has he broken any law?"

Again...

"No."

The old man folded his hands behind his back.

"Then we will not treat him like an enemy."

One scientist looked confused.

"What should we do?"

The old politician smiled.

"We invite him."

Everyone stared at him.

"Invite him?"

"Yes."

"If he accepts..."

"We talk."

"If he refuses..."

"We continue watching."

"And if he becomes dangerous..."

"Then we prepare."

Nobody argued.

His decision became the final order.

...

The next morning...

Alexander left the house as usual.

Aiona smiled as she followed him to the door.

"Don't forget."

Alexander looked at her.

"What?"

"My favorite juice."

Alexander gave a small nod.

"I'll bring it."

He quietly walked away.

Not far behind him...

Two black cars slowly followed.

Inside them were government agents.

They kept a safe distance.

They had only one job.

Watch.

Nothing more.

Alexander walked into the Giant Arcade.

Bright lights flashed everywhere.

Children laughed.

People cheered as they played different games.

Alexander calmly walked to his favorite machine.

He placed in one coin.

Less than a minute later...

A perfect score appeared.

The workers sighed.

"He's here again."

Alexander smiled politely as he collected his prize.

He played another game.

Another perfect score.

Then another.

Then another.

The agents watched everything.

One of them whispered,

"How does he do that?"

Another shook his head.

"I don't know."

Alexander collected his prize money.

He bought a bottle of juice.

A few snacks.

Then carefully folded the remaining money and placed it inside his pocket.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

One agent quietly smiled.

"He really is an unusual person."

...

Later that afternoon...

Alexander was walking home.

Suddenly...

A black car slowly stopped beside him.

A man wearing a black suit stepped out.

He politely bowed his head.

"Good afternoon."

Alexander looked at him.

"Good afternoon."

"My name is Daniel."

"I've come on behalf of the City Council."

Alexander waited quietly.

Daniel took a deep breath.

"Our leaders would like to invite you to a peaceful meeting."

"There will be no weapons."

"No fighting."

"We only wish to speak with you."

Alexander looked into the man's eyes.

He could tell Daniel was nervous.

Very nervous.

After a few seconds...

Alexander gave a small nod.

"I'll come."

Daniel let out a quiet sigh of relief.

"Thank you."

"I'll return tomorrow morning."

He bowed once again before leaving.

...

That evening...

Alexander returned home.

Aiona immediately noticed something was different.

"What happened?"

Alexander placed the juice on the table.

"The government invited me."

Aiona blinked.

"They finally made a move."

"They want to talk."

She became quiet for a moment.

Then she smiled.

"I'm coming with you."

Alexander looked at her.

"They didn't invite you."

"I know."

"I'm still coming."

Alexander could already tell...

There was no changing her mind.

He simply nodded.

"Alright."

Far away...

Inside the Government Security Center...

The old politician stood before the large window.

He looked out over the city.

"I hope..."

"We're making the right choice."

Behind him...

A scientist slowly walked into the room carrying a very old file.

His hands were shaking.

"Sir..."

"I think we've found something."

The old man turned around.

"What is it?"

The scientist slowly opened the file.

Inside was an ancient photograph.

The man in the picture...

Looked exactly like Alexander.

The date written beneath it...

Was thousands of years old.

The old politician's face slowly changed.

"That's..."

"Impossible."

The room became silent.

To be continued...
