Chapter 35 - (A2) Vestiges Of The Past

Matthew: You can see us...??

As one of the spectres from the past spoke, it sent a chill down Chuck's spine. His eyes watered up, and somehow his blind hope actually felt attainable. The family and friends that he had thought had died were right in front of him. He was overjoyed.

Chuck: You...guys are alive!!

Chuck started bawling his eyes out and ran to them. His uncle who was at the forefront raised his palms to stop him.

Matthew: I don't think so son...stop it...

But Chuck didn't care. He just wanted to hug his uncle and feel the warmth of the family member he missed a lot.

As Chuck jumped to hug him, happy with tears, he was rejected by fate itself. He was rejected the right to be with a loved one. Chuck just went through his uncle as if he were an invisible mirage. Chuck fell on his nose and it instantly started bleeding. He turned to see that his arms were through the others' feet, and the images were translucent. He lifted his head up and looked at the plain faced folks.

Chuck: ....Why..?? No...

Matthew: I'm sorry Chuck....I think we really are dead...

Chuck couldn't take this anymore. First they vanished and he had survived by himself for two weeks in an empty village. Then he eventually began worrying that they might actually be dead. It was CONFIRMED to him by Savanta a few minutes ago, and Chuck was proven right. All the hope he had was destroyed already. Yet, when he saw them again, a flicker returned. The feeling of wanting something returned too. But even though they were right there, he couldn't hold them one last time. It was as if God locked him in a dark room, but kept dangling an intangible key in front of him to see him despair.

Chuck: No...you are not...you are right in front of me...I can see you!! You are not dead!! Please...!! No...

Matthew: I hate to break it to you...but we are just...vestiges of what we were before...

Chuck: No...no...

Another villager spoke from the back.

???: Chuck....I'm sure we are dead. No one can see us except you and that blue eyes kid. For some reason...

Matthew: When that bomb went off, we all perished. And I believe he told that it splits the soul from the body right. I guess that's how we still exist!!

Chuck: How do you know all that..??

Matthew: We were....always with you...Chuck. looking after you...We were with you...everywhere you went..

Chuck thought of all the possibilities. He then sort of started understanding. The bomb Box splits the body and soul and disintegrates the body. Somehow the souls of all the dead still existed to provide Chuck with some necessary help.

He wasn't able to see them until now, even though they were around him. And he might've started to see them now, possibly because he he could use the magic book now. Maybe his spirituality increased. Max on the other hand could always see them, because he had that special blue ringed eyes. Chuck also remembered Max saying that he saw a bunch of people along with the man with a monocle, that is Uncle Matthew, in the forest, after they all died. So, it was just Max seeing ghosts and freaking out.

Chuck: Since, you all are here...maybe we can all escape..maybe you can possess someone!!

???: I hate to break this to you kid,...but I don't think we have long...I can already feel my life force giving away. We are desperately holding on...

Matthew: And for some reason, it's really hard to focus on emotions,, as the dead don't need feelings. It's like we don't even care anymore. We are trying our best though...

Chuck: What are you guys saying....??

Chuck realised that soon they will be gone..Chuvk had them right in front of them, yet so far away.

Chuck: No...I can't let you guys go...no....I can save you..

Matthew: Isn't there someone else you should be saving right now??

Chuck raised his head, still with tears in his eyes..

Matthew: People that are alive...??

Chuck sniffled and started thinking about Max, Melissa and Lin. There was also the Samurai fighting on their side too.

Chuck: But..

Matthew: No BUTS!!!

Matthew shouted at his nephew. Chuck was scared for a moment as Matthew's eyes were red. He was angry.

Matthew: You can't be late mid!! I know you are still young, but there are stuff that you can do too!! Right now...that Max kid is dying. And if you don't hurry, everyone else will too...now who do you protect?? The ones that are dead and passing or the ones' that are currently alive and counting on you??

Chuck understood what he meant. It was hard to accept, but they were gone. He was still a kid unable to decide what's right. But he didn't want anyone else to die because of him. He had to save Max. He had to save everyone else. So Chuck stood up on his knees.

Mattbew: It's taking everything we have just to talk to you...even the Max kid couldn't hear us...that's why most of us are quiet.

Matthew smiled looking at Chuck

Matthew: But....I know you my dear Chuck. Even when you are this young...you are the kind that wants to do good and never gives up..

Matthew smiled and looked at his nephew proudly. Chuck was on his feet and was conjuring the fireflies again. He was ready to save everyone. For now, he had to focus on the matter at hand.

He started running towards the sounds. The fireflies were leading him to a safe path. Chuck saw that all the villagers were floating in the air beside him, helping him with directions.

Matthew: By the way....there is a room ahead.....and in that room I saw another Ancient Tome!!

Meanwhile in a place that resembled a junkyard, was Lin. This was where they threw all the wasted items and useless stuff from the castle, from the looks of it. Savanta bad created a huge hole which sunk both of them to this floor. Savanta was right ahead of him.

Lin was barely awake for the part where Dreacon explained how many Blessings Savanta had. Savanta had five.

And Lin counted everything that he had seen. Regeneration, Memory manipulation, Teleporting, and Silence making. The total was four. There was one more ability that he hadn't seen yet, which made him nervous.

Lin: So...is this where they throw all the trash??

Savanta didn't answer. He just looked pissed, ready to charge like a matador.

Lin: Well....I'm surprised they didn't throw you here already...

Lin was always cocky, and his one liners made him one of the most arrogant ones in the world. This obviously enraged Savanta, who started charging.

Lin: Maybe I have to charge your "Myaster" cause I'm doing his job of dumping you in the trash...don't you think??

Savanta: Shtop talking laik yuu myatter!! Yuu puny inshect compared tu meeee!!!

Savanta had lost his chain axe, and he was just trying to use his brute strength. And based on how he used his techniques, it was evident that Savanta didn't have complete control over all his Blessings, which was a "blessing in disguise" for Xi Fei Lin.

Lin used his swords to block the huge funky fists and redirected the blows. He had to think of a way to counter all the Blessings he had.

Memory manipulation was a dud, as it affected Savanta too. Teleportation, on the other hand, he did it very occasionally, and at random times, so he didn't have full control over it. It was the same case with Silence Making. But the regeneration was a problem. He always did it immediately after he was hurt, making it feel like he could absolutely control all of that Blessing. Kr, it was an automatic Blessing, that heals even if he didn't think about it. And that was a problem.

Lin: Man, I need to counter all of that...and also..

..the fifth unknown Blessing. It was mystery already. But then Lin thought of an idea.

Lin jumped around and finally found a broken wooden chair. He broke the legs out of it, and threw it in the air above Savanta. The monster turned up , expecting an attack, but instead, Lin charged from right ahead and stabbed his arm.

Savanta groaned in pain as he looked down at the warrior in blue armour. Lin was now guaranteed that this monster did feel pain, despite how quickly he heals. He pulled the swords out and before Savanta could catch him with his other arm, Lin used the monsters bulged chest as a foothold and grabbed the legs of the chair above him. He then stabbed it again into his skin, but left a part of it, to stick out.

Savanta screamed again. Lin landed on the ground. Savanta reached his other arm to remove the wood, but Lin jumped and struck that palm with the other chair legs, and made sure it stuck out. As Savanta screamed once more, Lin gave out a sadistic smile.

Lin: So...I was right...hehe

Savanta was bleeding out, but the wounds weren't repairing. He had noticed this when he had attacked Savanta earlier with his sword and hit his eyes. It didn't heal until he removed the blade. So, if there was some foreign material stuck in his body, he won't heal. And if he somehow made shre that he doesn't use his palms, then Savanta would not be able to stop him from killing him. Atleast, in theory.

Lin: I got you covered...monster!!
