The leaves rustled. It might've been due to the air, but something was off about the way it did. Suddenly they felt a cold breeze go through them, it being an eerie experience. Although it was cold, they were still at a campfire. Suddenly, the fire went out, without them doing anything.
Lin had extended his arm to cover it up with mud, to conceal their location from nearby lurking enemies. Specifically the Samurai. But before he could do it, the wood went dark, leaving behind a trail of smoke.
Lin: You guys, didn't do it, did you..?
All three of them, shook their heads to imply a no, as an answer to Xi Fei Lin's question. Then they heard the leaves rustling again.
Slowly all of them turned towards the sound. It was to the right of where Max was seated, as they all looked at the side. The street was empty but still dark. Moonlight lit the place quite efficiently, basking the pebbles in a faint white light.
In the middle of the street was a Cyclops monster, just hovering in the air, facing the group.
Max immediately got terrified. He was afraid that it was the same one he had defeated, just a few minutes back. If this ghostly thing had no death, then there was no way he could defeat it. But since the ghost didn't move, he looked at Lin.
Max: I think we should leave slowly. That Cyclops thing is a mess to handle.
Chuck: You can still do the same thing you did back then right?
Max: It takes a lot of power, and I honestly don't know if it even works on this monster.
Melissa nodded to Lin and they both slowly got on their knees. Max and Chuck followed suit. They slowly moved towards Chuck's house, which was a few meters away. Max, wished that the Cyclops wasn't capable of becoming intangible and enter the house.
As they slowly backed away, they huddled together as the same group. All four of them had their eye on the unmoving monster. As they kept crawling, Melissa looked back to see the distance they had to cover to reach the door. And she got terrified as a shadow loomed in her face.
She slowly tapped on Lin's and Max's shoulder, both of whom were fixated on the Cyclops ahead.
Lin: What is it..?
Lin whispered as slowly as he can. Melissa answered with a whisper too.
Melissa: I think you guys need to see what's behind us.
Max and Lin both turned their heads in sync to see, what it was that bothered Melissa. As soon as they turned they were shocked. A short scream came out of Chuck, who barely kept it inside. But Max, who was more terrified, let out a scream. There was another one of those Cyclops, hovering right above them.
The new monster immediately went for acstrike at them, with Lin barely helping Melissa. He pulled her back, just at the very last second and Max back flipped a meter away, carrying Chuck in his arms. Lin and Max immediately turned to check on the other Cyclops. The one on the street was flying at an incredible speed rushing towards them. Max's scream might have alerted the beasts.
Lin: It's all your fault, Maximus!!
Max: How is everything, my fault? And why do you keep using my full name?
.....
Lin: Let's split up!!
Lin had an idea. To run, while splitting up. It hurt Max's feelings but they weren't friends anyway. They were about to go on their separate ways too.
Lin: Maximus, you can fight, right? You are with me. We are taking both of them down.
Max was shocked that Lin asked his help. But he was terrified of those beings. The only reason he could stop the first one was due to pure instincts to save Chuck.
Lin: Melissa, take Chump and hide until we finish them off.
Melissa grabbed Chuck with her hands and pulled him. They both started running. But Chuck turned back to say something.
Chuck: My name is Chuck!!!
He screamed on top of his lungs. Chuck was more concerned about Lin's annoying way of never calling him by his right name.
Lin: I don't care...
Lin said that in a low tone, barely audible to even Max, who was near him. Melissa and Chuck were running to the other side, but suddenly they also felt the cold breeze again. And a third Cyclops monster appeared in front the escaping duo. They both had to break their speed and slid ahead. They immediately turned and started running to the other side. Both Lin and Max noticed this, but before they could do anything, the two monsters right in front of them attacked. Lin blocked the huge arm with his blade, while Max dodged the monster using his eyes.
Max: Shit...there is another one.
Lin: Ya, you are wrong...look again.
Max dodged another attack and then turned to see the fourth and fifth Cyclops at the edge of the town rushing towards them.
Max: Damn it..!!
As Max kept dodging, he heard the clashes of Lin's blade and the Cyclops boney palms. He also counted to upto ten Cyclops all around them, in different distances. There could have been more too. Max was annoyed. He could barely keep up with one of them.
Lin: What the hell is their deal..? Hey you! How did you defeat one of them last time??
Max: I used heat. I think they can't survive against heat!
Max blurted out his knowledge while dodging three of them at the same time. He then jumped high and punched one of them with his left arm, cracking the skull. That monster flew back into the air, giving out a screeching sound.
Lin: Heat huh..?
Lin used his Kukris blade to scratch the pebble stone to create sparks of flame and over heating his blade. The sword had turned into a light red colour, with the stored heat.
Lin: Good thing I'm aware of a technique that heats stuff.
Lin used the power he had over his sword and tried thrusting it on to the Cyclops in front of him but nothing happened. It then punched him in the stomach making him fly towards Max and ultimately crashing into him.
Max and Lin flew and fell to the side and then got up, both injured.
Max: Ouchh. Why would you do that..?
Lin: It was cause of you, dumbass. Your heating plan didn't work!!
Max: But...
Then Max started thinking. If the ghosts were not afraid of heat, then how did he defeat them? But he also realized something. Someone or something put out the fire with a cold breeze. The Cyclops were capable of generating high speed winds, as Max had observed while fighting them. So they must've put it out. But if the heat didn't affect them, why would they? Was it just for the theatrics?
Then Max found it. He realized it.
Max: I think I got it. They aren't afraid of heat. They don't like the light!!
Max created a star, which was very bright! And that was the one that took out the Cyclops before. He was wrong about the heat too.
Lin: What..?
Max: Can you help me? I can deal with all of them, if you bring all of them towards me.
Lin wanted to argue, but he just nodded as Max had gotten up and had started running. He screamed at all the ghosts as they all started chasing him.
Lin also shouted at them bringing their sight onto him. He also ran behind Max and saw their destination. Max was running crazily behind Melissa and Chuck. They both had fallen down, with three Cyclops about to devour them. They were struggling to run away, and in a moment, Chuck barely moved, making Melissa hug him to protect him. It was a moment stuck in despair.
But Max and Lin were inhumanely fast. They caught up in no time, with eleven Cyclops all around him.
Max: Everybody close your eyes!!!!
Max shouted at the top of his lungs. Melissa heard it and immediately shut her eyes. Lin slid down closing his eyes in the process. Chuck was already doing the order that Max had given.
Max raised his palm above him, his arm black with darkness and stars. There was a special kind of star that explodes in a massive beam of light. Called a Supernova.
Max: Supernova: Blinding lights!!
He announced his move name, as his arm brought forth a new star and it exploded right above him, emitting an abundance of light. Max also shut his eyes, while all the Cyclops monsters, disintegrated the moment the light hit them. And in an instant all of them were gone.
