Shane noticed the confused look on Evie's face, her furrowed brows signaling her lack of understanding. "Ezra sometimes just goes quiet," he explained, "doesn't talk, doesn't engage, and you might think you did something wrong, but that isn't the case at all. It's just how he processes things. He has a lot on his mind and needs to clear it out. He'll come around eventually."
Evie rolled her eyes. "I really don't care," she thought aloud.
"I see," Shane replied, a hint of amusement tugging at his lips.
"Does he think he's the only one facing challenges?" Evie shot back, still annoyed by Ezra's brutal rejection and the cutting words he had thrown her way. She clenched her fists, fed up with this new behavior.
Shane chuckled, closing the distance between them. "I know exactly how to bring Ezra back to his senses," he said confidently.
Evie hissed, "Like I care—" but before she could finish, Shane cupped her cheeks, startling her. Her eyes widened in surprise.
