Chapter 53 - Moments (Bonus Chapter)

Waking up in a sweat, Sunny tried to sit up only to be held down. Looking over, he saw Nephis's arm holding him down on her left side while Cassie was held down on her right side. He tried to slip from under it, but a tight feeling came in his chest — no, it wasn't his heart, but rather he was being held there by the now-awake Nephis.

"And where do you think you're going?"

"Uh… I don't know…"

She glanced down at him before pulling him back up onto her left side and closing her eyes once more.

"Then just stay here. There's no rush."

Weird… this whole situation was weird. Why was she acting like this? Was something up or what? Well, his head was hurting from whatever happened last night — he didn't remember much. Closing his eyes, he decided to take her advice and stay there.

Some minutes later, he felt a shuffle. He couldn't exactly fall asleep. He was about to say something until Nephis started poking him. On a whim, he decided to pretend to stay asleep — and he wasn't sure if that was the right choice now when he heard Cassie's voice ring out.

"Gooood morninggg!"

With a yawn, she stretched her limbs up, not being bounded by Nephis. She tried to see if Nephis was next to her, but suddenly Nephis wrapped herself around him like a koala on a branch and rolled before Cassie's hand could touch them. He could hear Cassie standing up and walking over to them — most likely from the sound of them rolling. But as soon as she got close, Nephis rolled again.

"Gods, you're such a child sometimes!"

Rushing over, she attempted to grab Nephis only for Nephis to open up her arms and grab her instead. Now, with Sunny and Cassie pressed against each other in Nephis's arms, she rolled again.

Wait a second…

"WE'RE ON A HILL! STOP! STOP!"

But of course, she didn't. Reaching the edge, she rolled off the cliff, picking up speed the longer it went on until they were going so fast it would have looked like a blur. By the time they got to the ground and Nephis released them, Sunny rushed over to the shrubs and threw up in them, huffing out words between barfs.

"What—! Ugrhhh! The hell—! Barghh! Did you do that fo—! Barghh!"

Cassie was also trying to stand up but kept falling down due to how much her brain was knocked around during the ride down.

Holding her head with a pained expression on her face and looking up at the sky, Nephis spoke.

"I don't know… I just wanted to."

She let out a pained smile — but a smile nonetheless.

"So get used to it. If it's my will, who dares to stop me."

"That—! Barghh! Doesn't apply he—! Braghh!"

"Pffft! Hahaha!"

That caused both of them to stop. Looking back from the bushes and Cassie on all fours, they stopped midway and turned in her direction.

Did she just… laugh?

Now both of them knew.

Something was wrong.

"Why are you two looking at me like that?"

Standing up, she stretched her limbs, brushing the hair that was now at her shoulders out of the way.

"I thought we all agreed to have days like yesterday even after we escape this realm. Does that mean they have to stop while we're staying in it?"

Sunny glared at her before standing up from being hunched over.

"I mean, you're right… but still! That was your way of showing it?!"

Cassie finally stood up and walked over to Nephis, punching her in the gut — only for Nephis to summon her armor before it could land.

"Fuck! God damnit!"

Multiple curses came out of the blonde girl's mouth — ones that didn't suit her appearance and would never have been heard from her before coming to this realm.

"Pfft! Hahaha!"

Sunny pointed at Cassie and laughed despite still trembling from what had happened moments before.

"Serves you right!"

Well, in the end, it's okay to enjoy their stay here, no matter what horrors await, right?

Looking back on it, I just wish I knew this would be the last moment of happiness for a long while before the three of them were together again.
