Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Eri Kisaki

"Aniki, is that kid really reliable?" Vodka, sitting at the bar, couldn't help but turn his head to look at Gin:

"Wouldn't it be troublesome if he failed and the rat hid? Why don't I just go and kill him?"

"No need for extra actions, Vodka." Gin said, setting down his translucent glass with only an ice ball left.

He raised his head slightly. A rare, chilling smile appeared on his stern face:

"I actually have a bit of expectation for him now."

"Huh?" Vodka was somewhat puzzled.

The Organization was actually a rather large organization; otherwise, so many agency moles wouldn't have been able to infiltrate and lurk within it.

However, compared to the numerous grassroots members, there were simply too few elites who could obtain codenames.

In Gin's eyes, even some of the codenamed members were incompetent waste. Therefore, discovering new talents was something Gin had always been doing—among the recent member lists he saw, Hayashi Yoshiki's file was the one that interested Gin the most.

Firstly, his excellent appearance might come in handy at any time, as the Organization's modus operandi has always been to stop at nothing.

However, what Gin valued more was the fact that the other party had written two best-selling mystery novels. This was because, in this world, a detective is a profession with very high social status.

Perhaps influenced by the famous mystery novelist Yusaku Kudo, people generally believed that a mystery novelist who could write brilliant cases should also be a good detective.

And recently, "The Kindaichi Case Files: The Opera House Murder Case" and "The Kindaichi Case Files: The Village of the Exotics Murder Case" have been highly recommended best-sellers in bookstores, especially the latter, which has garnered significant discussion and praise.

Gin became interested for this reason, as detective-type talents were not common in the Organization.

After some explanation, Vodka understood this point.

"As expected of Aniki, but that kid probably won't try to run, right?"

"He only has one day, and he's under the Organization's watchful eye. Anyone with a brain wouldn't think of running." At this point, Gin lowered his eyes and sneered,

"But only after he actually makes his move tomorrow night will he truly have no thought of running."

"Heh heh, so Aniki arranged to promote his books to make him more famous." Gin did not respond.

People with more prominent public identities tend to cherish their reputations more.

Just wait for Hayashi Yoshiki to kill someone tomorrow night.

With leverage held by the Organization, this unofficial member won't dare to have second thoughts—unless he wants to fall from a popular mystery novelist to a despised murderer.

Coercion and inducement, this has always been the Organization's usual method.

Otherwise, would a geriatric waste like Pisco, whose public identity was a big figure in the financial world, truly be willing to do dirty work for the Organization? It was simply out of fear of the Organization's terror and having leverage held over him.

It was already a little past ten when he returned to the apartment.

Hayashi Yoshiki returned to his rented room, first turned on the living room light, then sat on the sofa.

He had already realized Gin's purpose the moment he heard him ordering a killing, and he also wondered if the contract signed today was subtly pushed by the Organization... but none of that mattered.

He was just thinking about what to do next.

The Organization's threat level was very high, and with his identity already tainted black, he currently had no capital to directly confront the Organization.

Unless he could immediately get photos and names of all Organization members.

However, going all the way down this dark path was also unrealistic.

Although the original work hadn't ended before he transmigrated, the basic logic that evil cannot triumph over good was undeniable. Hayashi Yoshiki knew very well that sticking with the Organization would only leave him with two options: death or jail.

In that case, he definitely needed to arrange a "Red Side" identity for himself.

It wasn't difficult to do this.

He just needed to use the Death Note to control a high-ranking Red Side official and have his file entered into the list of undercover agents. If he felt it wasn't secure enough, he could even control more people to cooperate.

"...Let's proceed with a new round of tests."

Clink!

With the soft click of a lighter, Hayashi Yoshiki placed the torn Death Note page into an ashtray and burned it.

The flickering flame reflected in his dark eyes.

Buzz~~buzz~~~!

His flip phone in his pocket vibrated again. Hayashi Yoshiki opened it and saw a message from Eri Kisaki.

Eri Kisaki: "Are you back yet, Yoshiki?"

Hayashi Yoshiki: "Ah, yes, I am."

Eri Kisaki: "Then come over now."

Hayashi Yoshiki: "Okay, please wait for me a moment."

After dumping the ashes from the ashtray, Hayashi Yoshiki walked to the entryway, changed his shoes, and headed to the opposite door in the apartment hallway.

The door was half-open, so he pushed it open and entered directly.

"Excuse me."

"Where did you go out just now?"

Eri Kisaki's soft voice came. Hayashi Yoshiki looked up and saw that the beautiful woman had clearly just finished bathing; her loose hair was still wet and slightly steamy.

It must be said, she was truly a very charming woman.

Anyone who saw her would surely think so.

Her full and tall figure was completely undisguised by her relaxed home attire, and her demeanor was intellectual. At this moment, her charming brown long hair was spread out, her face exquisite and elegant, and she seemed more amiable without some of her work-related competence.

She looked as if she had just entered her thirties.

She exuded the unique mature charm of a married woman.

"I was bored, so I just went out for a little walk," Hayashi Yoshiki smiled. "You worked hard today too, Auntie Eri."

"Indeed, that's why I ordered quite a rich supper tonight," Eri Kisaki also smiled as she walked to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. "Would you like a little beer? Consider it a celebration for you."

"Sure."

Hayashi Yoshiki had no objections.

Currently, he and Eri Kisaki lived in opposing apartments. Because Eri Kisaki's lawyer work often required late overtime, sharing late-night meals had become common.

However, they usually didn't drink alcohol.

It was clear that she was genuinely happy for Hayashi Yoshiki.
