Chapter 9 - Seventh Upgrade

After waking up from his nap and looking at the time, "4:37 PM, damn," muttered Gray while getting up. Seriously, what is wrong with me...I've been sleeping a lot lately, but I can't blame myself for it. I started working out, have been roaming around, and even got some construction work done.

Gray started making his way down just in case something got in and he didn't wake up. After noticing both chairs and it being dark as hell, he decided to go back up and maybe finish that pizza in his inventory.

After pulling it out, he noticed that it was still hot. "Huh, so time doesn't pass inside the inventory, yeah, no wonder I only got 1 slot and I have to buy more." After eating a few more bites, he decided to buy a water bottle since he didn't wanna risk getting anything if he drank from the tap.

"Man, I really miss my computer. Maybe I could get a handheld console? A Gameboy would be nice, getting a cartridge seems easier than maybe some servers still running for like steam or anything like that." Gray said while munching on his holy food.

After a few more minutes of eating, he finally opened the HUD, looking at his gold and started making plans for the next upgrades or different buys.

"Damn, I'm close to getting that gun, but it is getting late, and there is no point in getting that now if I can just save for the next upgrade. I'm already a third of the way there anyway, not like I'm in danger at the moment." He finally opened the shop to start looking for ways to kill his boredom.

"Let's see, let me look for the one I had when I was a kid."

{Game Boy Advance SP} (450 Gold)

{Donkey Kong Cartridge} (50 Gold)

I'm definitely buying one of those. After the upgrades, of course, it's for moral support, right? Yeah, for sure getting one.

Gray then pulled his fire axe into his inventory and sat on the floor with his notebook in hand, making use of the sunlight while he could, noting down about the Game Boy as if he would forget about it later on.

"Right then, 4 hours roaming and 4 hours asleep, leaves me with 15 hours give or take for the next upgrade, it's about to be 5 PM so around 8 AM of the next day and I'll be making almost double my current hourly rate, oh yeah getting this upgrade and after maybe the multiplier, then I can probably start by buying a gun," Gray muttered while making annotations on his notebook.

Eventually, a few hours passed, and he went to bed after peeking out the window, checking for any kind of movement.

Waking up with the sunlight hitting his face, Gray sat upright after rubbing his eyes a few times. He quickly opened the HUD, looking at his gold.

Gray got up and started doing his morning routine. After being done, he was seen sitting in the living room. The only problem was that the only light he was getting was from both doors, so it was dark inside. After sitting on the couch for a few more minutes, he finally saw his gold go up to 378.

"One more hour and I can buy the multiplier, I'd have 633 Gold, the upgrade is 550, so that means I can spend 83 gold and still be okay..." Gray started looking at his options and opted for another steak, but this time with some white rice.

After a while, Gray could be seen sitting at the table, eating his steak with a smile while also taking spoonfuls of rice. "A Bowl full of white rice is 3 Gold? I mean, I am making some good change now, so it doesn't matter."

6 Hours later, Gray could be seen with a goofy smile and a handgun in his hand, "Damn, this is sick. So far, I have not seen any kind of safety on it, but I'll figure it out." He finally managed to eject the magazine and was getting more excited by the minute.

"I will probably need more ammo, and I have some gold left. Maybe I can afford some," Gray said while opening the HUD and looking at his 194 gold.

Pistol Ammo (9mm – Glock 19, etc.)

{Single round} – (2 Gold)

{Box of 50} (80 Gold)

{Standard magazine (15 rounds)} (35 Gold)

{Extended magazine (30 rounds)} (70 Gold)

Rifle Ammo (.223 / 5.56 – AR-15, etc.)

{Single round} (4 Gold)

{Box of 50} (160 Gold)

{Standard mag (30 rounds)} (130 Gold)

{Drum mag (60 rounds)} (250 Gold)

Alright, I'm getting 2 standard magazines and a box of 50 for now. heh, looking over at that word "mag" made me remember Charlie when he clowned that other guy..

After getting ready, Gray could be seen walking on the highway,"'Murica! Fuck Yeah!♫" Gray could be seen singing."That is gonna be stuck in my head for a bit isn't it?"He started looking over his map and exploring a few more areas. After about 35 minutes of walking around, he noticed a lone zombie about 100 feet away from him, getting closer. Gray took the gun out of the inventory and placed the axe inside, while at the same time getting ready to pull it out in case he failed to shoot or missed and the zombie got too close.

"Alright, I've never done this, but I played enough video games to kind of know how they work, just hold it with both hands, aim and shoot, that easy, let's get this show on the road!" Gray said that while getting the zombie's attention, once he was about 50 feet away, the zombie turned towards him and started power walking. Huh, he's the first one that does that, maybe he's fresher compared to the other ones I've faced? Oh well, as long as they don't start running won't be a problem for me.

Keeping the gun as steady as he could, Gray took the first shot, and surprisingly, it hit the zombie in the chest. "Holy fuck, that's loud, better wrap this up and start running towards the house." As he aimed again, the zombie could be seen getting closer and closer. Once he was 15 feet away, another shot rang out in the neighbourhood. This time it was a clear headshot. After confirming that the zombie was dead, Gray took off running in the direction of his house without a care in the world.

"Fuck.Fuck.Fuck.Fuck." Gray kept muttering the same thing while hoping no horde heard it. I didn't think it was going to be that loud fuck. I guess silencers are going to be a must. He kept running until eventually he spotted the familiar picture of boarded-up windows. Once he got inside and locked both doors, he ran upstairs to check if any zombies showed up.

"Thankfully, I shot far from the house, but holy hell, shooting feels great! No wonder people used to own a bunch of different guns in my past life." Gray said in between breaths as he was sweating and breathing hard from the running he just did.

Finally, after about 30 minutes, he lay down on the bed, having not seen anything out the window, thinking it over. Gray finally decided to upgrade the system's integrated map; the threat detection was going to come in handy.
