Chapter 16 - Presenting His Evidence

Meanwhile, Cass hadn't been able to sleep.

He had been pacing circles around his dorm room, his thoughts a storm of negativity. What if Damien failed? What if he didn't get Kai to confess? What if everything came crashing down anyway? Every possibility spun in his head like knives, cutting deeper with each turn.

He was halfway through another spiral of what-ifs when a sharp knock at his door interrupted him.

Cass froze. Then his heart leapt. Joy surged through him so violently he actually squealed, rushing to the door. Never in his life had he imagined a knock could make him this happy.

He flung it open—

Damien was leaning casually against the doorframe, cool as ever. His crimson eyes flickered in the dim light, unreadable, divine.

But Cass didn't even have the time—or the will—to admire this man's dangerous beauty. The words tumbled out of him immediately, urgent and raw.

"How did it go? Did you do it?"
